Welcome to episode 17 of the Cinemassacre Podcast!! The full crew of Cinemassacre is BACK (James, Kieran, and Justin). We're also shortening these podcasts to be tighter, in a 35 to 50 minute range, so, excuse us as we slide into that.
The guys chat about their lives and the stuff they love: movies, games, and making videos. You’ll also hear about behind-the-scenes antics, anecdotes about being long-time RUclipsrs, and a ton of obscure pop-culture crap. It’s the off-the-cuff banter from Rental Reviews mixed with an AVGN panel, every Tuesday around 3pm ET... or find it on cinemassacre.com or wherever you get your podcasts shortly after.

So James, will you give us your personal opinion on Ghostbusters: Afterlife?
my ridge wallet .
Clicked on this thinking it would be James talking about AVGN, instead it's your podcast with the two uncharismatic dullards that talk over everything. Ever think if you have to remove "podcast" from the title of your podcast, then maybe your audience isn't interested in a podcast?
I loved the Aladdin upper decking your toilet.
Fred Fuches
To me, the SwordQuest episode has always stood out. Funnily, it has way less cursing than your average AVGN episode and in general it feels more chill. I like the informative style of it, it was well researched and I remember being super fascinated of the presentation.
Came here to say exactly this! Even the ren faire styled AVGN theme was fun
@@jamalgordon8883 I have not
That one is super cool :)
You should check out some of the Cinemassacre movie reviews, especially the Golden and Silver age of Horror. Introspective James at his best.
It's my favorite as well.
The 4 Castlevania episodes will forever be my favorite. You can feel the love and passion for the series in every single episode and they’re by far the funniest in my opinion. The Godzilla episode also holds a special place in my heart since thats what got me into AVGN
WOOOOORD. I watch them eventually, every year at least!
It should be preserved in the library of congress
You can tell he loved it so much and that's the hardest part of any director is to show the audience how much the love the material.
This !
Nothing beats the Castlevania-thon. The history of the franchise and his personal experiences with it makes the episodes exquisite!
My favorite is plumbers don't wear ties. It's just such a random and weird game on an obscure console and James's reactions are priceless.
Ikari warriors was the best episode. We can tell how much FUN you all had filming that one. It's got tons of gameplay, a funny skit, great music and hilarious dialogue.
Plumbers don't wear ties. Just the funniest one for me
Oh man that's a classic
You can't even trust the title of the game.
The Gameboy Accessories episode!! The moment James pulls out the Booster always cracks me up.
lol...I actually bought some of those...
My mind was just thinking that xD
Now we desperately need a Wii accessories episode
I wanna be sedated with a gameboy!
Me and my friends still yell "I Want to Be Sedated by a Gameboy" 😂
My best friend showed me the "chronologically confused" almost 20 years ago and i never stopped watching it.... this year we lost him to covid at the age of 38. I don't know if he watched the Taito episode... it is one of my absolute favorite episodes.... i laughed so hard i cried!!! Action 52 and the Bible ones are the ones i love to go back to
I am sorry for your friend, Nilton. Stay strong!
Im sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss
@@evaneibach thank you
Has to be Action 52 for me, so much so I even made an animation using the Nintoaster dialogue from the opening of the episode
Lights
Camera
....
ACTION 52!
It's not my absolute favourite but I probably watched it the most times
Big Rigs for me. James' reactions looked so genuine, he really seemed baffled by the game. Also, gave us the "edgy/cool" announcer character.
There was kind of a prototype of the edgy announcer at the beginning of the Sega CD video
Big Rigs was the one that introduced me to AVGN
I loved the Battletoads episode. The Guitar Guy moments are so freaking funny.
The guitar guy was also legendary in the ikari warriors episode
The Silver Surfer, Godzilla, Ninja Gaiden, Street Fighter 2010 and Tiger games are my absolute favorites. For some reason they just give me such a comforting feeling.
That game over screen transition in silver surfer was amazing
I watch those on repeat :)
They’re amazing!
Ninja gaiden was great
When I discovered AVGN it was around 2008 or 09...was working as a Paramedic and was still playing my old GameBoy Pocket as entertainment in between calls.. randomly found James' Turtles review and laughed. For DAYS. Love your work to this day! You guys are all awesome.
