...you all do know it’s fine that you loved the show and I didn’t right? It’s fine to disagree on a show. Also as I said, the show isn’t terrible but it also isn’t incredible.
I found this show fit nicely into the niche of shows I watch on monitor 2 while I do something that requires only partial attention on monitor 1.
I loved the show because I like the satirical type comedy it has. However I don't care if other people like it or not, and I don't understand why people get angry if you don't like a show.
Edit: your video made me remember all of the shitty parts of the show so now it's just mediocre to me
Gods forbid! A different opinion!! THE HORROR!!! 😱
I think your analysis matched the same type of "wtf am I watching" thought process that I would have had. Except, your video saved me from having to suffer through watching bad TV. I'm glad I watched.
You're wrong and you're entitled to your wrong opinion
Why are white girls in adventure shows named "Sam" ALL THE TIME.
Its hip
OR JESSIE
@Gmoney 12 when I think Sam I think blonde
𝙾𝚛 '𝙰𝚕𝚎𝚡'
Cause its a "tomboyish" name. Can be girly and actiony
He has Canadian survival skills
Why do I not have access to these skills
Didn't drink enough maple syrup?
More maple syrup ,opens up the skill tree eventually no worries
Lone Boomkin I was about to make that joke 🤣
@@user-fq4hj8yv2z I'll drink a few more gallons
Maple syrup. Also (and mostly) clubbing baby seals, and eating seal brains. It's the pastime Canadians rarely talk about, but yeah, we love clubbing baby seals and eating their fat juicy brains.
I hated Daybreak, not because of the show but they filmed it at my school and it was stupid they got mad at students for going to school on a school day.
that’s really messed up lol
Wtf they didnt stop school for a day lol
No They Didn’t They Cant Do That
Catt D lol
What school is it?
There's definitely some good ideas in there. I especially like the idea of zombies repeating the last thing they were thinking, that's very unsettling
Or like she said do more with wesley that could actually go somewhere
Movies like this are the worst good ideas with poor presentation
you could have gone so far with that idea but they all just had “discount sweatpants” plastered on their forehead
it could have been so unsettling if they found an adult that someone cares about and the last thing they were thinking was something about said person
heres an example
the gang is wandering around the wasteland and they get caught in a zombie horde
all of the others are fighting the zombies but [insert literally any main character here] is petrified looking at a zombie
all the others are shouting at them and then they look over at the zombie and its muttering the characters name over and over again
they realize it is that characters mother/father
THAT would be an interesting scene that would make that unnecessary detail
something deliberate and horrifying
If you read the manga "I Am a Hero" you'll see that very concept was done there first. It's a verry good read if you love weird zombies taking place in Japan
"I Am A Hero" did it first
Just imagine a zombie running at you screaming "my lord and savior jesus christ, hear my prayer and let me rejoin you in heaven!!"
This show was supposed to be like a “woke” high school zombie thing yet they made Mona Lisa just the subservient, stereotypical angry black girl.. that was her role the ENTIRE show
Jaden Oh yeah. She was just crazy for no reason. I think they planned to flesh her out if they had another season to maybe explain why she is the way she is.
Isn’t the “angry black girl” character not supposed to subservient? The stereotype goes for quite the opposite actually.
@@ioncekilledamanwithmyshoe she some how manages to be both. She has to be subservient to turbo for most of it but gets randomly pissed off at everyone else.
And apparently the whole incel dynamic which seems to be core to the show.
No no no, theyre empowering these people by "reclaiming" stereotypes, and wearing them as badges of honor. Just like their favorite heroes, Snowflake and Safespace. 😂🤮
Wes the gay samurai pacifist. This is the greatest thing I've ever heard in my life holy shit
He was a goddamn misopportunity, like imagine a story about a gay pacifist samurai that’s trying to redeem himself in a zombie apocalypse. That shit would’ve been lit, but nah. Here’s a dumb romance between miss perfect and incel boy
Everyone's like Netflix is pushing the gay agenda and I'm like if they really were he would have been the focus of the show and it would have been an in arguably better show. Netflix is being stupid all the time, but currently especially about gay people, but that star-crossed lovers story deserved to be the show. Because each character was actually a great character that deserved a greater look at their character development so the individuals themselves were great and then also the Star-Crossed lovers story mixed with an apocalypse is just so good
@@sunwukong3108 Most homosexual relationships in Ancient Japan took the form of pedastry, and it's a bit more complicated than that. The practice in Japan was similar to that of Ancient Greece. Basically, young (teenage or even prepubescent) boys in relationships with older men, with the idea being the younger male was fulfilling a submissive/feminine/mentee 'role' and the older man a dominant/masculine/mentor role. Being 'bottom' in a relationship was viewed as highly emasculating and adult men were not seen as acceptable partners for other adult men, in a way we'd now consider to be pretty homophobic (the best analogue is how male-on-male sex in prison is talked about).
So...yeah...kinda pretty paedophilic and homophobic. Sexuality was something do you did, not something you were, so even describing people as gay or straight is a bit anachronistic.
That sounds like something a tumblr user would come up with
bruh imagine being gay
When adults write teen shows/movies, I always pretend it's a satire. I live by that.
I think I will follow this path of life as well
Adults write everything
It suddenly becomes a comedy when the teens open their mouths and it's 100% cringe and or trendy topics from 2 years ago.
That’s a healthy hill to die on. I’ll join you
That felt right when I started watching this show.
Ok but like... the mother-daughter bond between Angelica and Ms. crumble made me very emotional
That was such a good part of the show honestly
that was the only part of the show i loved
That's the reason why I continue watching it
The stuff with Wesley and Turbo sounds fucking awesome. I would watch that show. A pacifist samurai whose ex is a psychotic mute gang leader. They love each other but can never be together. Give me that show.
oh I agree
After I watched the full series, I noted which episodes they had their best scenes in and basically just rewatched those a few times before moving onto the next show lol 😅 I also read some decent fanfic about them, but there's not much going 😞 can't imagine why 🤔
It's a decent show I mean considering Netflix usually goes one out of 10 when it comes to good shows I'm surprised they did this well

