Wanted to talk about your discord channel. I joined to kind of read how people react and I realized that the Advisors/Moderators are not that super friendly. Many of them give one sided opinion about themselves from personal experiences when there are many ways to approach someone’s question regarding Japan. I also live in Japan so I have some knowledge in certain topics that are mentioned from others but it would be rather more helpful if the advisors can “suggest” several options, instead of just only talk about their own personal choices. It’s just my opinion.
same here lol! ever since i got a nintendo switch, ive done a lot of research about nintendo and its history 😃 i was surprised once i got this video notification
Just checked the prices, it's $1200 per night, with the best room being $2600 per night. If you're well off I guess it'd be pretty amazing as an experience, but it's outside my price range personally. :(
@@onerandomguy4832 I mean just being able to go to Japan and enjoy all the good things there is enough to enjoy life and be happy. :D (Just arrived in Japan like 1 day ago myself, lol). This hotel is like some of the most exclusive hardcore "Nintendo experiences" possible and I'd assume it's mostly aimed at the Japanese audience who're more hardcore in it, or just the filthy rich who want a fancy hotel to spend money on (who might not care about the history as much).
This hotel has so much personality and history. I love how instead of ripping out everything and replacing things, they’ve blended old with new. This is such a great video.
I taught at an English school in Fushimi-Momoyama for a while when I lived in Nara. I could see Nintendo's current headquarters from the train once I knew where to look. I occasionally had people from Nintendo come in for lessons. I even met Shigeru Miyamoto once. I tried to do the tour but my friends and I got lost trying to find Fushimi-Momoyama castle and missed the last tour time. Oh, and the castle was closed too. lol I'll have to check this place out next time I'm in the area. I grew up on Nintendo and now my kids are doing the same.
I'm so glad you got an insider's look on the hotel before it even opens! I would definitely love to stay here one day when I get the chance to go to Japan! I actually did a marketing assignment about Nintendo when I was in high school for college credit. I remember that Nintendo did indeed start off with playing cards before going into video games, which surprised me when I first found out.
The only problem is that in Japan the people did not have a Nintendo. Japan got a unit called the "family computer". America and Europe got a different looking system rebadged as Nintendo
This is so cool! A few years ago, I was in Kyoto for business and I made it a point to walk to this landmark. I was curious what it looked like inside so this is very cool
You’re back with a bang! I’m a huge Nintendo fan and was really curious about how this hotel turned out, as it’s so intimately linked to the company’s heritage. Thanks for making this video!
Everything in these videos is perfect! The sound backgorund, the whole concept about each video! I don't know if I can love other channels more than this... Thank you Paolo!! 🙏🏻🔥
Such a cool experience! I had the chance to visit the building a few years back prior to the transformation into a hotel but I would love to stay here overnight one day!!!
Paolo your are amazing! I'm from Brazil and at this time, the unique chance to view this is only by your eyes! Thanks and have a good ideas to bring to us!
I am glad the building is being used again. It has been about 15 years since I was last at that building and it is mostly the same. Thank you for the update and tour.
Don't mind me asking these questions. 1) Do you consider Japan as a highly developed and advanced country ? 2) How would you personally rate Japan (from culture to technology, architecture, food, local products, scenery/landscape, standard of living/quality of life, etc.) on a scale level of 1 to 10 ? 3) What is your overall impression with the Japanese people ? 4) If you have 3 words or more to describe Japan, what would it be ?
Man, just when you think Paolo has covered it all he hits you with a Nintendo Hotel. What?! So cool!! Just imagine all the Nintendo talks that happened in those rooms..
I stayed in this neighborhood about five years ago and was impressed by this beautiful old building. The neighborhood used to be a redlight area, Gojo Rakuen, but that was many years ago.
It fascinating and beautiful, the ways that they've managed to combine the building's history and architecture together with the updated construction. Their preservation work is admirable.
The quality of your videos are out of this world! We can see how much effort you put into every detail. The editing is phenomenal and every part of your videos flow smoothly and come together nicely. I forget that there’s someone actually holding the camera because it looks as if the camera is floating by itself following you everywhere 😆 that’s how perfect the quality is. You need your own tv 📺 show. Edit: I hope Maiko and Wolfy are doing great!
Thank you for this, Paolo. It was a balst checking out what Nintendo's old headquarters were like from the inside, even now, as a hotel. Fantastic video as usual!
I’m glad I got to see inside. In 2015 I was on a walking tour around Kyoto and as we past that building a local man stopped us and told us of the buildings history. At the time the small Nintendo plaque was the only way to tell there was something special about the building.
Oh this episode was so cool!! I wish you had included photos of before and after of the properties but that's ok since I know that's a lot asking from them. THANK YOU Paolo for these videos!! Always appreciate the hard work ^-^
I love the vibe of the hotel and how they kept a lot of historic touches. The rooms are quite large for hotel rooms, kinda resemble suites, wonder how expensive they are. I love the Japanese style room the most!
That’s so cool! I actually stopped by there a couple of years back, but as Paolo said it was just an abandoned historic building at that point. The new HQ is also in the area, but they don’t do tours. (I asked.) This is also not far from Kyoto Brewing and a few other good local beer spots, for those of you who are into craft/local beer. 🍻
@@DoctorEbot ah, you’re right! Actually, I was thinking about Kyoto Beer Lab, which is JUST around the corner from the Marufukuro (Nintendo) Hotel. And which I also visited last time I was there. Both are great, anyway. I actually video blogged the experience, if you’re interested. Anyway, thanks for the correction! 🍻
I visited this building during my 2019 trip to japan. It wasn't open of course, but the outsides were cool, and it was great to see a piece of Nintendo history while there! I knew Nintendo still owned the building and doing something with it, and now I know what they were doing!
It’s beautifully done, nice blend of history and modern, I wonder if Nintendo had any input into the design themselves or helped with any of the historical pieces. But bit odd seeing Sony tvs in Nintendo’s HQ haha
Looks like a fantastic place. I like how they kept it to the real origins of the Nintendo company rather than trying to cash in on the modern popularity of its video game line.
Wow, it would be cool to stay at a place where a beloved company once was! Also, it’s crazy to think that a place was abandoned for over half of a century before turning it into something else!
Pretty cool. Kind of amazed the hotel didn't send someone with you to explain more of the history of each building and what is original and what is new.
I've been watching you for a while and all I got to say is that you are so amazing. The way you explain everything makes japan feel so at home and I'm not even from there. Thank you so much for sharing Japanese culture. I hope to visit soon all cause of you. :]
This comment is going to be long, but this video is AMAZING!!! It couldn't be more epic. It's great to see the old Nintendo building being made into a hotel yet keeping loads of historical references and architecture in place. Not many people know Nintendo was founded almost 133 years ago, and that their history went from playing cards to toys to video games. During the 60's they went through some troubled times financially and pursued some pretty...interesting business ventures, lets just say. But this is so cool, from the video alone I can feel the aura of the location. Your "Day in a Life" series is my favourite videos, but this is probably second. Looking forward to seeing what your return trip to this place looks like!
Thanks for this video. I had always wanted to see this, but I think they could have kept some more old cards or games or company history or pictures throughout, it would have made this a real experience, like staying in a museum. It would have been so much more... May be there are not done yet.
Also yes, they did cards and toys before moving into video games. Hiroshi Yamauchi was the previous President from 1949-2002, and the third President overall. Tatsumi Kimishima was the 5th President, albeit his promotion was due to the death of the previous one. The balcony is glorious. I love the velvet furniture matching the carpet. Feels very intentionally dated. A vibe!
