I love finding folks that feed their animals raw diets! I had cats several years ago that nearly died from eating a commercial kibble. After finding a raw feeding pet group online, I got a great recipe to make my own, bought a grinder and never looked back. The change in my animals was really the same as the change I went through switching to carnivore myself. It's so interesting that after so many thousands of years, there is still debate regarding what is a species appropriate diet for humans. You would think with our big brains, we would have figured that out already!

I really hope you are including some organ meat and eggs in their diet. Chicken hearts provide an excellent source of taurine. I would also include canned sardines, mackerel or salmon for an omega 3 food source.
Trishmiller143….is there a website you know of that could show how much to feed puppies carnivore, and what they need to strive, like the organ meets you suggested here?
I get my Goldendoodle puppy in two weeks snd this carnivore for pets is all new to me. I want him to be the healthiest pup ever. I ‘m kinda scared but I see nothing but great comments from people who feed their fur babies this way.
@@GrammaPatriot I'm feeding my new lab puppy a raw diet, I follow "paws of prey " on RUclips. She's got some great information and recipes.
@@jeffboutilier5075 oh..thank you…going to check that one out!
I believe the meat itself has taurine.
@@Jay-h9d9h yes - meat has taurine, but the amount found in each type of meat varies. Lamb and chicken breasts have less and are not good sources. Taurine is more concentrated in the heart muscle. The smaller the heart, the more taurine content. Cats must have taurine in their diet and their natural prey, rats and mice, provide them with a good source, especially in their hearts. Dark poultry meat is good, but chicken hearts have the more taurine.
Outstanding! Your dog eats better than 99% of the USA.
Knowledge is power, he's a lucky dog to have an informed owner
I have been feeding my dogs a raw diet for 13 years. I do not grind the bones but make sure they are appropriately sized for my dogs. I also include small amounts of organ meats like liver, heart, kidney or gizzards. If a dog has good teeth, is not a gulper and appropriate bones are fed based on size of dog, it is not necessary to grind the bones. Chewing the bones will clean the teeth. However, the bones must be chosen carefully and be appropriate for the dog. My dogs are 10 pounds and eat chicken wings, feet and backs. Grinding is fine if nervous about feeding bones. Some dogs also have dental issues and may need them ground.
Yes, I have to grindthe bones as my dog would try to swallow them whole! Thanks for your comment and viewership!
@carnivoresoldier Thank you! I always love to see people promoting species appropriate diets for dogs and humans! Many dogs are gulpers of bones. I do think if they were started on bones as puppies they may not have this tendency as much.
Adding some heart, liver or other organs occasionally can be of great benefit.
Very true! I give him organs as snacks
Hello from Australia, im carnivore 3mths, feeling awesome, and have 2 Labrador dogs. Ive been working at finding economical ways to feed them like i eat, as Labradors suffer from joint disease as i did, and carnivore fixed mine. Dog kibble is grain and seed oils......

I make my dogs carnivore too. I made carnivore for dogs before I did it for myself.
Wow so cool! I did it in reverse. 👍
I've been buying my dogs' food from RawPaws. I feed them just the meat. No vegetables or kibbles. I may have to invest in a grinder and do it myself. Thanks!

After I saw what meat did for my dog's arthritis I said why not for myself. Now my health excellent and arthritis gone.
Don’t forget liver (5%) & some other kind of secreting organ (kidney, gallbladder…), can also add heart/gizzards/tripe. Add variety. & if defrosting in microwave, make sure not to do it in the plastic container (microplastics leach especially when heated). Lucky pup!!
Hey isnt the myth that dogs need less fat the same misconception as in humans? I found some info online that dogs thrive on fat. The pancreatitis seems to happen when they eat all the grains and then overeat fat.
Yes, dogs thrive on the right amount of fat. They have smaller brains and in the wild eat leaner meats from fowl, rabbits, voles, moles, snakes, etc. They do not hunt down and kill fatty cows. Feed them like htye eat in the wild for the win!
Did you have trouble with your dog transitioning to this food? Did he like it right away or was there time to get him used to it?
Duke took to it right away. My neighbors dog transitioned from cooked to raw over a few months
Thank you sir !’ ❤
My dog’s name is Duke.
Thank you for this video and thank you for your service to our country! 🙏🏻❤️🇺🇸
Any time!
Do you ever feed ground beef or fish or add liver?
I have tried ground beef but he prefers chicken. Also I do add raw egg and occasional chicken hearts
Is there a reason why you don't add heart or Taurine, and other organs?
I add eggs instead. Sometimes a bit of heart
Well done sir! I want to say it also important to not forget secreting organs as liver, kidney and also muscular ones as hearts, lungs etc
Have a good one !
I occasionally add gizzards and heat, but more regularly crack a raw egg onto his food for that
Just chicken? That’s not enough nutrition. He needs organs, salt, eggs, and a tiny portion of vegetables. And he needs different meat.
Interesting. I just feed my malinois raw whole chicken quarters, a couple eggs, and an occasional liver or raw beef rib. Maybe I should get a grinder