the kids in these types of shows NEVER mourn its so strange
Which would work if it was campier and more self aware rather than being Mad Max Riverdale
Agree, but this show literally spent an entire episode to show how the death of Josh's dad really affected him and his relationship with Sam
@@sonicbelmont300 kind of like Scream Queens, the show was campy enugh to get away with it
Ivy Wolk um,if you were in a situation like this-you'd have to (no offence) probably mourn on YOUR downtime, even with all the post-apocolyptic survival shiztski you gotta go through and all,no lie dammit..
@@sharonspears-mandeville2369 what? i think what you're trying to say is you would mourn on your own time and not in front of people. even with that, don't you think that at least ONE of these kids would have some type of breakdown? we literally never see any of these kids cry over their dead parents (in front of people or on their own time) even though none of them hold any reasonable grudge against parents. it seems like a major aspect that was overlooked.
One of my professors in college was the artist who made the graphic novel this was based on! The book is literally nothing like the show. It’s a story in first-person view where the reader is the main character and a one-armed character helps them in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. It’s a good read and it was nominated for an Eisner award. Highly recommend

Yeah. I actually really really liked it at first and was so hyped about it that it's hard to say that I didn't "loved the show" especially since I binge watched it. The last episodes definitely weren't really there, I remember having a hard time paying attention and I barely remember what happens in them but it's hard to be objective because I really loved it a lot at the start and my lasting impressions of it (especially when there's so much content on Netflix that you just go from one show to the next) is that feeling from the first couple of episodes.
@A G If you're writing a show, and you're not guaranteed to get a second season. Don't write prepared for another season to explain things
Zachary Critten well the writers came out and said they they did believe they were going to get a second season. It came as a random surprise that the show was being canceled. They were even already beginning writing preparations for the second season
This had to be somebody's Walking Dead fan fiction that Netflix found on Wattpad.
It's based on a comic, but it's an even less faithful adaptation than World War Z.
@@ryanhall7607 Oh wow, I didn't know that. Do you know if the graphic novel/comic is any good?
@@mxmissy It's fine. The most unique thing about it is that it's in second person.
I've read fanfics better than this, because they're usually written by teens who know how teens work and talk unlike adults who just throw in random slang

