Be sure to go back and watch part 1! Guess the score in the comments!
That would be fun to hunt with u guys sometime. I watch your videos all the time.
Nice sheds.
Is it in the 160-170 score range?
Is it in the 160-170 score range?
pushing 150.But who cares.This is Pennsylvania,not Iowa
I think you should make a video and post it regardless if you find one or fifteen sheds . It's about the adventure and the person taking you along for it as much if not more then the finding part... I miss the old days of froggin catching snappers trappin and then of course the rattlesnake and deer hunting videos ice the cake 😀 congrats on some great finds john!!!
John, love your enthusiasm and excitement! As a fellow Pa hunter I love your content and the way you explain everything you do! Your videos are the best on RUclips! I always look forward to watching your new videos.
Thank you!
Ran into Ron at a grocery store yesterday. Great guy to talk to. Was a pleasure getting to meet him. When you see him tell him Frank from the store says hi. That buck is gonna be a bruiser if he’s there next year. Keep up the great work with the videos. My family and I love when you guys release them. Thank you and good luck in all you guys do.
That's awesome you got to meet Ron! Ya knever know where ya might run into him.
Nice find. I understand how your brother could walk right by it and not see it. I built a shed several years ago, was using a speed clamp to hold some parts in place as I built it. I lost a pad off the clamp, was pretty sure it was around that shed. I searched and searched but couldn't find it. Walked out there a few days ago and there was that pad laying in plain sight!
Unbelievable! Just goes to show that they can and do shed anywhere! Hope one of you guys gets a shot at him this fall!
We are woodlot owners as well and what you've described about selective harvest is exactly what we see in the 2nd -5th years of new growth. We cut a 100 acres of old beautiful Spruce out of a 500 acre piece that never had deer in at all. Cripes they are like rabbits in there now and the monsters that have moved in. WOW - we have never seen such big deer as we've seen the last 2 years. Absolute giants.
We have a lot of spruce too. Almost 40 acres. We might cut them soon. They provide little cover now that they are sparsing out and getting mature.
If your dad hit the buck this past year. hope it dosent hinder the growth of his rack next year with a injury. Great explanation of the sheds you found so far. good info and very enjoyable to watch. Thanks for sharing
Hope that it doesn't either. I'm hopeful because the deer held them on for a long time so hopefully he's not hurt at all.
I think the awesome part of this story is that the three of you all had a part in this deers story
Very true! I just hope somone sees him next year. I just want to see how big he gets.
"I can almost smell deer" oddly enough I know what you mean. It's indescribable, but I know what you mean. Great finds so far this season too. I'm at one so far but mostly every buck I see is still packing.
Thanks!
That buck is going to be an absolute giant next year!!!! Awesome find
That’s awesome congrats bud, I found some of my biggest in pa this year to, about the same size as that one. But I found 2 about that big and there two diff deer and couldn’t find the match sets. But I’ll be out looking again soon might wait till march liky you said
I have found 47 so far,8 matched sets. And some of them were well over half a mile from each other.I have found them up to 3/4 mile from each other,on different mountains🤷🏻
@@dswish1730 oh wow that’s interesting. I only found one match set little 4 point and they were together
always love the videos. so informative. i found your site when I was trying to figure out the morels and then i see you do everything else i do in the woods. keep it up. very informative. hopefully someone in the family gets a crack at that bruiser.
Thanks! Wont be long until morels come out!
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors2 Can't wait!
well I have the same sensations when I go to the flee market hehe . no forest in my area ..
Me and the dog found a match set of a 10pt very similar to those in one of my food plots the first week of January this year. The buck was a huge deer I saw once in daylight during the rut. I'm guessing it's a 140in deer. The deer I have was easily 21in inside maybe 22 and carry alittle bit more mass. They will both be some big ole boy's next season.
That is definitely the sheds of the one your dad shot, 100^
LEATHERWOOD and KEO sure put a great show on picking up monster sheds!! So many similarities in regards to trail closeness and conifers
Leo lucked out on hlb sheds. Hlb was really hyped up and isn’t nearly as big as these sheds.
Awesome set! Hoping to see a video no matter how many you find!
Same deer as trail camera and what a find!! Congratulations! Beautiful buck!
Thanks!
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors2 you’re very welcome hope u guys get a chance at him!
Pretty color, white upper, chocolate brown lower.
Awesome video, you should do a video on the mounts you guys have at camp and the stories behind them, I think it’d be interesting!
I did do a video somewhere on some of the bucks. Most of the bucks at camp now are all my brothers mounts. I have most of mine at home.