you don't need the grinder if doing it without the grinder is working. I only got a grinder because it's for my cat and my cat won't eat it unless its cut up or ground.
No concerns about the high omega 6 in chicken fat since they are fed garbage?
Not for dogs - Just got his annual vet visit and at 7.5 years old he is in amazing helath. Raw chicken has the right fat profile for a dog, and is 1000% better than kibble.
Thanks for making this, very interesting! I've wanted to see a real example of a carnivore pet diet for awhile now. I recently transitioned my cats to a canned, mostly meat food and my tom cat started dropping weight like CRAZY and acting like a kitten again!!! I want to try the dogs next....just haven't been that brave yet.
Glad it was helpful!
Thinking a dog can get just chicken quarters every day and it being absolutely healthy is ignorance at best. The whole point of a raw diet is to give the dog a balanced meal.. just chicken quarters is nowhere near being balanced at all.
when i first got my poodles as 12 weeks pup i right away fed them raw meat then switched over to cooked meat with veggies and now im thinking switching them over to carnivore diet.. what type of bones can they eat? they are 5lbs.
can they eat raw food from the grocery store like ground beef, chicken uncooked? they are 8 months old now. how many time you feed your dog? i feed them 1 cup per day but i split it into two meals
My sister found your channel and sent me a link. I’ve been eating carnivore since mid December 2022 and won’t be going back to SAD. I’m feeding my Rover carnivore also! Enjoying your videos!

What if my Cocker has chicken allergies?
Any way to do something similar with a blender?
I have asked this question on other channels and no one has an answer - infact they usually get mad when I ask it. It seems that salmonella doesn't affect the dogs but I worry about when they lick you about what germs now inhabit their mouth. That is holding me back cause all my pets "kiss" me and i sleep with them so Im looking for the answer.
I have never heard of that happening ever. And Duke occasionally licks mouths and has not caused that in my home.
TY@@carnivoresoldier
Dogs lick their butts and eat poop and these things don't seem to hurt so raw food shouldn't either.
So all three of my dogs had thier first carnivore meal tonight.
Nice - watch them though, they will get the runs as their gut microbiome turns over and the get fat adapted 😜
Do you add or do anything besides the chicken
My dogs love cooked gizzards and hearts. I’ve never thought of feeding it to them raw.
I’ll try to ground it up raw in my food processor and see how they like it before I buy a grinder.
Should I mix in chicken thighs skin and all?
I also dehydrate thin slices of beef round steak and beef liver to make jerky for them. They eat it up. I give it to them in small amounts as a treat.
Nice! Raw meat is the natural state dogs eat meat in the wild.
Depends on the animals size, I started my pup with turkey necks, he learned to chew them. Also chicken feet are great for smaller dogs, nails and all!
@@seanlaskey2873 thanks, I have started feeding them cooked and dehydrated chicken feet they love them. My wired hair terrier has a delicate tummy he can’t eat raw it gives him severe diarrhea.
Stick to the raw, the squirts are part of the adaptation process, just like carnivore with people
I'm not not seeing the grinder link help lol
Do you use beef also for your dog?
Not typically as it has too much fat. Dogs require much less in their diet than we do. Poultry is just about the perfect blend for them. I do feed freezer burned meats to him occasioanlly as I hate to waste it and it is completely safe to eat.
Thanks brother! -JT

Thanks!
This is awesome. I wish I knew better when I had my rotti and malenois before I was carnivore. My pups would have been so much healthier.
Do you cook the dog's food?
No, he eats it raw. This way of eating is the traditional PMR (Prey Model Raw) diet. It is how dogs eat in the wild, as nature intended. Thanks for the comment. I do the same, but whatever I find on discount. Pork shoulder when it’s cheap, I add raw sardines too! When you grind, you want the chicken almost frozen and the grinder parts just as cold, it grinds better. I put it all in the freezer a couple hours before I grind.
Great video, keep it going!❤