I kinda liked that Josh’s whole motivation was looking for Sam because it’s sort of a criticism of the “damsel in distress” or “girl is the reward for saving the day” kind of thing, but it’s definitely been done better in other places. I’m just saying the fact that he’s been looking for Sam even though they dated for only two weeks is kind of the point, it’s his “quest” (even though it’s unrealistic)
Finally somebody talking about how subpar this show was. I mean, I watched and was entertained by it but, it was like watching something you know is trashy and just accepting it.

I watched one episode. It was the most "how do you do fellow kids?" thing I've ever seen in my life.
Best meme
Especially that Overwatch reference, cause they then show how they seem to have no idea how things like games or the internet work.
Everything is destroyed and yet the internet survived, or at least the part that still allows people to play online shooters and watch vlogs.
And the online shooter/vlog thing really annoys me because they mention they are apparently still playing with people around the world and the vlog videos are uploaded to a site, they clearly still have communication with other survivors and yet not only is it being wasted it's never even brought up as something they could use them for.
Yeaaah... whenever Josh talks it's like that, but later on you don't really feel it
I watched this whole thing and kinda enjoyed it but I HATED Josh so much.

Ned's Declassified Apocalypse Survival Guide.
That's why I loved this show :( so sad it isn't getting a 2th season

Yeah, they were one of my favorite parts of the show.
Basically the best part of the season
Honestly I really liked the twist ending with Sam Dean bc they did a ton of foreshadowing that she had issues with ambition and power, and that's one of the reasons she was a "principal's pet". The entire theme is that Josh couldn't see her flaws, which makes it satisfying when we see how truly power hungry she is. Josh is a self centered asshole who spends the entire series trying to convince the audience that the show is about him, that he's the main character, and the show is so much better if you don't believe him.
Personally Sam kinda annoyed me. Josh may be an asshole but Sam is also kinda annoying. Also we gonna took about how the other kids just bow down to anyone
damn that's the best analogy of this show
Agreed!
The show is a 100 times better without Josh.
The only issue there is about that, is how no one calls out Sam's bullsh*t at the end. The rest of the characters become an unanimous mass that accept her as a leader with no valid reason. No matter how lost they may be at the time, there's way too little they know about Sam at that time to blindly follow her in a survival setting.
40 year olds writing for 20 years playing 14 year olds. It’s a turducken of idiocy.
That's true but in defense of the 20-year olds, you can't take normal teenagers and make them play the parts. There are multiple problems with that, etc.

Oh I watched the first three episodes w my boyfriend and really liked the style of this series!! The post apocalyptic world was so interesting and wesley was the funniest character for me. But I could not make it past the episode where sam asked josh to film her complimenting random classmates in the mall to see their ‘real smile’ or wtv. Like if she was genuinely nice why would she film it? His perception of her as some dream girl was so annoyingggg especially when she was ‘the girl that everyone likes but somehow doesn’t think she fits in and doesn’t care about what anyone thinks’.
Lol yeah and the whole her being a “slut” or sleeping around thing was so ??? Like why her character was so confusing. Like all her actions didn’t seem to connect at all especially the ending
yeah my gf didn't mind but i didn't really like it I saw the errors
in terms of filming it, maybe the motivation is that you can show everyone how happy people get when you compliment them and do something nice for them without reason and how good that feels. it’s like filming yourself giving food and luxuries to poor or homeless people. just because you’re filming it doesn’t mean you’re not doing a nice thing, and it might motivate people to do acts of kindness
she's not like any other girls
Honestly, by the end of the season the stuff that made adult me go "oh God why?" made sense. Definitely a very meh show, but Wesley, Turbo, and the music really made up for it.

The first half of the walking dead was pretty good, but I didn’t like the later seasons. I’m not sure about the comics, though. I assume they are better.

