- Here's an easy tutorial on how to make your own rocks using UltraCal 30. This was one of my Christmas presents... a Happy Dotting Company #4 Mold and a bag of ULTRACAL 30! Thanks Mom! I watched several videos but still had so many questions. Let me show you what I learned to create a pretty good rock to paint my Mandalas on. It's so hard to find rocks around here so this is the perfect solution. Watch until the very end to see how long to leave it dry! I may upload future videos as I learn more tips and tricks about creating your own rocks. Join me next week as we paint our creation! Rock on Everyone!

Well done.
Thank you 😊 I love these stones ♥️
Thank you JaDel! The music was funny. You rock looks good. And the best part, how long to let it dry.
Thank you! I’m so very glad you liked it. It took me a hot minute for the light bulb to go off on equating drying to weight.. but it’s pretty reliable. So glad you watched Angel ♥️
Thumbs up ! Great explanation of usage and timings .. in the U.k so cant get this. There is similar but sooo impatient I am lol ! Thank you . Kay x
I’m impatient too.. to a fault 😂😂😂 did you see my video on cement all? Maybe you can get that?

@@JaDeLRocks Yes I use a white cement powder .. which is quite good but it still takes 24hrs to set and two or three days to dry .. lol .. its a time thing but no spring chicken any more ! xx
I totally get it!
Love your videos I've learned a lot I live in South Texas and it's been about 10 days since I casted my first stone I still don't have a consecutive weight. Does that mean they're still not dry?
Lol… nope. It probably just means your pouring isn’t consistent. Neither is mine. I live in Arkansas so I know about humidity and I bet you have it even worse being by the Gulf.. you lucky girl! I just love Southern Texas♥️♥️♥️ I’d say give your stones an extra day than mine. Maybe 6? If you are using a bigger mold like Happy Dotting Company’s new #5 then she recommends a full 7 days.
The way I use the weight in this video was.. the weight didn’t change on day 5, 6, or 7… I figured all the water was gone. But… I don’t show that if I make 10 stones they all weigh different amounts. So treat each stone individually. It’s not comparing 2 stones to get the same weight. It’s monitoring each stones weight change. I’m going to bet that after 10 days you are good to go. Gosh I hope that’s explains it… let me know if it doesn’t. Rock on Lisa 🤗
So I use Cement-All which cost 3 times LESS. Dries hard in 1 hour. Remove from mold. Wait 1-4 hours and you can paint it. You need to wait 5-7 days to resin it. makes very smooth rocks. That will with stand up great outdoors also. Why use Ultracal? Nice video though.
Thanks for the tip! In the description I mention this was all a gift. So, I used this because it seemed to be popular and what I had. I’ve never heard of cement-all but I’m definitely interested!! I’ll check it out. I love a bargain!! If I get some I’ll let you know.
@@JaDeLRocks its great I use it for my stone sculptures!
yes that stuff is amazing and works great for sculptures with nature and rocks too!
It’s been a long time but I’m finally running out of the ultracal… I’m going to get the cement all. (I remembered) 🎉❤
How is the Cement All v. Ultracal 30, JaDel?
Bought mine from a used thrift store for just a few dollars.
Awesome find!!!
I was annoyed by bubbles that didn't pop & showed up on my painting surface of my self made rocks.
Solution: I found a vibrating plate used by jewelers/chemists & v-v-v-v-vibrated those bubbles away.
Thank you.
Oh my gosh that’s a great tip!! Don’t laugh at me.. naw go ahead! But… I went through the same thought process. On my ultracal rocks I literally used an electric toothbrush and went over the mold with it. Then I think it was Jody from Jody paints it up on Facebook that had a video where she literally sticks a paintbrush in the mix and rubs the mold to release the bubbles. It’s a little messy but it works. The plate sounds sooooo easy! I do so many at once id wonder… how long do you have to leave it on there to be effective?
@@JaDeLRocks
LOL - I've used my electric toothbrush too but because it's a sonic wave it didn't do much. This is a commercial type instrument which has a knob to turn up the vibration. I start it on low and then slowly increased the speed. I make sure to hold onto my mold because it would vibrate across plate.
What’s the name of it.. I’d love to try that. So far that’s still the one thing that’s lacking for me… bubbles. Most of the time I get it right but they are still on the back of the rocks more often than not.
@@JaDeLRocks I'll look up and let you know
Thanks.. no hurry. I’m too broke to even pay attention right now and my darn electric just went out. So it might be a hot minute before I can paint or do art stuff let alone buy stuff 😂😂 oh this crazy world likes to toy with me. But that’s ok.. I’ll figure it out. Happy Sunday ♥️
I love Ultracal 30 but it's so expensive! I've been playing with Cement-all but it cures so fast that it's really hard to work with. If anyone has tips for that please let me know!
I love it too but it is expensive. CementAll is my 2nd choice… so far. I did a video on it. For making rocks the dry time was a god send. I think you just thin the mix a bit more. Here’s the video where it took me a couple of tries to get it right. Make Your Own Rocks With Rapid Set Cement All | Art Stones For Painting

Is there a page to download to know what size mold needs what amount of ultracal? I need a guide
Yes 🤗. Here’s a link… click the first one on the list 👍🏻

Where did you get the "recipe" sheet?

I hope you liked this video better 😉
Is it water proof ?
Yes. It doesn’t turn to mush when wet. I left one out on my porch. No paint or sealer… it took roughly 2 years to show damage. I also have a video for making these stones from Cement All…

One question the scale says kg and lb not oz
Hey there 😊 That’s just a button on my scales that changes the weights between pounds and ounces to kilo and grams.. I think. LOL, I’ve never changed it over because I only know pounds and ounces.
great video but too much work...
You’re not wrong. Especially since you’re making one at a time. I struggle to find rocks around here. I still haven’t figured out a good source for larger flat/smooth rocks. I can’t wait for summer so I can go exploring ♥️♥️♥️