The Bible Adventures episode with Moses chasing the Animals had me in stitches, loved that one, among many others too.
That might the one RUclips video I actually have nostalgic feelings for.
Noah was the one chasing Animals. Moses was the one you threw into the river.
BABY MOSES BABY MOSES
Kieran needs his own podcast called "Cool Story Bro"
Seriously...
It's probably cuz he is high, tend to ramble
I thought it was great 👍
The last thing the world needs is another podcast by a randomer with nothing to say who cant be bothered
@@Borninthe9ties not every one who partakes rambles. some dont say much at all.
The Buggs Bunny Episodes have a special place in my heart hahaha
My favorite episodes are mostly the ones in which James just chills out and goes over a certain subject such as the Pong Console episode or the Nintendo Power episode.
They are perfect to watch and get comfortable after a rough day.
With you on that. Nintendo Power, Odyssey, Pong Consoles, Swordquest, are all some of the best episodes because they're so comfy.
Absolutely true! Absolutely true.
Of course, we should bear in mind that the reason we appreciate those episodes so much is largely because it breaks from the norm; without the non-chill episodes we also know and love, the episodes that break the norm wouldn't mean much.
Plumbers don’t wear ties is probably my favourite episode. I wonder if anyone else has that one at the top of their list.
The Rob Episode made me buy a real R.O.B he’s up on a shelf and always feels like he’s watching me.
Just waiting to turn all your video games into copies of Gyromite and Stack Up.
you ever play any sweet games with him like Contra or Top Gun?
@@endrankluvsda4loko172 only Gyromite and Stack Up
Punch Rob in the face
My fav AVGN episodes are the ones where you talk about truly rare, obscure, random games, that absolutely no one has ever heard of, like Sea Man & Hong Kong '97. Also your videos on cover art.
Sea Man was so fascinating :)
The Dracula episode will always be a classic, especially when he's playing the text-based Vic-20 game, and is the beginning of the long-running "Fred Fuchs" joke. But I also really liked the Schwarzenegger Games episode, specifically when he's playing Predator and how he accidentally restarts the game from the beginning. The setup and delivery of that was just perfect.
You could never top crazy castle. The humor, fighting, ending that's all quint essential AVGN
Quintessential is one word
COLE PHELPS, LAPD!
@@dorkknight86 it was Tiernan not me
Bible Games are my favorite episodes, production wise might not be the most impressive episodes, but the humor is spot on, it is still a Christmas tradition of mine to binge the bible games episodes
Anyone else getting an "end of an era" vibe or is it just me? The handfuls of retrospective vids lately, the hype about episode 200, the more subdued tone of Justin and Keiran, the focus on Rex Viper? I've just got a feeling the episode 200 might be the last AVGN video he makes.
i get the end of an era vibe as well, but the difference with me is i feel the styles are changing to something else entirely, but we are still going to get more episodes
R.O.B the Robot will always be one of the funniest gaming videos I’ve seen on this RUclips platform! Thank you for your work on that and so many other brilliant episodes James!! Here’s to 200!!
Swordquest is my favorite episode to go back and re-watch. Been watching since the beginning and can't wait for 200!
That one was phenomenal.
Earthbound will forever by my favorite AVGN episode. It was just such a masterclass of a video.
This is my favorite too.
@Kennison Swah , nah. When James says "that stinks" referring to the scratch n sniff. Hilarious.
The gyro joke in the rob episode will forever be the hardest i have laughed at a youtube video.
I have a huge passion for the R.o.b episode and the SMB3 episode. These episodes are just straight up classics.
I love the episode on R.O.B. It is so funny how you slowly get more and more fed up with him, so much fun to watch and rewatch!
Berenstain Bears is arguably the crown of your library. But Sword Quest is also fantastic.
Justin is so angry watching Kerrigan praising old avgn lol
"Front door, closet, front door... ... closet!" A nightmare on Elm Street. Legendary episode. 😅
Fav episode for me Was the 2-part Intellivision review (Doublevision), something about the combination of the review and Kyle's cover of doublevision just worked so well for me, it was also my introduction to the Nerd and left a Big impression on me about how a Game/System review can be more then just a review.
