my dog is on duck, beef
Plus a combination of Turkey salmon and
Lamb plus fruits and veggies plus regular vitamin every day
I have a long drive to Highland also and use the front door. 🤔maybe if I use the side door I can get some tails as well. Now I want to go buy a grinder and make my own instead of buying the cubes. Gonna pass on the eyeballs tho. Highland is such a treasure 🤗 great video, thank-you

This is raw feeding done correct.. im so tired of bloggers that only feeds muscles and veggies (and some minerals and vitamins that are synthetic 🙄🙄) then wondering why they have to walk in with an animal that got kidney stone or any other organ stones.

I'm pretty sure she made it up from common sense. She just figured out what percentage of the organ meats in the animal.

Dana, why do you freeze in a large container and not in portions? How do you manage this quantity once it defrosts? Great video btw. I loved every minute and re-watching it.
Dana feeds 5 awesome labs, so it's easier for her to freeze in big batches as she goes through it faster. You can absolutely freeze in portion sizes for your dog!

Not just mercury, but dioxin, PCBs and other heavy metals. Not to mention that any fishing is not sustainable.
This was fantastic!! I would love your opinion on feeding fur as well. Do you recommend it like rabbit ears, cow ears? Locally sourced and freeze dried.
It's really hard to get enough manganese into dogs if you want to meet AAFCO minimums. But fur and especially feathers are really rich in manganese ... however, they're not all that digestible either. Personally, I like fur and feathers and I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid them!
also could you tell me what kind/brand are the metal containers used to catch and hold the meat grinds? Thanks!
Those are just steam trays. You can get them at any restaurant supply store.
I'm 1:26 seconds into the video and this has been the best advice I've gotten so far on feeding a dog Raw food. I will keep watching and see what you say about vegetables. No vegetables on prey.

Hi! Great video! Is green tripe an organ or muscle? So since you ground all organs up, isn't it important to know % of liver to other organs? And then after muscle meat and organs are mixed (in what % muscle to organ?) how much do you feed per day based on dogs weight? I have a 14 month old female , intact, working line GSD that weighs 75 pounds. Thank you!

Green tripe is a muscle.
Once everything is ground up you are able to prepare meals based on that percentage :)
Dogs should eat 2-3% of their weight per day. Just monitor to make sure they aren't losing or gaining too much and adjust accordingly.

I’ve always been scared of feeding a whole fish as I’m afraid the needle like bones will get stuck somewhere in their mouths or throat. Any suggestions?
I mean if you feed 80/10/10 you should add those non secreting organs like heart and lung as part of your muscle content and not as organ, but yes you’re correct overall they are still very important!
What percent of each organ should be used?
I don't feed raw I cook my dogs food and have been removing the skin, what do you suggest?

What about keeping my low content wolf dog’s (other is Husky, Malamute, GSD, & Samoyed) teeth cleaned, especially the back teeth? I know bones help but it’s not keeping her very back teeth from having build up & starting to get bad. She’s 62LBS & 6.5 yrs old.
You could try turkey necks, bully sticks or brushing to get to the back teeth!
I'm gagging watching this. I know you are right about all this but even if I could source all these organs I can't stomach it. So, the happy in between at my house is to use grinds from Viva Raw that contain the muscle meat, heart, liver and in the beef blend, also kidney. So two secreting organs. I alternate with various, human grade, commercial, freeze dried raw complete diets and home cooked recipes. To try to make up for missing nutrients in this compromised, raw diet, my dogs get sunny side up eggs once or twice a week, canned Sockeye salmon (skin and bones included packed in water) or canned Sardines once a week and goat cheese. I also use some supplements from your company, Four Leaf Rover and from Karen Becker's company, Bark and Whiskers. Not as nutritious as a full ungulate, raw, prey model diet as discussed in this video but a plan that I can manage to stick with.

You need to wait until it is a little thawed :)
Gene, I have six large dogs. That big block lasts only 2 or 3 days so that's why I freeze that amount. You can find a smaller container.
What grinder are you using? And you recommend it or do you recommend a different one?
That's a 1.5hp from Cabela's. Does a great job, I've had it for years.
What can the average person do who does not have a grinder? Buy some parts and just dice them to add in to commercial raw?

I just found this video, Thank you very much, Question if i may. I have a 9 year old lab mix from a rescue center. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old. Just recently we notices his liver enzymes were rising and listed as high. According to your video, feed liver for liver. he weigh 75 lbs, How much live would you recommend or is the standard 2-4 % of body weight enough liver. I have only been doing raw for a short time and this is what my numbers are: 50%Boneless meat, 25 muscular organs, 11% raw meaty bones, 7% 2nd secreting organ and 2-4 % liver. That is actually about 37% organs. Id that too much and how much liver should i feed. Thanks in advance for your help. Keep up the great work

so if my dog eats a whole fish he basically gets what he needs then with regards to organs? I usually use a small fish, not tiny like a small porgie. i can get liver and gizzards and kidney and cleaned tripe. Kidney makes my dogs pee a lot so I have to give in small amounts. Tx. Wow thanks, I will increase chicken necks for me to help my thryroid.The only thing I can find and afford is walmart and a local food store, sadly its at least a step better than kibble. Trying to work the butcher thing out, hope to find that after covid. We do codliver oil and squid oil, seems to help a lot, the issue is our waters are so high in mercury.

A fish won't replace organs, no. But it's a good way to get brain, eyeballs and other hard-to-get organs into your dog. Try Green Lipped Mussel oil instead of fish or squid ... it's cleaner and it's in a more useable form.

My dog doesn't like raw kidney or liver. Even mixed in with muscle meat. I haven't tried any of the other organs yet but I have a feeling it's going to be the same outcome. If I cook it he loves them. Is that an option?
You could try freeze dried organs. Cooking can kill off some of the benefits of organ meats. You could also lightly cook them and feed them and cook them less and less until he gets used to them!

How bad is it to feed your dog organ meat that isn't grass-fed? I can't afford grass-fed for myself never mind for my dog.
My dog hates livers and gizzards/hearts. Gonna try eyes and brains and other parts.

@@tolamyb35d Try flash frying them, that often does the trick. Or you can be freeze-dried organs and them you'll only have to give a small amount. Good luck!

Why do you buy veal brain and veal tail instead of adult cow?
Availability can often be a factor. Veal tails are smaller and easier to chew then adults as well!
it would be great if i could afford to feed my dog raw food all the time, but with my income we are lucky enough for an egg a day.

Just add a small amount at first, you just have to build it up slowly.
You kind of contradict yourself by saying 25% of an animal is organs so you should feed your dog 25% organ. Then you say you don't feed much fat to your dogs, yet a large percentage of the prey animal is fat is it not?
It really depends on the protein you are feeding. For example, rabbit, elk, venison, etc are very very lean meats!
