I had to stop after the third episode because I felt physically ill watching these guys be like “I was 40 and they were 16, and they moved in with me, and things just happened.” Like, my made up example is not nearly as gross as some of the other things they actually did.
Everyone talked about Carol's sketchy husband, but no one had questions about Tiger King using drugs to lure troubled underage boys into unwanted relationships with him. I lost faith in the general audience over that
@@basicallymid Everyone talked about that. And in perfect internet fashion, they typically phrase it as "why is no one talking about this thing that everyone is talking about."

I don’t know why but this reminded me Chinese manhuas. Those manhuas, especially the ones involving rich CEOs, always involve drugging, rape, abuse, etc. Some of the moms in the stories want their son to get married and have kids. It’s to the point that they’re willing to drug their son and a poor unfortunate lady to get that to happen.
Chinese comics are wild. The Korean ones are always about high school gangs or leveling up, which is why I prefer Japanese manga but now its overly saturated with isekai

If anyone was curious on an update. The GW zoo is effectively closed- On June 1, ownership of the zoo was given to Carol Baskin and Jeff Lowe was given 120 days to vacate. On August 17, the USDA suspended Lowe’s exhibitor license, meaning he could no longer run the zoo. Garvin County Sheriff's Office deputies and USDA officials had reportedly began investigating the zoo after receiving a report that lions were ill, with their ears covered in flies and blood. Of the animals that were onsite, 42 tigers, 4 black bears, 11 wolves and a grizzly are now at the non-profit Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado that takes in abused big carnivores. They have over 600 rescued animals on 10,000 acres.
@Sousa Teuzii The way this was worded was as if the investigation was done while Jeff Lowe was managing the facility but I could have misunderstood that.

It doesn't stop there either, for curses wrongly attributed as Chinese. One of the lesser well-known "Chinese" curses goes along the line of 'May you come to the attention of people in power'.
Something else to consider about the word 'disappearance' on the power of attorney is that this is a guy who made numerous trips to Costa Rica for questionable reasons, (according to Carol) flew a plane illegally and without registering flights, and may have been doing other shady stuff. Most people wouldn't anticipate disappearing, but if you're doing dangerous things and deliberately not leaving a trail to follow to avoid getting caught then disappearing suddenly becomes a lot more likely.
I mean, they reached out to him... looks like they made the right move, millions have seen it and a out of people like the music and now we’ve heard of them. @@jaybee4118 Yeah, it is different than someone trying to get you to sell your work for influence/exposure (I'm not sure what the differences between these are). It's still a bad deal though.
Yeah I absolutely despised this show because it did its very best to portray Joe Exotic, a horrific animal abuser, as a an anti-hero and Carol Baskin as a psychopathic murderer based on... the testimony of said animal abuser and a bitter ex-wife?
The Man: Is an abusive, feckless animal abuser engaging in harrassment of a woman in an outrageous and mocking way. Woman: Is a quite annoying do-gooder who has been called a home-wrecking gold digger by her husband's bitter ex-wife. ... Sadly, I feel like we shouldn't have been all that surprised which one the internet decided to side with.
I mean, I completely agree that Joe is trash, but he's paying for it by being in jail. On the other hand, there's a lot of suspicions on carol for her husband's disappearance. And I personally feel like she's abusing people by making them maintain her zoo for free

I could get transporting a paralyzed animal in a carriage. But the dressing up part? No wonder Trump likes this guy. Objection!: I think calling what Joe runs a “zoo” rather than specifically calling it a roadside zoo or roadside attraction kinda throws accredited zoos under the bus by categorizing them together
Regular zoos are just as abusive to their animals. Animals belong in their natural habitat, not in tiny enclosures at unnatural temperatures and surrounded by gawking people and screaming kids. Ever seen a polar bear in an open enclosure in July? It's heartbreaking.
@@PraiseTheFSMonster so I will agree zoos are problematic yet unfortunately they are increasingly more needed. Accredited zoos generally have a good care for their animals so they do live very full lives as much as possible. They serve as good educational tools for children which again is a good thing for the future. And they provide conservation efforts through their breeding programs that at this point are helping keep the wild animals alive. I wish we didn't have to use them but if we have to do it there are some excellent ones that really are helping the cause for conservation and research.

I've been avoiding this documentary like the plague. When I was a kid, a tiger was running loose in my hometown for a couple of weeks. Keep in mind, this was suburban California. Turns out a couple had moved to my hometown with over a dozen big cats without telling the authorities. They were allowed to keep the cats in their previous home where they could be checked on for the cats' wellbeing, but they didn't have the right equipment or enough space when they moved. The tiger got out and they didn't tell anyone for a week until someone saw it. Then there was a search for it for the next week. It was found one morning getting close to an elementary school and had to be shot because the tranquilizers weren't effective fast enough. The other cats were given to zoos and rescues and I'm pretty sure the couple is still in jail. Just in case anyone was curious I decided to add an article about it. Looking back over it I think I had a couple details incorrect (like how long the tiger was out) www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2005-mar-17-me-tiger17-story.html
one says it took place in the 50s and one says the couple is still in jail... couldn't be the same story then, could it? that's to say, it's probably happened many different times
@@360.Tapestry the one that I grew up with was around 2004. Unfortunatley it's not uncommon for people to get exotic animals as pets and then get overwhelmed by them or mistreat them. I don’t know why but this reminded me Chinese manhuas.
@Sousa Teuzii Carol got the zoo, not the animals. She got the land and property, but Jeff took all the animals to another location

And they provide conservation efforts through their breeding programs that at this point are helping keep the wild animals alive.
I wish we didn't have to use them but if we have to do it there are some excellent ones that really are helping the cause for conservation and research.