Got into AVGN in the last year or so, put on seasons to fall asleep to. Waking up in the middle of the night to Polybius was the best experience I’ve had with the content
My favorite episode was the one where The Nerd gets angry.
You guys rock. James is a fracking legend. He seems so down to earth. Avgn has gotten me through some tough times. Thank you!
AVGN will always be my favorite web series. Up there with Red Vs Blue and Nostalgia Critic.
Please don't ever listen to nostalgia critics parody of Pink Floyd's the Wall if you wanna keep your enjoyment to watching his content.
Here's some of my favorites: Mario 3, Ecco the Dolphin, Raid 2020, Game Glitches, Earthbound
So many of those old episodes like the powerglove one are like old classic films, theres just some magic about them for me at least.
Mine is surely Plumbers don't wear ties, and I also love Hong Kong 97 and Big Rigs(and every other episode). James himself said those episodes are more like the games themselves are so broken that he had to do was doing reaction, but I love that part. His expressions are so satisfying to watch.
Thank you James for 200 amazing videos. And Kieran and Justin, thank you as well. Justin, Spawn is one of my fav episodes, HUGE in part to you dude
Mario 3 is such a classic
super mecha death christ used to have me dying as a kid
@@connermcminn9704 WATCH YA FCKIN LANGAUAGE 😂
Kierans communication's teacher sounds like a great guy.
I liked the Berenstain Bears stuff and not technically “nerd” episodes but the entirety of the Board James series
Board James is awesome
Berenštajn Bears
I agree.. I love the evolution and devolution of him in those videos
The Berenstein Bears.
Board James is by far hands down the best thing James has ever done and always will be.
I love the episodes with Mike Matei or any other guests and characters but my favourites AVGN episodes are the one with James and no one else. Just him, his jokes and the games. I feel like I'm with him while watching those episodes, I know maybe it's weird but that's the way I feel.
Anyway, my favourites episodes are Plumbers don't wear ties and especially the Tiger Electronic Games one, I love that episode!
The Super Pitfall episode with James imitating Pitfall Harry's walk cycle and death animation. Priceless!
Castlevania is prolly one of the best episodes
Which one? All 4 parts?
all 5 castlevania episodes were the best halloween episodes imo
The AVGN episodes I liked and watched the most were Swordquest and the Castlevania marathon. Both convey the mood perfectly.
I love every episode but the Glitch Gremlin! I laughed til I cried 😂
Superman 64 is my favorite! Every joke is delievered so quick and on point, simply outstanding!
I don't know if Street Fighter 2010 is my absolute favorite episode but it's probably the most memorable because it directly inspired me to buy the game , pop it into my NES, and play it until I could beat it in one go. I've never done that with any other AVGN episode. Thank you James for all the laughs.
Little Red Hood has got to be up there for me along with the Castlevania / Dracula / Frankenstein Halloween episodes.
defiinitely
Can’t wait to see Episode 200 and what you guys got planned for 2022
I love all the episodes with the weird consoles and peripherals
I could always tell with Castlevania, the love just poured through the episode. You can tell he really loved the games as a kid.
I love so many of them. Hong Kong 97 always comes to my mind as one of the best.
Love watching 2007-half of 2008 episodes.
But my true favorites are Power Rangers and Earthbound.
I think when everyone heard there was a Cinemassacre podcast, this is what they imagined. A++ episode.
I love almost all your episodes you couldn't imagine how many times I watched them.
One of my favorite Episodes was when grandpa James played Boogie.
But also the Berenstain Bears one
I love the Walking on Sunshine segment. That truly made me belly laugh.
I also fondly remember Sega Genesis vs Super Nintendo videos. They were not a part of AVGN, but an amazing material still. And Board James as well - what a great series!
Thanks for the Memories, James.
Been watching you since I was 12.
YES! The batman episodes hands down are my favorite. The comedic timing, the pacing, the acting and editing was just PERFECT.
No doubt, if it counts since it's technically 2 "Double Vision" is my favorite, I LOVED learning about the history of the two consoles.
He’s gonna take you back to the past,
Means a little more now….
The power glove review was the funnest ever to me.
one of my favorite new episodes is the fear and loathing one! james' impression was on point
Ninja Gaiden is by far the best for me! I got my CIB NES game signed by James!
