Working at a General Cinema was one of my first jobs. I started in 94 and worked there till 2001. It's still the best job I ever had. Didn't get paid much but I loved it. I'm 43 now and every once and a while I'll have a dream that I go back and everything is just as it was. Same people working. I look forward to those dreams lol. Thanks for this upload.

Thanks! I knew there would be at least one person who would get enjoyment from it. I got this VHS from my dad who worked for the company in the late eighties and beyond as well.
It's pretty crappy quality but I think it's my VCR honestly. I'm trying to find another player to test it on and hopefully reupload

Ha! I worked for GCC from 86 - 90. I remember going from the sky blue jackets to the vests and bow ties. Often wonder if I should go back to tearing tickets once I retire to be that old guy working at the movies.

@@horrorfilmkid4825 You should invest in a capture device instead of taping it off the screen -- that would definitely help.

@@horrorfilmkid4825 You don't happen to still have the videotape this came from. I might be able to create a better quality copy.

I enjoyed this too. It retracts the history of General Cinema Corporation itself. It's one important piece of GCC history. These training tapes taught new employees on how to work in the Concession stands at every GCC around at that time. Let's keep the history of GCC alive!!!

This is classic. I worked for many movie theaters back in the 90s. This was one of them! The fail part of this video is hilarious! I have nothing, can you stop by on the way out, lol. Fired!

Those movies on the sign came out in the summer of '86! I worked at Westgate Cinemas (GCC) in Brockton, Ma. that summer.

GCC Chestnut Hill - I saw a few movies there (Pocahontas and at least one or two others) during my family's brief stint in Boston during the Summer of 95.... IIRC it was tired and outdated even at that point and closed some time before AMC bought out General Cinema in 2002. Today it's Showcase Cinemas' flagship "Super Lux." My partner and I went there awhile back, by far the classiest movie theater I've ever been to and the food was phenomenal - though not a cheap date night for sure! Pretty sure we spent north of $150 between our tickets, dinner, and adult beverages - crazy how much things have changed since the days of GCC.

Holy Crap, I would love to know how the person who posted this got the footage. This was shot at Marketplace General Cinema in Henrietta, NY. I know many of the faces of the people in this video because I worked with them from 1988 - 1989 as an usher and in concessions., and from 1990 - 1991, as a cleaner. This theater was the premiere theater in Rochester NY and on a Friday and Saturday nights it was typical to see a line wrapped around the theater. I have so many awesome memories of this theater and the people that worked there. The Marketplace Mall Cinema 7 was opened May 2, 1986, and it remained open until 2000 when General Cinema went into bankruptcy.

So back then, most theater chains didn't pop their own popcorn!? Wow, times have changed. Nowadays, every theater I go to pops it fresh in front of the customers. I think theaters and concession stands have gotten bigger since then.

The Marketplace Mall General Cinema (Rochester NY) so prominently featured in this video, did pop their own popcorn, however it was typically popped days in advance. There was a room designated as the popcorn room that stored the soda pop syrups (Bag-In-Box), the premade popcorn in large plastic bags, popcorn kernels, and directly in the center of the room against the back wall was a large popcorn service station.
The popcorn service station was a sizable stainless-steel table that had sidewalls, a chute to push popcorn into plastic bags, and 2 pedestal kettles on either end of the table. Popcorn that was popped in the kettles made its way onto the table. Then the popcorn was manually moved around the table to force the un-popped corn to fall into a container, and lastly the operator would push the finished popcorn in to large bags for storage.
Popping popcorn was great, we got to blast toons, drink free pop and if we were lucky, the girls would come sit with us on their breaks.

This video says nothing about how to jettison the snacks into space. That must have been in one of those workbooks.