(She's Australian)
Also, I thought the whole "She might fuck the Postmates guy" was less "She's empowered!" and more "She just might be a sociopath..."
And I think that's what you really missed as the underlying arc for Sam. It's not that *now* she's evil, she's always been this way. She didn't actually care about people, she just pretended to. Again, the whole thing with the Postmates guy was (I think) meant to show this. She just likes fucking with people. She likes to twist them around her finger. Her telling Josh he doesn't love her was just a peek of that. "Oh honey, you don't love me. You don't know me, because the image I showed to you was not me. Because I'm a fucking sociopath. Here, let me demonstrate."

I Need A Name I do not know about her episode being useless, but I think her being the worst was the point. She was not what he imagined her to be and showed signs of being “imperfect” before the finale.
She was a manic pixie dream girl but the thing is towards the end of the show she makes it clear that she isn’t who he thinks she is.
I though I don't like Josh the character, I thought that was like the whole point of the show to introduce this typically good white guy simp archetype as an lure and turns out he's incel with hero complex, actually at the same time we did get to see him literally become like this hero that everyone else is admiring which made his downfall better, would've preferred Wesley the protagonist and RZA narrations. Also literally on a cliffhanger like that they were banking on having a season 2 and we could assume that would be to like explore what happened, specifics of character's parents and the immediate fallout. and I do think they coulda used a least had flashbacks to simple empathize on that desensitize to death and the monster apocalypse, like they had American idol maybe explain how it came to be . Overall if it had better consultants for " Gen-z ness" and made this into a cartoon maybe would've it bopped

The “narrator” character changing in some episodes was really good too, and that got skipped over here. I really enjoyed the one episode that starts and suddenly Turbo is just talking (communicating?) at camera and telling his side of the story.
Great potential, some great jokes, some weird choices.
The scene where Gary sings Making Love Out Of Nothing At All is just priceless

That is to bad about Daybreak being canceled as I was really looking forward to season two as it ended on a cliffhanger.
This show had a lot of potential with its premise but ended up with a cw cheesiness. Wesley defo should have been the main character.
The episode with RZA as Wesley's voice was better than the entire show. If that was the only episode most people saw from the show they'd think it was awesome
This show was better than marketed, but definitely not...great. A second season with a perspective shift could have made it really good though.
I was kind of into the idea of their being a second season (even though the twist with Sam was just the absolute worst). Actually, scratch that I was excited. Besides Josh and Sam, I liked a lot of the characters despite the vomit worthy amount of cringe.
Honestly, have Josh get mowed down in a big battle in the first episode of season 2, and have it switch to KJs perspective, she was a much cooler character who had a relatively blank slate. Could've made for an interesting character
Wesley is the best character no contest
And that's sad to say but that's the whole reason I loved this show. They made the "stereotypical" sidekick character being black and gay and made him the most likable, badass and admirable character in the whole show and honestly I really do believe they did it on purpose and I really loved that.
His episode was a masterpiece
Shut up Wesley!

Andriana Holubka what was the line?
I loved this show, it was so unique and hilarious. “Is it La-croix, or la-craaahh...???”
you talked a lot about having actual teens to crosscheck scenes for relatable dialogue, so maybe you'll appreciate the show Skins(UK) for the writers asking teens to feel free to rewrite scene and dialog
maybe you can review it ?
you're telling me there's a character called sam dean in a show where the actor who plays the main character is the same one who played young sam on supernatural
i was wondering where i’d seen him before
Oh shit it is that guy
Yeah, I hate it when characters aren't killed because of plot armor. Like, everyone else is popped left and right, except that one guy because he has to do the thing. So stupid

