Nice video. I got the blade off and was wondering how to get the next bit off. You showed perfectly how to tap it off. Thank you. You got a well-deserved thumbs up!
That is awesome, I have two mowers, one has a bent crankshaft and I bought another one because I didn't know how to fix it so I just kept it for a backup. Now I'm going to fix it myself.
I ran over a half buried piece of metal from some kind of a tray it's amazing when you try to mow a property or litterbugs just dumped all kinds of junk that spread everywhere and how many people out there don't know the concept of a trash can because I also ran over some half buried yarn it was a yarn ball and that literally broke the mower. So when I tried to start the mower it sounded like a machine gun and it vibrated so loud I thought it was going to explode or something. I'm going to try this method and see if it helps thank you! Because of the economy now a lawn mower cost $200 even $300 for the cheapest mower but Walmart used to have them for $120 for a nice sized small mower. Now it's double in price so this will help hopefully.
Thanks MacGyver! The first video I saw. And the way you described it shaking is what my mower is doing. I am going to try and do what you suggested. Wish me luck.
You had me nervous when the spark plug was in and you were handling the blade. Great fix, with a cabin in the precambrian shield this will save me thousands
@@Blueshirt38Spinning the blade by hand is exactly the same as pulling the cord. For a well tuned mower the only thing that is keeping it from starting is the safety switch. Popping the spark plug wire off is cheap and easy insurance, especially if you're going to do it later in the process anyway.
@@jasexavier Gosh, if only mowers came equipped with some sort of dead-man's-switch style mechanism that would stop the ignition coil from sending a spark to the combustion chamber when not held down... Oh well, I guess we don't live in that world, so we should all live in a constant state of fear that a strong gust of wind may start up our lawn death machines on a rampage.
@@Blueshirt38 As I said, the only thing keeping it from starting is the safety switch. Like the safety on a firearm, they are useful, but they can and do fail. Also, older mowers don't have them, and some people deliberately bypass them. In any of those cases it's possible to start a mower by rotating the blades by hand. The safety switch also keeps it from starting when you pull the cord, so by your logic, there's no need to disconnect the spark plug for that part either. Or, take the maximum 5 seconds it takes to make sure it can't start.
I used to pound the sand outta my old mower’s crank when it bent but then discovered the more controlled method of using an eight foot pipe. Just tip the mower and strap it against a strong fence, take the propeller off, put the pipe over the crankshaft and start yarding on it.
Always remove the spark plug before doing any maintenance on the underside of any mower. It makes a mechanical accident impossible. If the clamp bar connection on the mower were to malfunction and keep the plug ‘hot’, you can start a mower by simply moving the blades. Think of old movies where the guy yelled “contact!” And manually started the propeller of an airplane, mowers work identical to this. Safety first. This is how people lose fingers from trying to work on a mower
Another website I just watched recommended using a long pipe for this job. Banging on the shaft risks doing internal and fatal damage to the engine. The bent shaft issue could be avoided the first place if the blade was held on the shaft with shear bolts.
Im not making fun of you...but you say that metal is funny like that cause It'll bounce right back? Funny thing about aluminum, it doesn't really 'bounce' at all.... if you hut that output shaft too hard, you're liable to crack the bottom end of the motor...just always mind a bit of finess when doing these types of repairs brother. Great video though!
Don't do this, This repair can crack the oil pan and bearing. Judging by the buildup of grass this guy doesn't understand or take care of this mower. He gives shade tree mechanics a bad name.
Having this issue after hitting a stump. I appreciate the video, but especially appreciate the fart at 4:29
Hahahahahah
lol good ears. i missed that.
I missed that too lmfao. I showed my wife lol
😂😂😂

The Johnny Depp of lawnmower repair! Thanks man
Good Video , i have this problem with a few of my mowers ! Thankyou !
Cool...I thought I saw it move back like on the second hit...but I agree with the guy who suggested a long pipe....

Dude the same thing happened to me ! Did this work?
Simple fix I like your video I have a new mower went over a light post nut and now mine shacks like hell but I’m going to try your way👍
It will work 👍
Thanks MacGyver! The first video I saw. And the way you described it shaking is what my mower is doing. I am going to try and do what you suggested. Wish me luck.

Yeah the lawnmower was turned off. It's
Did you think the mower was going to pull its own cord and start itself? Insane thing to be scared of.

Nice thanks and greetings from Germany
Awesome video. Saved me from buying a new lawnmower.
Thought it was just the blade but I might still have a bent shaft & now I know how to fix it..Thanks

The clamp bar does not only keep the spark plug disconnected but it also has a mechanical brake on the engine.
Works great thank you!👍
Awesome glad to hear it
Awesome my friend..thank you
No problem
I got a replacement blade
It’s wider and heavier
I wonder if that will lessen the vibration from the bent crank shaft ?? I guess I’ll find out 😊
Just bend it back, it's only gonna make it worse
hey, really nice video...first of its kind...
Do you have to remove the gas and oil first to prevent them from leaking or mixing?
The oil should be fine, I wouldn't do it with a completely full tank of gas

I literally cut lawns for a living, trust me this is how it's done.
@@ProblemSolverGarage Your money.
Thanks my brother 🤜🏼🤛🏼
What are you moving to turn the crank shaft, the pull cord?
Yes, pull the spark plug out
Thanks for the tip. Not sure I would want to hit it with a hammer, that might flatten the key hole. Think I'll use a long pipe instead.
Nice Job, … but … Scrape That Damn Deck! 😂😂😂
God Bless
😎
😂😂😂
Scraping the deck is a waste of time bro.
Did this guy rip one out at 4:28?
Lmao
Excellent thx
all you really need is a good eye, and a sledge hammer
Correct ✅
@@ProblemSolverGarage thanks for posting this. helped allot with the aweful vibration in handle. turned out i needed new blade too.
I saw in another video where u just need to pull the boot off instead of the whole plug ?
There's no compression with the spark plug is out so you can turn the shaft around easier when you pull the rope.
Great ide
Good job.
Thx
Awesome, but i hit with a 2x4 on the metal with small malet just once and that it.
Done it a few times myself
My electric mower has a bearing. If the bearing isn’t what took the damage in the first place it probably will when hammering it back. :(
That blade is perpendicular to the blade adapter! 🤯
Use a pipe not a hammer!
How come?
Man that clamp that attaches to the blade to the mower I could not bang it off.
Sometimes they can suck. You might have to use some kind of puller

did he just fart at 4:28
😂😂😂😂😂😂😊
Yeah this didn’t work for me.
Maybe your hammer is too small
Nice way to lose 5 fingers

Youre in the minority. Maybe right
I agree with you. How do you suggest to fix it?
Excellent video. Thank you! Take care and may God bless you and yours always, Jeff Schrembs ElvisCollector, info
