@@lorrie2878 What Minhaj said was not wrong. His main point was that they have lower MCAT scores than the MD schools. That is a fact. A good chunk of people end up in DO schools because they didn't do well enough on the MCAT to get in to MD schools. Stop trying to ignore the main point of what Minhaj said, which sorry, you can not dispute. Very few, if any DO go there as their first choice. They typically apply to MD schools too, but can not get in due to low grades or MCAT scores.

    1. It's very rare to fail Caribbean medical school, then get accepted to a US medical school (MD or DO).
    2. DO medical school is the *EXACT* same as MD medical school with the same entrance exams, prerequisites, and the same residency (medical training) after medical school. DO programs just tack on 200 hours of OMM/OMT, which is spinal manipulation techniques. Most DOs don't use OMM/OMT. The stigma has been DOs are less than MDs, when they're not. The stigma is slowly fading, but Hasan just reignited it. SMH.

I'm an MD working at a teaching hospital that mostly employs DO attendings and DO residents, while taking on DO medical students. If there's a war going on between allopathic and osteopathic physicians, I'm not seeing it. The other doctors take great care of their patients and are a pleasure to work with. The board exams that certify a physician in a particular specialty don't care if you're an MD or a DO; we all take the same ones. I like Hasan, and empathize with his story, but the training that DOs go through to heal the sick deserves better than this.

You can say anything ABOUT anything and it doesn’t have to be your actual opinion, or even be true. It’s just jokes. I don’t understand why you are so offended like you think Hasan REALLY doesnt respect DO’s. Why would he let this guy do this procedure if he didn’t actually respect him? It’s a joke. He thanks the DOs at the end and yes he is throwing shade at the fact that DO admission is easier than MD admission...but that's kind of true. The whole point is him trying to say that DOs are just as well trained and capable as the MDs and acknowledging that they are off brand and it's easier to become one. I don't see any misinformation. I think it depend on perspective. If you watch the video from this perspective you will see that he is praising DOs...like a backhanded compliment but nevertheless a compliment!

An "off brand" just means a product that was built off of the original and is slightly different. It doesn't refer to the quality of the product. An "off brand" just means it is less familiar than the popular brand and usually not the first pick.
I think the only part where he took the joke too far and insulted a large group of people was when he said that his friend failed the Caribbean twice and then became a DO doctor. Becoming a DO is not easier than entering a Caribbean med school, its about the same level or even harder in terms of competitiveness. He could have acknowledged that DOs get the same training as MDs, take the same tests, require higher board scores for the same residencies and eventually practice at the same hospitals.
BUT It's not his job to campaign for DOs or serve as an advocate for osteopathic medicine! IT'S JUST A JOKE.....and the punch line is that "the off brand doc saved the day and he loves these off brand doctors"

Cannot imagine how the doctor who successfully treated him feels after Hasan just turned the man's whole career into a joke. Also, there are plenty of MD and DO doctors who support each other, so this so called "war" is also part of the misinformation that Hasan adamantly generalized. Ignoring hard work, and making fun of any healthcare worker, then at the end simply saying "haha shout out to the DOs" is so problematic. It is already sad that people who do more and learn additional treatment techniques are stigmatized as "not good enough." I hope at least Hasan's child can show him how to respect all healthcare workers properly without saying one title is less than the other.
