Just wanted to give more detail - It was pretty scary for us. It was -5 diopters, overnight. And *with* the prescription glasses we ended up getting, he still could not see past 4.5 feet away from himself the next day, so it may have initially gotten *worse* the morning after seeing the optometrist, after he had worn the glasses the night before and that morning. Without the glasses he could not see past 3.5 inches from his eyes. So he was practically blind for almost 4 days. The fourth morning he woke up and we measured how far away he could see and it had improved to about 8-10", then halfway through that day his vision came back and everything was clear and in focus again. What we did: We stopped the microscope (poor guy *loves* the microscope), stopped any use of the iPad, curbed the drawing and looking at books up close, and the Lego sets. We did not let him wear the glasses. We moved all of our furniture around (and took some out) to make space for more physical activities. We tossed or kicked a ball back and forth. We had him use a bow and arrow. We used plastic bowling pins and went "bowling" inside the house. We had him dribble a large ball around the house. We went outside (we had been inside for several weeks because of the snow and freezing temps). We held up words on paper just outside of his range of clarity and challenged him to read off the letters. His vision went on Thursday morning. He wore the glasses Thursday night and Friday for half the day. We started doing these things Friday evening. By Sunday he woke up and we could tell his vision was getting better (8" as opposed to 3.5"). Later that day while he was outside, his vision came back and literally yelled that he could see clearly again. We haven't come across this happening to anyone else (overnight plus how extreme the vision loss was) but I hope that our experience and this information can help someone else.
Indeed, our eyes can get locked in a myopic error, even a high one, without being enlarged inside. The same happened to me, I developed what the optometrist regarded as high myopia, thanks to computers and phone, and later, thanks to Jake all the supposed myopia was gone very fast. That was a lucky kid! So many young kids are already wearing heavy glasses, and their eyes will suffer greatly because of that. What a crazy world we live in!
Btw you should do a video about how to continue improving eyesight in the winter, as I am having a really hard time in that department. But take your time, no rush :)
My 6 year old daughter said she got high myopia. she was at -2.5 then 6 months later the doc said she’s -3.5. I’m lost now. Nothing else is wrong, so I’m going to start looking into it more.

Really interesting!!! My youngest, 11, has been wearing prescription glasses for 3 years now, and that all started when she got more into ipads and cellphones... I will watch the vídeos and try to reverse that... The good point is that she hates glasses... lol
My 11 year old daughter had perfect vision until last Wednesday during the school class. Began seeing double and then blurred. She was prescribed -1 and - 1.5 glasses by optometrist. Went to urgent eye centre and they did all scams and exams and said her eyes are fine and she just needs glasses. Very worrying.
Went to the pediatrician a few days ago. My son's eyesight is back to 20/20, was -7 diopters (overnight) approx. three weeks ago as measured by the pediatrician. Blood work doesn't show anything wrong that could indicate eye problems...
I have to add, to be fair - I didn't "hit and run" on the FB group. I'm still in the group and I never left! (If you read the post, that's what Jake thinks I did.)
Thanks for posting this, Jake. I read the link and it was very interesting. I like the solution - try outdoors and distance vision. One of the children was, interestingly bringing things very close their face. Now that can actually be in response to the fact that they find it difficult to see close up paradoxically, so they are creating even more eyestrain for themselves. Although small children are naturally a bit longsighted it may be worth following this up for a cycloplegic test to check for the opposite, hyperopia. Alternatively you could try something a bit more simple by presenting the child with something to read immediately after a good long bout of vigourous outdoor activity. I know they may be a bit young for proper reading but if say, a 12 or 14 font looks blurry or out of focus to them (children's eyes are very flexible) then there's a problem. Or you could have their name printed in a few different fonts and check which ones they can see.
Jake pseudomyopia doesn't account for -5 diopters??? Last time I checked cilLiary muscle spasm alone, only accounts for about .5 or .75 diopters right?
It can be more than that. The eyes can use a lot of muscle for extremely close focus, especially in the young. If you're holding that focus for too long that muscle can go into lockdown to a quite substantial degree. It depends how much someone has to strain to see up close.
My soon to be 12 yr old daughter has been given -4.25 and -4 with a bit of cyl in both eyes. She is in high school and they have fixed seating plan in all lessons in classrooms. I have to get the glasses but she knows not to wear them for close up. I'm still studying EM and trying to learn how to tackle this and help her revert that. She is an avid book reader and that's how we got into this, she doesn't use screens ,just laptop for homework. Any guidance would be most appreciated.
Respected Sir My brother Wear -5 glasses and he is just 12 year old. What shall I do to stop getting his myopia worse At this stage I can't think to end myopia. My family and I are just hoping that his no. Doesn't increase till 18 so that he can have LASIK surgery. Since you have used such words as frightening ,crazy I feel like you can understand what we are feeling Please help Promise we will do whatever you say to treat his eyes. Please help respected Sir........

Hi Jake! I'm 15 years old, i started wearing glasses about 6-8 months ago cuz of spending so much time in front of the computer, not getting enough of sleep, thats what i've been told, so.. i have astigmatism of -1.25 in the left eye and -1.75 in right one. Im sick of wearing glasses and it makes me hate myself, i've asked all the optometrists i've been to on how to cure it or something and all they have said is to go for Lasik when i'm 18 and i know it doesn't work and it's just making money for them. So please help me and reply to me i really feel sad about this astigmatism thing it gives me headaches and strains and i can't study when i'm not wearing my glasses and i hate wearing them. Please help and reply!
It's so typical of people of traditional medicine to tell you to get the quick fix (LASIK). LASIK is an instant "fix" that requires no work. It's nothing new inwestern medicine where the root cause of the issue is never treated. Have heart disease? Don't hange your diet take these drugs. Have Gallstones, instead of fixing the imbalance lets surgicaly remove your galbladder. This is nothing new at all
K1LL3R . read all you can on end myopia. go out side without glasses, find some text read it from just beyond where it's in focus. 10 minutes at a time in bright light. keep inching back or moving on to smaller text. blink and let your eyes refocus. no squinting except very briefly.
i'm a high school student, and this week I've been becoming increasingly nearsighted. I work a lot with worksheets, computers, books and the like. Could this be the same case?

It definitely happens more often than people realize. Well done catching it before it turned into a full time glasses scenario, Ashley!
wow, very nice of you, you deserve a medal.
Thank you very much for sharing this experience.