Did that chicken have bones? The grinder is able to grind up bones?
Yes, 3/4 HP grinder. There is a link to that grinder on my website www.carnivoresoldier.com
@carnivoresoldier you're awesome, thank you for replying. And thanks for your service, I was in the navy for 4 years. Got out in 21, right now I'm in the process of going in on the reserve side.
Awesome. Please reach out to my at carnivoresoldier@gmail.com. I like to keep in direct contact with my fellow veterans and first responders.
Great I’ll be raising rabbits and quail soon I can get beef fat at the meat market.
are you guys using boneless chicken thighs and grinding the bones also or is it boneless? I'm thinking of doing the same thing but not sure about the bones. I feel like it would be good for the dogs to get some of the bones as well but ground up.
I grind the bones wit the legs. Dogs in the wild eat the bones with the meat. It will not hurt your dog.
@@carnivoresoldier also meant to ask do you feed it raw or are you cooking it? Assuming raw. I currently feed them raw ground beef.
When you first started out did he deal with any diarrhea or constipation or any other temporary issues
Yes loose bowels for several weeks as his gut biome adjusted. Just like us! Make sure they have plenty of water during the transition
Thank you
I've been feeding my dogs and cats raw for 20 years. You got a good start going, but you need to throw in some organs like liver, heart kidney because there's etc. And some other variety. That machine can probably handle pork ribs. Maybe turkey wings. Sardines and mackerel are good. Some raw eggs now and then.
I agree with you, I add chicken hearts or raw eggs occasionally
Trying to get my dogs on raw. Chicken leg quarters are 30% bone. Isn’t that too much bone then? (Supposed to be 80/10/10 - meat, bone, organ) Thanks in advance
@@AmyPigula are you going for PMR which is basically carnivore? if so, here is another ratio that you can use. It basically comes out to the same as 80 1010 but it’s easier to figure out with raw meaty bones. 50% raw meat bone without the meat removed such as leg quarters, 30% meat without bone such as ground beef, 5% liver, 5% kidney, 10% muscular organs, such as heart and gizzard. that last 10% could also be other organs like spleen, brain, ovaries, or testicles, sweetbreads, etc. you can run this all through a grinder or you can make a mix of the other stuff and throw in raw meat bones. It makes DIY very very easy. and it’s a whole Lotta easier than trying to figure out different percentages of bone with different raw meaty bones.
@@nogames8982 Okay, that makes sense. I like that diet as it gives them a variety of proteins each meal, which is the key. Also diversity in protein is, I believe, a huge factor in avoiding allergies. So this is not too much organ meat at 20%?
Is the machine hard to clean . You don’t cook his meat ?
Yes, an Amazon afilliate link tothe grinder is on my web page www.carnivoresoldier.com. It is very easy to clean. I recommend the 3/4 HP version of the grinder.
@@carnivoresoldier. Thank you and thank you for your service!☦️🇺🇸🫡
No, dogs in the wild eat raw meat whenever they make a kill. This is called a PMR (Prey Model Raw) diet. Here is a link to a dog food calculateor www.rawdogfoodcalculator.com/
I know of schnauzer breeders that only feed their dogs this way. Probably far better than kibble
Do you just do chicken or do you alternate, also do you do organ meat and any supplements? Thanks for the video I have 2 labs and only 1 will eat the raw (am ordering raw kfed pmr} mostly beef.
I only do chicken, but add occasional chicken hearts or eggs to his meals. The fat profile for dogs from chicken is better. They do not need the fat content that we do, so beef has a bit too much according to the PMR calculator linked in the video description.
I use beef for my dogs since chicken is the 2nd most allergic item for dogs after corn
My dog was supposedly allergic to chicken kibble, but when eating real chicken he has no apparent allergies. Just as my allergies when away when I went on the carnivore diet. Thanks for your comment and viewership!
My dog is a wheaten terrier and supposedly are chicken intolerant, he had some dog food preserved in chicken fat and had diarrhea for 3 days.
Wonder what would be a good and affordable beef alternative. I may try the chicken.
@royalthomestead my Jack Russell could not eat chicken. It was because of her I started making dog food.
@@tinamachado2466she tolerates the raw chicken?
@royalthomestead I never gave her raw chicken. I have not given my dogs now raw chicken as I don't want them to leave our property to go get chickens on their own
Why is it healthier for dogs to eat grind meat? i was under the impression that when they need to rip the cut to pieces gives them mental stimulation and its more nature like. I know in Europe there are places who sell whole birds with feathers and all to because it is believed whole pray like nature is the healthiest.
I only grind to protect my dog from bloat. Someone I knew had a large breed dog and initilly served him full quarters, her dog swallowed a huge chunk of a quarter without shewing it and got bloat, resulting in emergency surgery to save its life. I have already loast a dog to bloat in the past and don't want to repeat.
Thank you for the video! You only use chicken? I’ve been wanting to do this for so long, but I have been worried about making sure my dog was getting a balanced diet. Also, how much would you give for a 20lb dog? Thanks again!
Yes only chicken. There are some calculators online you can reference to start with and then dial the amount in as you start the diet and your dog adjusts. The ounces to feed your dog are in the "Total Amount" in the top right. www.rawdogfoodcalculator.com/
@@carnivoresoldierIsn't chicken a little lean to have on its own every day?
Not if it’s leg quarters inly.. with skin
you do need to vary the proteins to ensure it is a balanced diet. Dr. Karen Becker on youtube tells all about it
@@baconegger1450 she also believes in feeding them veggies and such so not really an appropriate ancestral canine diet and she pushes paying for her advice on a specific “meal plan” for your particular dog…again, for a small fee of course. It’s too bad wolves in the wild didn’t have her professional advice back in the day.
I really liked your video. Ive been wanting to change my 3 dogs over to a raw diet. What i have read has scared me to the point I'm afraid i will be actively killing my dog by leaving out some remote nutrient or mineral that is essential to my dogs health. Duke looks perfect. Do you have any such worries? I would appreciate some reassurance that I won't be hurting my belived dogs if i change their food. Common sense says it has to be better than kibble!

