Eric playing on New Years eve. Everybody there drinking & Eric , sober as a judge ! I give Eric a lot of credit ! 30 + years clean & sober. Congrads to you Eric !!
This is the dumbest comment I've ever read.... Elvis, jerry lee, chuck, bo diddly, muddy waters were all mainstream artists!!!! Blues and rock and roll were the biggest thing !!! How would it have been forgotten!! Damn you're stupid
@@x-rayvision3802 Please let us not forget Stevie Ray Vaughn... in my opinion the most virtuosic electric blues player to grace our planet? Ah... BB King, Albert King, Freddie King? Yes, however, he never did use any pedals to boost his sound when playing live. This particular strat seems to do without the boost circuit EC normally uses to crank things up, so the sound stays pretty clean even with the volume full on!

I agree with Jools, Eric is my favourite guitarist. Great band and excellent piano playing from Jools. Thanks , I will be returning to this again I am sure.
Little bit harsh with Mark Flanagan standing there, who has only loyally supported Jools through thick and thin, and who played flawless rhythm guitar through the ensuing number... maybe 'My favourite GUEST guitarist....'?
This video also shows just what a naturally GREAT musician is Jools; people forget that;s what he really does. His side gig as a kindly, nerdy, squarish/oddball TV presenter/host is only just that: a side gig. He's a great musician.
Thanks for sharing The first time ever we saw Eric Clapton live @ Hyde Park 2018, and quality time / weekend in Londen with my 2 children. After more than a week this event it still makes a big impression, Can you believe it. have waited for this event for 18 years. The waiting was well worth it.

"Sessions for Robert J." and "Me and Mr. Johnson" are by far my favorite Clapton's albums, and possibly most favorite blues recordings of all times. And I *DO* love some other of his albums very much ("From the Cradle", "Another Ticket", the two J. J. Cale albums...).
Javi G, thanks for mentioning Derek & Dominos, never heard of them before. Typical early Clapton, I guess (complete with poor recording quality). I never realized Layla is such an old song!
Clapton has nothing more to prove.. I don't care if he belts out those 10 minute solo which are more or less the same...He is still God! and he can never go wrong!
It's always been about El Clappo's extraordinary style, tone and touch to me, how he plays not what he plays. But that is true of most of the great Blues players eg BB King.

Absolutely and totally agree .. Clapton is god .. This is clapton at his best .. He is getting better with age .. And he looks fantastic . Great to see him playing a tribute brownie again
@petticlone Thank you so much for defending my post. I really do appreciate it. And to streetender1878 - come on, man. We just really love guitars. No one's showing off. But, also, thanks for watching this video. It is really an amazing post, and I'm so grateful we get to see Clapton so intimately while playing such sincere and authentic blues straight through his Strat to the amp. It's a rare purity.
Because it looks like a"made-yesterday" guitar, the thing is all new and shiny, body and neck and has no wear at all, except for a few ("factory made") fretboard wear marks on the first few frets - which is typical from "light relic" Fender jobs. If those were real marks, you would see them all over the neck, since Clapton loves playing A and C minor pentatonic positions.
Maarten de Vries Probably just not enough volume on the amp - and since he isn't using his usual mid-boosted strat setup he doesn't have enough boost hitting the amp.
Eddie Cochran played milkcow blues live 1960 here in the uk. B B King once said he met Eddie in LA and he was the best white blues player around . So before all these bands appeared Eddie had done it already . Please check out Eddie liive Milcow blues . Love Ed and Eric . Lets face it without the Americans the UK didnt have anything . Look at the great guitarist and piano players from the states
@PindamonhaMAN I own a '56 myself, and the thin line is the bleed in-from the yellow nitro to the black nitro. It is actually a brown that appears red. On a superb finish, you get this wonderful bleed-in instead of an abrupt contrast. Also, it would be very unlikely that Clapton would play 56s and 57s for most of his life to play a 58 or an early 59 now, which is the only time frame in which a Strat with all of the other features, especially the maple v-neck, would be available in 3-tone.
@petticlone you can tell from a few slightly back-angled shots that it is not a fender custom shop guitar. If it is, then he had them intentionally omit the custom shop logos from the back of the headstock (doubtful). I can tell that the fingerboard radius is 7.25, as are the frets are vintage. The neck is only slightly worn, though the finish has attained that wonderful dulled texture. Active, low output pickups. 2-tone sunburst. A bit thicker soft V neck. 6 pivot bridge. Most likely a '56.
This was before the brownie tribute and I think after he sold the real one (there isn't enough wear on the neck anyway) it is probably a custom shop 57 or 56 reissue or it could be a genuine 50s strat that is in insanely good condition
In the brownie GC vid he did say when he was touring the states that he bought 4-5 at the time in multiple pawn shops it wouldn't be a surprise if he has a bunch of pre CBS strats lying around
Not brownie. But I'm sure he has a few vintage strats that don't see much time played live. I think he has some sort of arrangement with Fender.. In the U.S. live he uses signature strat with what ever amp they've made for him to promote...twin..grandmaster..etc. But in the UK its whatever he wants
First Class Horns on Little Queen of Spades, what a nice touch!!

When Eric starts playing, people start listening
No pedals, just dimed the volume before his solo, a flick of the wrist just like the old days. Brilliant.

The real story here is that Bluesbreaker combo back there! Cooooool!
I agree! There's another amp next to it- wonder if he was using them both simultaneously?
Maarten de Vries The other one looks like a tweed Deluxe - smaller than his usual tweed twin, perhaps to aid in breaking up at a lower volume.
Yes. However, EC's tone is pretty clean- not much breaking up to be heard... maybe the Fender was just a backup?
