  • Learn how to maximize your power on the Concept2 Indoor Rower. Rowing with more intensity doesn't mean put the damper on "10." You'll get more out of your stroke if you focus on maximizing the powerful drive with your legs.
This video shows how to row with more power and explains the relationship between power and stroke rate. You might find this helpful if you feel like you are getting no resistance as you row. You can get great power rowing at a low stroke rate - you don't have to row fast to row with power!
Get more tips on using power, stroke rate, drive and recover to understand your own rowing power by following along with the Concept2 Workout Podcast: www.concept2.c...

Bought one of these the other day at first I thought it was easy but after loads of videos learning proper form it makes massive difference to the intensity of the workout. Really an incredible machine

When i started on the erg 3 years ago... my comfy "sweet spot" was 27 strokes per minute... since then, its fallen to about 19 or 20.
Bottom line... higher stroke rates can be wasteful of energy...
Lower stroke rates combined with good technique will really help preserve precious energy for the DRIVE portion of the stroke... instead of being wasted on moving your body mass during the RECOVERY portion of the stroke. Those small losses can really add up during long pieces.

at the risk of asking a stupid question but is effort against time linear on this machine? and secondly is a lower but more forceful stroke rate more efficient than higher and lighter stroke rate?

No, you will notice a certain “sweet spot” where you can last much longer than with just a couple more watts of effort. The more you row you will find a good speed and force for you. Most of the time lower stroke rates will keep your heartrate down but you might not reach your goal splits.

Since no one has directly answered your question, no, effort vs time is not linear. Just like any distance based endeavor, effort vs time is exponential. As your time goes down, the effort to effect greater reductions in time increases exponentially.

@@rowhsv Like magic find in Diablo 2! The higher your MF, the less benefit you get from adding the same amount.

Her elbows need to go farther back, keep her wrists flat, and bring the bar below her chest keeping the chain in a straight horizontal line.