Mine are the castlevania ones. Not the original castlevania 2 review but the ones where James goes through all the old games. They make me so relaxed and happy
Thank you for years of AVGN.
Other than the Bugs Bunny return, one episode I hope to see in the future is a Scott the Woz and AVGN collab. That would be amazing. Heard alot of great ideas in this episode too. Excited for the future.
The Glitch Gremlin is one of the funniesrt things I have ever seen.
Kevin Finn is the best actor in any of the AVGN videos.
I think my favorite one is Big Rigs. I watched it several times and showed it to a bunch of friends.
Yes! That was never fails to make my sides hurt.
The Jason/Freddy Halloween two-parter will always have a special place in my heart
BOO haunted house lol I love the nightmare on elm street video and that's one of my favorite games to play, a nightmare on elm street on NES, and I've played it 4 player quite a few times which is always fun.
Love these clips, thanks James and CineMassacre Crew.
Sidekicks not crew sidekicks
Mega Man, Power Rangers, Back to the Future Re-Revisited, EarthBound, Big Rigs, Ninja Gaiden, and the Castlevania four-parter were my favorites that I rewatch every so often, but if I absolutely had to pick one, it's Mega Man. Such a celebration of the AVGN series as a whole.
I like the Ghostbusters, Star Trek, Star Wars, RoboCop, Terminator, and Back to the Future videos.
I do kind of hope for more board james content someday.
Besides those where James coined his catchphrases, weirdly for me, the power ranger collection always stood out. the clip of James singing the Juurenja theme song carved into my DNA.
The Earthbound, Ninja Gaiden , Castlevania and Ecco the Dolphin were great.
Earthbound was awsome, to date my favorite episode.
Same here, it's funny how James would talk about Earthbound and the smelly stickers and years later he tried the game out and loved it.
My absolute favorite is the Glitch Gremlin ep. Kevin is just so funny in that.
James is my favorite content creator! I've been watching him since 2004. My favorite episode is the Friday the 13th one, but there are so many other great ones!
My favorite episode by far was the Christmas episode with Keith Apicary.
That episode is pure gold
The one I watched probably over a hundred times was Super Pitfall. Still to this day it makes me lol so hard.
I actually enjoy them talking about their plans for future episodes.
I don't know if you guys will see this but I'm curious about how you guys manage to get so many guests on the show like Gilbert Godfrey and the guy who made toxic crusaders
Nintendo World Championship was probably peak AVGN for me... but when I think of 'classic' AVGN, I think of the Pong episode. To this day, I can't believe a human being could make a whole episode about freakin' PONG be so enjoyable.
Some of the Best Nerd episodes go into 2 ways.
- Either the game is so bad it gives off a lot material to work with (Dr. Jekyl, Desert Bus, Hong Kong '97, Big Rigs, Winter Games)
- Or James takes you back to his past. (Castlevania 4 parts, Top Gun, TMNT, Ghosts n Goblins, NES Accessories)
I think thats why I love the 4 Part Castlevania one so much because with Simon's Quest and The N64 ones it made it a perfect blend of both those types.
So a Contra version of that would be highly wanted 👍
Everyone hates Justin and Kieran.
It was fun looking back at the AVGN episodes that you guys mentioned. Thanks for all the fun videos, and we're all looking forward to number 200 and more.
Silver Surfer and Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout are my favorite, but I love so many. I could probably do a Top 50.
The Ninja turtles brought me back to my childhood… I got my nephew into your videos. Thank you for doing so many of these
I wanna see an episode covering the Super Smash Brothers series in the future. I especially would love to see the Nerd call out the Melee fanatics telling them that it's not the superior installment in the series that they think it is.
Plumbers don't wear ties will always be my favorite one.
Mine was the Ikari Warriors episode, until you released the Earthbound episode. Ikari is a close second.
Dragon's Lair has always been my favorite. Back then, I kept laughing uncontrollably no matter how many times I watched it.
I really liked the EarthBound video. A video where he enjoys a game instead of torturing himself with it. I’d like to see more of those every once in a while
Ikari Warriors for me was the best. Big ups James, keep doing your thing, man.
I love the classics but the polybius episode is a masterpiece
Rob the Robot and all the console review episodes. Robs behind the scenes is also worth mentioning.
