For people who want to know how big aperture really is(without this mod), the whole facility is built inside a salt mine, some of which can be miles deep and wide.
I think in some places, in the older parts of the lab theres some posters showing how deep it is, i think around the spheres section of the game. And it might go even deeper...
I used to work overnights on pretty large campus used by a tech company, and I wasn't allowed to be in my area alone at night for fear of an accident or some piece of machinery falling on me and not being able to get help so they told me to just explore the campus when i finished my tasks, this does a really good job at encapsulating the weird feeling of empty industrial and work spaces

Aperture Labs are probably in a state of constant change and reformation thanks to GLADos, we don't actually know how long it's been. It's interesting to imagine the actual scale of the labs, how much of their freedom and security they relinquished to automation in the name of progress. Portal 2 and Desk Job solidified my thoughts that Aperture Science is like "Buy n' Large" from Wall-E. An omnipresent and all encompassing super corporation that rotted from the inside out.

Honestly, i would love to see a full aperture science. You could walk for hours on one of hundreds of levels, thousands of chambers, and enitre eras of architecture. Considering its sheer size, i would imagine that if it was in our world, people would get lost trying to film it in its entirety.
what’s always been wild to me is, like this, there are parts of the facility even GLaDOS can’t reach without outside help. the co-op proves that much. there were hundreds, potentially thousands, of embalmed subjects in cryosleep that she knew were there, she just couldn’t access them. now, consider what she DOES have access to, and how big that area alone is. i’ve always appreciated that the elevators in Portal seem ambiguous as to whether they’re moving up or down, and in the first few chapters of P2 they’re _always_ moving down. Rattman says in the comic that the place is like cancer, building itself out of itself. the whole building (if you can even call it that) is a physical philosophical anomaly. anyway. Aperture is fucking massive. definitely have to check out this mod
Dont forget it's cannon that it's also a interdimensional empire so any fan made lore instantly becomes cannon cause of the interdimensional empire part (yes it's actually said somewhere in offical games that they reach into other dimensions)
And btw about the elevators, in the Portal Stories: Mel mod it's shown that the elevators can change "tracks" in between movement. Also the fact that everything in Aperture can be moved by rails and that chambers are usually made out of panels which can also be moved everywhere, hell even GLaDOS' chamber is made out of panels in Portal 2 (after Chell wakes her up)
the cut song “Say Apple” is awesome to me because it conveys perfectly through tone just what Aperture is. it moves up and down and sideways and diagonally. you can never place quite where you’re headed, you just know you’re not going to be leaving anytime soon
And i know its just bc theres no code for it and itd have to be added inentionally, but we have to take lore at face value. The fact there isnt any pests in the forms of birds bats or even insects anywhere is so creepy to me bc that implies robots probably keep it incredibly sterile inside and kill anything they come across.

They ARE crows so maybe it's implying that crows are super intelligent in the half life universe and know how to survive crazy shit idk