When I was a kid, a tiger was running loose in my hometown for a couple of weeks. Keep in mind, this was suburban California.

Eaglets are baby eagles. Is this a reference I'm missing?
@@Warrior_Culture Carole Baskin starts all her videos with "Hey all you cool cats and kittens"
Warrior Culture No, you’re right. A baby eagle is called an eaglet, like a baby duck is called a duckling.
@@Warrior_Culture Yes, what StereotypeNerd said. I was playing on her words since she is a part of this topic.
@@PerdomoCigars Got it. I've never seen the show, I just watch Legal Eagle. Thanks.
this needs to become an official episode of the series on Netflix. and then spin off Real Lawyer Reacts as a Netflix show.
That image of "OKLAHOMA where the wind comes sweeping down the meth!" is absolutely savage and hilarious
"Shut it down. Shut it down," with the "I'm never going to financially recover from this" clip had me rolling 😂.
“Fun Fact: Joe didn’t sing that song!” Yeah, we noticed. There’s a part in the show where Joe is listening to, and singing along with, the song, and they sound nothing alike. The guy on the recording sounds like a pretty traditional, generic country singer, while Joe sounds like Arin Hanson’s impression of Larry the Cable Guy. 🤣
Arin is Joe Exotic, confirmed!
Some of that lip synching was awful.
C o n s u m e Prilosec
Was he lipsynching at the funeral?
ahaha when hes at the funeral "yall my voice is a little broken from crying all day" *proceeds to sing like a shithead for an hour and a half*- I hate to say it but travis lived one of the most embarrassing lives on the planet, imagine killing yourself accidentally and then this asshole shows up to not only ruin your funeral but to further embarrass your memory and your family.
"There's no federal law that says you can't own big cats." Ah yes, the Air Bud statute... I know it well
Ahhhh... America... 🤪
Staff uses he/him pronouns mostly. He said in an interview he wasn’t bothered by people using she/her but just for the record he uses he/him. :)
Personally i think of it more as a respect thing. Yes they might be okay with one pronoun being used but using their chosen pronouns are just more polite

@Brit Jade people who respect other people
By the way, this is still an issue. It's people like Joe Exotic or popular Instagrams that continue to allow people to think exotic predatory cats are "cute". They haven't seen what they can do when they are adults and can readily kill someone. There are reasons why some cats are labeled "man eaters" because humans are easy prey for tigers and lions.
Sadly I think the documentary has just been perceived Hythe masses as such.
It isn't glorifying anything abiut these aninals in captivity. There S no narrative offered.
@zhuull1 I consider that a point in their favor, in fact. It's manly. The memes about guys thinking about how they missed out on owning a pet tiger for 2 grand ain't no joke lol.

I've never seen Tiger King, I never want to see Tiger King, and so far I've avoided everything about Tiger King. And, yet, here this video is on my new video page, and here I am watching... damnit.
Steph P. tbh you wont have to watch it after this and this is gonna be better. the only good person in it tbh is Saff
But Tiger King were awesome!
...Granted, they collectively kicked by Shermans and T-34, but still.
Devin watched it so we don't have to.
I watched it and even if I understand the hype, I feel a bit dirty as a human being now that it's finished. There is something rotten and sad about these people.
@@manonsegur7547 I fully admit that I'm not even a reality TV person (or a tv person in general... I can't remember the last time I've turned the TV on or watched a movie) but even then I don't understand the hype. I guess you can take comfort in that you feel dirty, so you know you're a good person, instead of sympathizing with them?
The wildest part of the whole thing is Carol Baskins husband was FOUND ALIVE and REALLY WAS in Costa Rica! That shits wild but not totally unsurprising. It’s hard to track people down in costs rica they don’t use an address system.

