Funny thing, Jimmy Valiant did a promo leading up to Starcade 86 where he talked about both him and Fernandez were both in Nam. Give Manny credit for keeping kayfabe
Hey, it was the 80s- Manny probably had some shrapnel sent over from Nam and forced it into his side so he could tell that story. Then did a bag of weed to kill the pain....
My favourite Manny memory is when he tried to bully his way on to a Hardy Boyz run indy show in the 90s and they told him to fuck off. 2 years later when they were the Tag Champs they saw Manny working as a Janitor, and made fun of him.
I remember The Hardys telling the same story on Talk Is Jericho about Manny showing up uninvited on one of their events during their Omega days. They were just teenagers back then and 18 yr old Matt stood up against him. My name is Manny too, by the way hah!
North Carolina is wrestling country. It seems like the greats either come to live there after a great career, or they come out of NC to start their career.
Out of all Manny's stories, the ones about Tully Blancard are likely true in parts. The one cornette is referencing is from when Manny and Tully were at a strip club. Tully hit on one of the girls who it turned out had a biker boyfriend. They went with her to a Dennys restaurant. The Biker showed up and starts threatening Tully. Manny comes out of the bathroom and gets on the biker in a narrow hallway to protect Tully (who isn't a fighter) and Manny gets stabbed in the arm. The police get called and biker leaves.

I thought Manny Fernandez returning to WCW in the mid 90's as a jobber. I just checked it is a short stocky dark haired guy but it isn't the original Manny Fernandez, I wonder if that was a rib or a coincidence.
Corny is just jealous because he didn't play Pro Ball at the exact same time as being an Easter Seal in 'Nam, and single handedly capturing a VC Admiral with a Lying Burrito

Oh my god, they are still making a mountain out of a molehill over that one thing Jim said in passing? Jim was talking about Manny referencing some of his gimmicks, one of which was that of a former pro football player. Personally, I find that to be more of a lie, than a gimmick, as there was plenty of ex-pro football players in wrestling then. The irony of stolen valor, right? Anyway, Cornette said Manny was full of crap about injuries(shrapnel) received in NAM, and used as a gimmick. He said quickly, “Manny didn’t play pro ball, and he wasn’t in Nam. He might have meant to say, “He wasn’t injured in Nam….for real”. Perhaps, Manny would get more sympathy if he didn’t tell so many lies himself. I get it! Some of them have a hard time balancing the death of kayfabe. Since we know they weren’t really “super human fighters”, they pretend to be super at other things.
My last feud was against Manny. Loved our matches! Also, just realized that I’m undefeated against him. Manny teaming with Willie Clay vs me & my partner were some of my favourite matches of my career... RIP Willie
Aww look at Cornette trying to pretend he knows wrestling history. Stick to attracting the worst people online by talking about Kenny Omega's sexuality or Jordynn Grace's face. Wrestling history isn't really your thing since you have no idea about anything wrestling related in this millenium, nor have you any knowledge of any international wrestling, anything foregin scares you. Cornette's at best a 'regional expert' of 60s-80s Midsouth and some East Coast stuff. He can't even speak without stuttering and 'aww shucking' when the question moves towards Portland and the Pacific Northwest territories. Nobody is a 'wrestling historian' who doesn't know one iota of international wrestling.
