I always thought there should be a way of scooping out the wood and using it instead of just turning 90% of the block into shavings.
Now I know you can :)

Very nice! Was the finish tung oil?
I rough turned a spalted maple blank today that finished out at 11" OD and because I don't have a coring system, most of the blank ended up on the floor. Thanks for sharing and happy New Year!

Thank you very much Stuart!! The finish I used is a Danish Oil so I’m sure it has a lot of tung oil in the blend. Happy new year!!

Wow! That’s soooo cool! I’ve had a lathe for a couple years now and I always feel guilty when I plow through a ton of wood to make a bowl.....what’s the name of that device that cuts the bowls out of that block? Well done.

Snyggt Elias. Max3 systemet funkar bra på torkat virke?

Tack Erik!! Det funkar ok men jag tog det väldigt långsamt och i det sista snittet så hängde jag nästan på handtaget för att hålla den stabil.
      Gott nytt år!!

seems a shame to start from the middle. Specially since this is a dry blank. Check out the instructions from Bowlsaver website for a (IMHO) for a much better set of coring instructions starting from the outside, then moving towards the middle. If you do, no need to re-mount on a jam chuck but instead use the recess (only needed to be cut once) on each smaller bowl. Has worked well for me.