Thank you for the video I started my dogs on carnivore. I wanted to share some information I came across. I saw an interview on Dr. Shawn Baker with Dr. Ian Billinghurst a Veterinarian. He shared some foods that needs to be added to raw like organs, kidneys, liver, heart or pancreas. I watched the Raw Dog Food Summit Dr. Billinghurst shared
on his you tube channel. It’s very easy to understand and to make sure the dogs are getting what they need. Thought you might find it informative. Thanks for all you do.

This was exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for getting right to the point and staying on topic. So excited to start this for my dogs.
You are so welcome!
So you only feed your dog chicken? How about ground beef?
No ground beef - dogs in the wild usually eat smaller animals like brids, rabbits, voles, moles, etc. Leaner meats as they do not have the brain requirements we have so they need leaner meats.
Thank you. Makes sense. @@carnivoresoldier

How do I know how much to feed my dog? I have 2 Jack Russell Terriers. Each weighs 25#. We adopted them 2 years ago. They are 12 yrs. old. When we got them, the male had digestive issues and hemmorroids. I felt so bad for him. The vet put him on Rx kibble. It cleared him up. My female has thyroid issues. Sine watching carnivore videos, I've been slowly transitioning them off kibble to wet canned dog meat. It caused diarrhea and stomach upset, so I backed off. Still attempting to continue. I'm wondering if they would eat the raw, since they are older. I want them to eat well too.
There is a link the video description to the web page I recommend for determining how much to feed them. Diarreah is normal during the transition, just as it is for us. What about iodine? I found out that iodine is necessary for food animals and pets.
I'm going to have to save for a grinder. He is a glutton. Lol. Everything had to be small and in a slow feeder bowl or he will choke himself. 😂
I'm wondering if maybe a can of sardines for iodine in the mix?
Did you switch from kibble to raw homemade food? How did you transition? Keep in mind that my vet told me that Miniature Schnauzers don't need a reason to ummmmm heave, upchuck. I've transitioned him to some kibble with cooked meat. I toss some beef and chicken together for him.
Yeah with Duke I just cut over 100%. He had loose stool for a few weeks, but had never looked back. I'm sure iodine won't jurt but I never use it. I do occasionally crack an egg or add chicken hearts to his food.
How is your mini schnauzer doing with the added meat in his diet? I'm thinking of starting mine on it soon. He's 6 years old and in good health besides the periodic vomiting you mentioned, as well as we sometimes find a little ball of mostly dried poop in his bed in the morning.
