I'm doing a pantry challenge too and on Friday we had a Panera night. A few random jars of soup, big salad, grilled cheese and folks can enjoy a 'you pick 2' dinner. It was fun and I cleared out some space in the freezer!

I can't tell you the number of moms I saw giving last-minute instructions/lessons on laundry while moving their "kids" into college. Four kids of my own - and each freshman year of move in, I'd always shake my head in amazement, seeing college freshman look at a washing machine in bewilderment, moms at their side, showing them how to do laundry. 18 years old and not a clue how to clean their clothes! I cleaned out my refrigerator last week and it wasn't bad since I keep up with it but the pantry was another story. This weekend I tackled the pantry. It's the first time in 10 years that I actually took everything out and looked at every expiration dates.. I found stuff with 2014 expiration dates! 🙄
I ended up tossing a lot of spices and made an online grocery delivery to only replace stuff I actually use. Why did I have 2 full large bottles of vegetable oil and 5 and 1/2 bottles of maple syrup? I'm giving away some syrup since it doesn't go bad but it was a real eye opener. I can't wait to cook where I don't have to dig in the pantry to find what I need and to save some money on not buying duplicates of anything that I already have.

Wait what? I just did a FULL inventory of my freezer/fridge/pantry and made a full MONTH dinner plan 😂 Seriously, I am planning to get no groceries for our dinner for 30 days.
One exception: my birthday is in January (only the best people were born in January) and I will be buying pizza. Because I love pizza and I hate making it myself and I get to choose dinner on my birthday 😆 Yes, I am turning 41 in a week, and I still choose my birthday food like a 12 year old. Because pizza is awesome!

    I hope Hailey is OK.
I've been on a low buy for meat in the hopes of emptying out the freezer. Actually starting to make progress and a Costco sized bag of frozen goods can fit in now!
So I just turned leftover roast chicken into chicken parmesan stuffed shells (used up a box of shells in the process), used up a jar of marinara sauce, finished off some parm & got a bag of cheese out of the freezer. The only thing I bought was ricotta cheese for it. (Yes, I'm using up roast chicken so I can get another roast chicken so I can use up bread in the freezer to make dressing...totally logical...)
I want to make cookies, but I don't want to do the dishes so the m&ms, white chips & pudding mix may end up back in the pantry.
The weather on Wed (my next cooking day) looks cruddy, so I may pull out stew meat & do a slow cooker stew...that'll get a can of tomatoes & jar of mushrooms out of the pantry too. Ugh, bought fresh green beans that need using first...um try pomegranate salmon with green beans & brussel sprouts.
After the stew is eaten up, I'm thinking a pork stir fry to get a can of mandarin oranges & bag of frozen sugar snap peas used up. Wait, I need to eat that broccoli...I may go buy heavy cream & make an olive garden chicken Alfredo thing...
Ok, salmon, Alfredo chicken, stew, pork stir fry. And the only things I need to buy are brussel sprouts & heavy cream.

Good for the boys, my parents did that. And my dad taught me how to work on my car, change tires, change oil, what to look at when buying a used car.
He even taught 3 of his granddaughters

Once they all know a pasta dish, a chicken dish, a good burger, a roast and a dessert then they can build from that. Few basics like oatmeal and eggs and breakfast type dishes. Such an important life skill that is often skipped in boys.

Hawaiian Sesame Chicken in the crock pot... Had random can of pineapple in juice, mango puree in a jar, a bunch of chicken thighs and frozen garlic and green onions. So yes, absolutely on board to cleaning out the fridge/freezer and pantry.