@@Leatherwoodoutdoors2 awesome I got to look for it
Thats an incredible set of sheds ! I love the story too 👍
Something you said that I agree with is you can't let other shed hunters influence you. It gets so tempting to start looking when you see dudes posting antlers in January/February, but if deep down you know it's too early, don't do it. Just be patient.
Congratulations on the huge set last year I found my biggest shed to date it was a 5 point shed main beam was 27 7/8” and shed total was 69 5/8” I was never able to find the other side
Thanks! That's a good one! Long beams!
Those big bucks usually drop end of jan / early feb in southwest PA.
Same Buck for sure. Congratulation
Very nice buck anywhere! Good mass, nice mains, love the points. The only thing holding it back from being a 150 is the Short G2s and a bit more spread. I think you are pretty much on with your spread number. So my guess is low 140,s. Also I think you are right to back off until mid March for your area. Winter is a stressful time for deer, we need to be mindful of that. Ever consider putting up some stands on the fringes of your legged area. Seems like it might pay off, especially for a late season hunt?
We do have one stand over looking the logged area. My dad used to hunt it before we put up the new deer shanties. The double ladder stand is still there and overlooks the area where the sheds were. But it just never seemed to produce. It seemed like most of the deer hung out near our foodplots on the opposite side of the property. I will set some trail cams in there next summer and see what's moving through.
Good plan. We are working on where to reposition some of our cams to. Hopefully your cams will show where to re position the stand to. This big guy must have a bedding area somewhere and if you are not currently getting many photos of him then he might just be using a thick crappy part of the logged area. probably not much daylight movement except in the rut. Looking forward to what you find out.
nice bladed g3
John I have to say that looks just like the buck your dad hit
Dreams can come true
You can measure the exact width of the spread using a little ingenuity. You have the antlers from the deer in the photo, you can measure the G2 or G3 tines and get the exact length of the tines, then by using your photo editing tools can apply that measurement scaled down to the antler in the photos and using that as a measuring stick you can get the measurement of the spread pretty darn accurately.
As far as waiting till March…To look for sheds we’ll that all depends on the location. We’re I live in north central part of the country the bucks loose there antlers by the end of December maybe the first week in January
This is true.
That’s a stud
Pretty cool! I was just thinking about going out and walking.. you talked me out of it lol.
If you're in an area with little to no shed hunting pressure. It's always best to wait. But if you think others might be in the area. Then sneaking in early might be what you got to do.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors2 no one is in here. I'll wait
It's all been cut too. Plenty of hemlock pockets south facing slopes and lots of black berry.
Thats a great buck, hopefully you or someone in your family will get another crack at it. Happy Hunting.
Thanks. I just hope to lay eyes on him at least once.
Those dwarf HLB!!!
145 is what my guess is for the 10 point. I would be more than happy to tag a buck like that
Oh that is FOR SURE, the same deer!
I never got tied up in antler scores. I just enjoy my hunts no matter how big they are. I’m not a chest pounder on big bucks I’m not bill jordan 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Great Videos John. Greetings from Nova Scotia. It's great that the big boy is still alive. In my camp if my dad had a crack and missed at a tank like that I would tell the boys (especially if I had an assassin like Ron) he is off limits so my dad could get him next year. We've done that at ours. This year we have a cam shot of an absolute giant brown racked 275-300lb -14pt of which we also saw later at 250yds away in some balsams. Yes I have proof. I've told the gang he's mine.
As landowners and shephards of our flock of studs we have to some privilege - right. It'll be great fun for pops next year if that guy hangs around. Get after Ronny! to lay off - lol. Godspeed John.
Great PA hunting tradition
140 seems about right ..can't be certain without knowing the true spread. I have a 145, 11 point on my wall .. passes the eye test.
Do More Morel Videos
I found a weird matching set today. The pedicles on both of the antlers are half shed and half smooth. Both sides are like that. You ever find any with pedicles like that? I can't figure it out.
I have in the past. If too much is detached from the skull it could hurt the deer next season but I've seen it and If part of it is smooth I'd say it would be ok.
He's been hiding at the camp where he can keep a eye on y'all , in other words he has patterned y'all !
Haha thats probably right
👍👍
Does the buck decide the general area he wants to drop his antlers and just hang around there until they drop?
I don't think so. Usually they drop around the same time each year. It just depends on what the food sources are at the time and whether there's any pressure from people.
High 130 s buck !
Could the split tine antler be from the big 10? Just from the year prior?
I'm guessing not. The antler shape is very different. I would also assume he'd have another split as well the next year as well but I'm hoping it's a different buck.
Its the same buck, in that picture he has the same blades tines, the right g2 kinda turns a little crooked at the top same mass same color its the same deer.
Yeah same deer for sure has the same bladed tine
147 3/8” is my guess
138
The big one I will guess 160 score
160s?
100% same buck on trail cam