My problem with daybreak is the same as with 9 out of 10 of other netfix shows:
the first few episodes it's usually fun/interesting/whatever
then the story takes on a blindfold, spins a couple of times and goes of in a random direction only to fall flat on it's face ...
Exactly
I just watched this show, and that experience you have with Netflix shows is what my lady and I call "Netflixing". Literally they hook you with 3 good episodes, then it turns to shit in ways that make you say "WHY!? IT WAS SO GOOD!?" We now ask ourselves "Is this show Netflixing now?" When ever the show just starts tanking out of no where.
No one talked about the golf team... that makes me kinda sad, Gary singing "Love out of nothing at all" brought me to tears ngl.
So he can't talk without blood coming out of his mouth... but making out is totally fine ?
I feel bad for Wes with a mouthful of blood now, ew
Arai eww.. Hope he ain't no hemophiliac though. Ewh.
So after watching the series and asking around I have figured out why turbo can't talk or when he talks his mouth bleeds
So when the bomb dropped turbo was pretty close to the one of the blast zones which explains why turbo's whole right side of his face is burned and completely scratched up and when humans are exposed to a severe amount of radiation it can burn you lungs and a whole fuck ton of vital organs so if my theory is correct turbo can't talk due to severe radiation from when the bomb dropped and when he talks his mouth starts to bleed because the radiation burned his lungs causing his lungs to fill with blood... now since this a TV show he is fine.... however in real life the minute his lungs would fill with blood he would choke to death on his own blood..... this tv show straight up said fuck logic
hahah this makes me think he's just talking into their mouth
@@genericgaming5293 Holy fucking shit
Quality of the show aside, I, for some reason, love the idea of a mall in the post apocalypse. There's something just so fun about that idea
They didn’t do enough with the mall in my opinion but they did do a homecoming dance do over scene
@@SwellEntertainment I know! I wanted more mall and less of the whole Sam drama. In my opinion, it would have been way cooler of a story to see their tribe form and go through growing pains while stuck in the mall
Watch dawn of the dead! It’s a zombie movie that takes place in a mall.
There's another post apocalyptic netflix series called Last Kids on Earth with one. Its also animated if you don't mind. Pretty charming and cool cast though I've not finished it atm
The majority of resident evil retribution takes place in a mall
This show had so much potential, but it felt like something was missing throughout
My wife and I thought it was alot of fun when watching it and wanted a season 2
I watched this and while it didnt hold my interest for most of it. I enjoyed Wesley and Turbo. Wesley would've 100% been a better main character. I wouldve enjoyed the show more without any Sam and Josh. Their "relationship" was never something to root for? So what was it all for? Also KJ and Mona Lisa deserved better. This show had good side characters that were far more interesting than the main character that is all.
Another case of "every one else in the show is more interesting than the main character you're stuck with"
I think they dont mourn their families because the show is set 6 months after the bomb, they probably mourned the first few months but after, they knew they gotta move forward, so they did. Also the Angelica mum thing probably would have been brought up in season 2, it seemed like they were setting things up for later seasons.
I feel like they didn’t abandon the plot lines you were referring to. They just intended on going into it in later seasons
Josh and Sam definitely sound like a high school relationship
Just from what I've seen and heard Josh is basically Ferris Bueller in a zombie apocalypse.
Somehow found Daybreak on my watch list and binged it this week. I really enjoyed it, but everything you said is accurate. Also, I've now found your channel, which looks worth checking out.
Why do I feel this series will be the most stereotypical thing ever
it by Netflix need i say anymore
Rebieroo99 “it by Netflix” is probably something you can use for any context
It is, but it tries to work with those stereotypes. Not very well for most of them, but they tried
No one may have watched Daybreak, but we're definitely watching you
One of my favorite things about Amanda is how aware she is about her being a public figure, she’s super chill but HELLA professional. She knows what she says and does matters and acts accordingly. Props
Can we just get a Wesley focused season two with Josh’s life falling apart as a result of his own stupidity during season one while everyone else thrives in the apocalypse, Kay thanks
