Arthur C Clarke’s Mysterious World was a terrifying show. One of those creepy theme tunes that put a chill down your spine. I’ll never forget a charred leg with a ladies high heel on as proof of spontaneous combustion.
Looking back and remembering the tropes of the time, it was probably a chip pan fire. 😂

Under your James Whale video I commented how traumatising the Usborne Book Of Ghosts was when I was a child, and in particular the photo of that hard as nails looking ghost in the church.
Well, the photo in this video of 'that ghostly old man in the back of a car' at 11:13 was also in that book, and maybe used to shit me up even more than that hard as nails looking ghost in the church. Absolutely terrified me to death that photo, especially any time I had to go on a car journey somewhere.
Not only that, in this video you also used a photo of 'the ghost of Raynham Hall' which was also in that book. And if my traumatised memory serves me right, the photos of the hard as nails looking ghost in the church, that ghostly old man in the back of the car, and the ghost of Raynham Hall were not only all in the Usborne Book Of Ghosts, but actually all on the same ruddy bloody PAGE. Which would therefore make it the scariest page in any ghost book ever.

Seconded. As a very haunted child this was probably a very unwise book to have in my possession. Years later i was talking to a mate in my bedroom about the horrors (diabetic related hallucinations) i suffered in years gone by. I had a couple of stones with carved goblin faces on the bookshelf. As i told him about this book as being the possible source of the visions, one of these stone faces flew across the room. Some 35 years later it feels like this was a false memory, but my friend confirmed it happened. Christ.

@@yogbarog100 That's heavy stuff. I'm with you when you say it was an unwise book to have - haunted child or not. I know my original comment above was written somewhat flippantly and a little in jest, but there is definitely truth to it, which I'm not ashamed to admit now many years later. For the age group it was aimed at, it was a genuinely pretty full on book. I had a friend the same age who had it too, and the book freaked him out as well. Like, properly freaked him out. Me too - as I said in my comment under Stuart's James Whale video, my parents had to hide it from me as it was giving me night terrors. Not just the photos, but some of the stories were pretty dark too, and the general vibe of the book and how it was written was that ghosts really DO exist. Something about the illustrations were a bit unsettling too. It seems strange to say this about what was essentially a kids book but the whole atmosphere of the book, it was just......odd. There's a brief flick through of the book here, I've not seen that book for probably 30 odd years - every page really brings it back: ruclips.net/video/7kZfQpfPh9g/видео.html

@@theflyintheointment the keening mewls past midnight gone, the grasping figure where no light shone. Betwixt reality and hell, you find a scared little boy frantically disposing of this book, page by page, into the family hearth, only to discover, in the morning, the book fully restored, pages gaping wide at the ghostly priest or diagram of how to do your own ghost hunt. Awful ✖️

Absolutely love that book. I didn't own it as a child but it was basically permanently booked out by me but I got lucky, I happened to be walking past a charity shop and it was in the window, the exact copy that I had from the library. First editions are quite pricey now but I bought it for the memories.
