Another great vid John!! Thanks for sharing the adventures. Tell Andrew he's in good company. I missed a long-beard Saturday morning here in Portage County, Ohio...
John, would you consider doing a video just on equipment for a spring turkey hunt? I've never hunted spring turkey (I'm in AZ). I look at the many calls available and wonder where to start - new, used, custom, then all of the different kinds. Also, what to look for in good decoys. I'm interested in giving spring turkey a try, but don't want to waste money either buying something too cheap (sometimes, it's worth paying more for better) or spending too much when something used or more basic would be perfectly suitable. Thanks for all of your excellent videos!
I am in NW Lycoming County and we see very few turkeys any longer here. Lots of fishers...glad to see you guys getting action. You shot over and behind him
I feel your pain. I had 2 Toms come in to 40 yards this morning in 4d and ended up blowing a sapling in half. Totally agree though that things are looking way better than last season. Good luck fellas..
I've killed 3 turkeys in my 40 years of hunting. The first was in 1986. I shot it with my brand new .270 during deer season (it was legal back then). I really didn't know any better. I aimed center mass and squeezed off. Had half a breast and one leg to eat outta that 8 pound jake. The second one was a 12 pound hen in the fall. Shot her in the belly with my .50 cal muzzleloader in early muzzleloader season. The third was in the early '90's after deer season when turkey came back in. The Ole' 12 gauge popped that 16 pound gobbler. Since the season for turkey has changed to where I can't shoot ANYTIME during deer seasons, I haven't had any chance.
I'm thinking the "spring thunder" got the best of Andrew lol... It happens though.. I was about 16 and so excited to get to my spot I forgot to load my gun...Well low and behold after just a couple yelps from my Lynch's 101 a big old Tom came running in and all was perfect except .... Well you figured it out I'm sure lol...
Im over in 4d and ive been seeing gobblers for the past 2 weeks and didnt hear 1 gobble this morning. Called in a hen and saw 2 doe but thats it. Took the bow this morning because ive been dieing to stick one. Great video and keep your head up Andrew. Keep trying and it'll happen.
Had activity today. Two Toms made a fool out of me and my dad. First Bastard was hung up on a hen and wouldn't come to the decoys and then snuck up behind me with a hen when I dozed off and I didnt even hear em. Hopefully ill have better luck soon
Andrew did you pattern your gun before season.? You would be surprised by how many people i take out turkey hunting don't do this. That bird was well within range. Not all guns shoot exactly where the bead points. The center of the pattern can easly be a foot right /left at 40 yards. We All know John is a good hunter and i am sure he patterns his shot gun before season. If you heard birds in a area and they stop gobbling there still there and can be still called and killed. Good turkey hunters can get the birds that don't gobble if you know about where they are. Keep at it Andrew you'll get one. Good luck buddy.

Andrew may want to switch to a 20 ga to stop the flinching .

I think that rear sight might be the problem.