Reccomend finishing daybreak. Yea, it could DEFINITELY use some better writing but what I liked about the show is really the twist in end. Because throughout the entire show you're watching it from josh perspective except for that one episode. In the end it revealed everything josh thinks or he is feeling is just him being love blinded by Sam. If they were to have a season 2 i say they need new writers, more background on other character, and hopefully a redemption arc.
I hated the ending 😬 I thought it was so unbelievable and there was no set up to it. kinda just felt like they put it in for the sake of having a shocking ending.
@@fionaxx8645 ikr? ugh :((
"twist"
For like two seconds I saw the ad and thought “I’ll watch this” and then I saw more ads and I thought “nvm”
I'm upset that there's not going to be a second season. Not because I want to watch it I don't even want to watch the first season, I want to make her watch it so she can tell me about it and I can know what happens without having to watch it.
I still don't understand how they have so many plots and they drop so many and somehow resolve so many that they didn't really start, and I do not understand how the Star-Crossed lovers thing was not the entirety of everything so there were some mistakes made, but I want there to be a second season
Hmmm I remember beginning to watch this show, and then exiting immediately as soon as the protagonist began his edgy monologue about how everything sucks
Yep same
I really wanted to like it but couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes of the first episode.
Honestly, I loved the show. It was just so horrible that it was great.
Same I just got bored of it so quickly
Same, although I didn't quite make it to 10 minutes...
I love this hot take from Amanda:
"We, as a society, have surpassed the need for characters..."
I feel like you didn’t talk about Eli enough he was one of my favourite characters and the scene before he dies was pretty good
Her name is Sam Dean? Supernatural wants its two main characters' names back and their grandparents names too.
my dad and i tried to watch the show when it came out because we will watch literally every single zombie movie, but we had to stop 3 episodes in because we literally wanted to claw our eyes out 💀💀 it’s obvious that it wanted to be Ferris Bueller but they did it so horribly it was embarrassing to watch >_
damn
Probably not worth going back because it isn’t, like, amazing but honestly the best stuff is after episode 3.
I thought Mona Lisa was smart for staying in the second seat. She stills get to make all the decisions, because she was making decisions for the group most of the time through Turbo. Then she took down Turbo by enlisting the help of others. Placing Sam on the thrown makes her the target for any bad decisions, especially since Sam doesn't know anything about running the group.
The problem there is that the group accepts Sam, liking someone as a friend is not the same as obeying them and they we're just talking about other plans like a second before she took the throne
The one great thing about this show was the costume design. Turbo's jock thing was badass.
Most of the costumes were really well done, albeit being idiotic to wear during an apocalypse due to functionality. Though, Sam Dean's first outfit genuinely made me cry. She was wearing a goddamn denim overall dress with a brown vest, red lace bra, ADIDAS SOCKS, and worst of all, /FUCKING CHEETAH PRINT BOOTS/. I'm still so angry about that damned outfit it's eating me from the inside out.
@@sluttycowboy Agreed. But still, whoever designed Turbo's look was a genius.
In my head canon Mona Lisa joins Sam on the platform, then immediately punches her in the face, knocking her off.
Josh and Sam are my least favorite characters and they get most of the attention, Josh is a bland characters and Sam is a M’guffin and a Mary Sue for most of it and near end she got so much worse
Everyone else varies from, I love their character (Wesley) to characters that are Meh, but they are not main character so it doesn’t matter (Mona Lisa)
Josh is the worst part of the show yet he's the lead
the moment amanda said "sam dean", i fucking lost it.i haven't watched the show yet and my deepest apologies for bringing cw's supernatural brainrot onto this innocent comment section but damn it. Sam Dean. i can't find an official source on whether it was a cw's supernatural reference or not, but the noise i let out of my mouth when amanda said her name
Wesley and Turbo's romance was the best thing about this show. Wesley 100% should have been the main character.
The SNL bit about The Maze Runner is the perfect satire of YA.
yessssss omg the boomerang ahahah
The Group Hopper.
Nothing like a nice bag.
I did like how they handled some of the mourning. Angelica was in denial, Josh got hooked on finding revenge for Sam, and Turbo ended up becoming even more screwed up and makes him obsessed winning and becoming more powerful than his dad was kind.
Moral of the video: if you want a teenage zombie story featuring an evil school administrator just watch Anna and the Apocalypse
I really liked daybreak. They set it up as a hilariosity at first and I fell right into it.