9:15 THE POWER OF ATTORNEY *Sparks shoot from his hands*
UNLIMITED POWER
The power of prosecution is a dark art many thought.... Unnatural.
I have a power of attorney clause in my living will where my disappearance is defined as my functional inability to preform tasks relating to my buisness or personal affairs.
Ie : comatose. Missing (I hike and spend time in the wilderness. This ensures my company can hire what ever needed to look for me using my powers and funds)...
It's a perfectly normal use of a legal premise. Just unusual to have to contemplate for most people.
It's an absolutely appropriate issue to address if you engage in international commerce or even recreational travel to parts of the world where kidnapping or disappearance is even a minor threat. Personally, I've traveled to Africa and parts of South America where that risk is minimal, but real, and in the unlikely case in which I was a victim of such a crime, it makes sense to designate a trustworthy person to handle my business and financial affairs if I am unable to execute such decisions. For me, that person would be my father (since I am not married). Now, in the case of an animal rescue owner who never seems to leave the suburbs of Tampa, umm...?
And we do know the guy liked to fly his plane around... So disappearing is a potential.
@@Dreadnaught1985 Also, he regularly traveled to South America, specifically Costa Rica, and had plans to open a business there. Potential for kidnapping there.
@@VisibilityFoggy
He was a pilot. Granted without licence.
I personally believe he and Carol wanted out but he didn't want a divorce.
So he, Carol and thrblawyer came up woth this convoluted mess that has everyone thinkijg Carol killed him.
And as long as that's the narrative no one is looking for him (husband). So they all get what they want.
The lawyer just seems odd. He is lying when says the clause is unusual. He may be telling the truth about how he never encountered it. But it's a lie that it's unusual legal language.
*walks into coffee shop*
Me: "I'll have a latte!"
Barista: "that'll be $4.50!"
Me: "can I pay for it in publicity? I'm a little short on cash right now..."
Reminds me of some bridezilla (or extra-ordinary imitation of one) who wanted her guests to pay for the wedding, the photographer to work for 'exposition', (meaning the venue was so pretty so he could get some good pictures out of it, which, hint, a good photographer can also get from a spider web), and the gods only know what her brilliant plan about the catering was.
Astonishingly enough, her selfish friends didn't go for it.
So sad. :C
Money, worth the value printed on it. Publicity….Priceless

Oh do a deep dive you'll be flabbergasted why Antle and Joe/Jeff aren't shut down also why they haven't gotten Tim in trouble for running a now illegal business as he no longer has the permits needed to have a open public zoo especially a contact zoo
For real, it makes me sad that people have decided there are heroes and villains in this, there are just a heap of villains and assholes and abused animals in between
Hey! Reinke, Saf, and Erik seem to be good people! But yeah throw the rest of the cast in the trash where they belong.
I think they murdered Saf as an act of transphobic violence. I feel like he was the most redeemable cast member.
Except the tigers

would you consider doing a video on the series "Making a Murderer" I'm sure many of us would be interested in your view on that series/case
YES!!!
as a kid I had the haziest memory of going to a tiger zoo and wandering off before accidentally walking into a tiger feeding interaction and helping feed a tiger. I never watched Tiger King until this video and I have suddenly recognized where I went and that "oh that was real"
I would love it if you can review the people.vs OJ on Netflix. Because honestly there's a part in that show where Johnny Cochran on his legalbasically stage OJ's house before the jury gets to see it and I've always wondered till this day if that's legal or not. great video!
If there's any case where both sides kinda sucked besides the Tiger King thing, it'd be the OJ case.
I mean, Legal Eagle just exposed two instances where the documentary used some pretty sketchy information from a biased source (the the documentary politely forgot to mention was biased)
Stage a crime scene, I wonder...
@Lucy Bubz please, white people just rebranded it. Didn't even make it any better. They just made their slaves a tad further away from them physically. Oh, and they don't enslave people of color only.
And actual LEGAL slavery in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East? Sources please.

@@Nfinittube Yeah but that's a pretty low bar to get over.
I wonder if Carole Baskin could sue the makers of Tiger King for defamation? They’ve definitely made most people think that she killed her husband and I’m sure it’s caused financial and emotional damages.
I cannot unhear "THE POWER OF ATTORNEY" now.
Kept expecting him to shoot lasers out of his hands.
Would love to hear your thoughts on why the hit man was never indicted and on Jeff Lowe's legal troubles.
Also Doc Antle and his rampant workplace sexual harassment / OSHA violations.
This is just my uneducated opinion, but I think that even though he took the money he never went anywhere near Florida so you could establish reasonable doubt that he intended to actually kill Baskin despite taking the money. Might make it harder to make conspiracy charges stick.
@@lukedodson3267 great point. One thought though - if part of the qualifications of conspiracy includes the federal statute about money changing hands and/or crossing state lines, he did both. And if my many hours of watching police procedurals tells me anything, it's that if one party of the conspiracy is guilty, then all parties are.
@@michaelpetersen703 I did some more digging and Glover, the handyman, did provide testimony to the US Attorneys regarding Joe so it's entirely possible he was given immunity in exchange for that.
@@lukedodson3267 NAL but he did go towards Florida (at least ended up in S. Carolina, I think he said he went to Florida at one point but then retracted that). It seems hard to me to say Joe is guilty for giving him the money, but hitman (Allan?) is totally fine after taking the money and driving towards Florida.
One thing you missed about the will.... the witness admitted she lied and was pressured into saying she witnessed Don signing it but she never did. She was an employee or volunteer and scared she would lose her job if she didn't lie.
