I was thinking about him saying that earlier. It is excellent advice. Thinking too much about these things frustrates me at times because they don't translate perfectly or even anywhere near it. But just getting my mind to just accept the fact that "this is the way they say it", is a huge help.

Another home run, thanks. I need these useful tricks to kick start my questions. Like many beginners I know many words and simple grammar but conversations are tough because I really struggle understand the rapid speech of native speakers. Sometimes I go in strong with a great question though and the other person assumes I’m many levels above my actual ability😂

As always very informative. I appreciate your videos. I like your "sería posible" construct. Employing magic, I started using "me gustaría" verb/noun, which seems to work, but I don't know if this is common or proper use. Examples: me gustaría una copia. Me gustaría sentarme aquí.
This meant that asking about the possibility in question form, I had to use with "me gustaría sentarme aquí si es posible". Using sería gets around the complexity "sería possible sentarme aquí." This is much cleaner.

Great lesson Paul, as a starter I used to say things like Puedo pagar la cuenta? - a lot! until I explained to a native speaker that a nice lady bar tender said in English in a matronly manner "well yes of course you can" to the amusement of the other staff. My friend explained that to a native my question would be viewed as a little child like or even a question that they can't answer i.e. "I don't know, depends if you have the money"! Your lesson has got me covered for next time, Many thanks

Three of my phone translators all say "Puedo pagar" are acceptable for "May I pay?" However, if you are NOT using "Seria posible pagar?", then "Podria pagar?" (Could I pay?) or "Me permite pagar?" (Will you permit me to pay?) would be a little more sophisticated.

It's interesting; I've been working through your subjunctive playlist and when exploring this concept, translations often come up with subjunctives. E.g. ¿Sería posible que nos sentáramos allí? o ¿Estaría bien si nos sentáramos allí?
What's good about that is that I can now recognise the subjunctive and why they've used it. That demonstrates to me at least, that I'm making progress. ¡Fantastico!

Most of us are aware that Mexican dialects differ from region to region. Here in northern Baja, the use of the phrase "Puedo obtener..." among native speakers is practically non-existent. You'll be immediately pegged as a newly arrived Gringo. Everyone uses Conseguir. It seems to strike the perfect balance between formal and casual usage...

Hey Paul, could you atleast finish the first season of cero to conversacional? I know you discontinued it but that was the best Spanish lessons I’ve had, I appreciate your talent as a teacher and I think if it goes to lesson 10 then finishes it might give more people some closure. This way we can have enough to speak in Mexico.
Also a suggestion for you for future videos is actually listening to Spanish. How can I get better at listening Spanish speakers, I think that’s my biggest flaw
    Thank you

Seriously Paul! This is super helpful!! Why why why has no one mentioned this afternoon living here in Mexico??
It's like you're the only Spanish teacher who understands what is REALLY NECESSARY to communicate regular stuff!! Are you teaching classes of any kind?? I suppose I can check somewhere on your site or RUclipss, I will... but I have a feeling you're doing other stuff. Interested in finding out if you do consulting. It just seems like you're aware of so much more than others.
And video suggestion: earthquakes. Happening on the west of Mexico. Would be great to have some ideas about how to handle them.
