    Spectacular performance by an absolute amazing piamist, fantastic composition by a very young Prokofiev. A must see.

    After watching this performance about a zillion times, I finally get it. There are lots of pianists who, with effort, can play the notes Prokofiev wrote, but this genius, this Martha, not only plays but she plays "with" Prokofiev. Her body language is the clue to how much she enjoys what she's doing herself as well as how well she coordinates with the orchestra. I think that's why just about every time I play it, I need Kleenex, the genius is so great.

    I hate it when RUclips add appears in the middle of this master piece by the finest composer, conductor and soloist. Putting adds in between is just so sacrilegious...

    Apart from the fact that every time I hear her play this (or anything by Prokoviev, or anything) I get chills, I am blown away by the way this particular concerto serves as an absolute display cabinet of all of Martha's technical skills, strength, touch, clarity, emotion, sensitivity to the orchestra, and on and on. This short work is art when done by her, and seems a bit less when done by others.

    • @francescoelia.marino
      @francescoelia.marino 5 лет назад +8

      Yes, absolutely. Same thing for me when I hear a piece of Beethoven executed by her. You think notes are notes but no, she can add something more to it and it is not well understood what that something else is. She is just amazing.

    • @prototropo
      @prototropo 3 года назад +2

      And I agree as well. She collaborates so beautifully with the conductor, while other soloists can perform as if they were large, self-contained islands. And with her Magellanic approach, she manages to fashion entire continents out of the piano-which is already the “continent of the orchestra.”

I really Dig Ms Argerich's excellent performance and relaxed style here. I love Rabinovic's Goth Conducting, and how at the end, he's sweating profusely, but Ms.Argerich jumps up, gives him a peck on the cheek and saunters-off Fresh-As-A-Daisy! BRAVO MARTHA ARGERICH!!!!

      +BRUCE MCINTOSH Ah ah I was at that concert, it's in the south of France, in august, that's why Mr Rabinovitch sweats a lot; and as for the cicadas they are truly insanely noisy, but when the music begins you forget them and you just enjoy. The Château de Florans is a magical setting for the piano festival, the only real annoying thing is the massive summer transit of rich and snobs who migrate from Paris posh districts to the Luberon for the occasion !

Her recordings and performances of the Chopin e minor concerto, the Ravel, the Beethoven 1st and 2nd are sans pair and the list could go on and on. As Eduardo Delgado says, "es única."

Jednak to co Pani tu prezentuje na You Tube z koncertu na żywo jest fenomenalne. Ponad czasowe. Gra Pani ten KONCERT w sposób nadzwyczajny. Żaden pianista/tka nie potrafił jeszcze nigdy dać temu dziełu tyle barw, spontanicznej narracji, tyle ciepła zarazem, tyle liryki i tyle, aż tyle temperamentu czasów współczesnych : XXI wieku. The rhapsodic, almost improvisational nature of this most excellent concerto suit Ms Argerich just fine. This, along with her extraordinary performance (also on RUclips) of the Shostakovich No 1 concerto for piano (and trumpet) are as entertaining to watch as they are to listen.
    Though not technically quite as pristine as she can be, she captures the youthful exhuberance of this piece. The "2nd movement"..of sorts...is, IMO one of the composers loveliest, and most evocative scores. The harmonies border on jazz before the 10 minute mark, and that almost "spooky" section at 10:30 has been imitated by several film composers, as much of this entire concerto has. It might be odd to say, but I enjoy this concerto every bit as much as the No 3. In some ways, it is No 3's companion, as is Shostakovitch's kindler and gentler No 2 piano concerto (written for his infant son Maxim) is to the composer's first Piano concerto.
    This is also a VERY fine video, with audio that, through my recording studio Monitors is demonstration worthy in it's balance and musicality.

    Ms. Argerich is a genius at the keyboard. She plays with great feeling and emotion. She has her critics, but believe me as a striving pianist in my youth, it takes a great deal of physical work to perform and make beautiful music. I rate her above Artur Rubenstein, who I heard live in the Hollywood Bowl in my youth, then at Redlands University where I was a piano major. If only it had been Argerich.

      This is nothing, if you haven't heard Prokofiev's 2nd concerto, it is even more fiendishly difficult. Argerich herself won't touch it, I've heard. Prokofiev was a genius, he wrote this while still a student at the Conservatoire and he won the piano competition playing this - his own concerto. It was a case of "mud in your eye!" to most of the teachers who couldn't understand his modernist compositions.

    Of all music written bearing the modern sound is there anything that compares to the piano concertos of Prokofiev ?
    What could be better than that played by the greatest pianist ever recorded ?

      Not True!! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Argerich=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Artur Rubinstein Radu Lupu Vladimir Ashkenazy! More powerful louder than Argerich=Mikhail Pletnev! The second loudest was Lazar Berman! More genius than Argerich=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini Alexei Lubimov Stanislav Igolinski! Argerich not the best genius! Argerich not had the best piano sound! Argerich not the most Powerful! Argerich can not be the greatest!!

    Sergei Prokofiev set about composing his Piano Concerto No. 1 in D-flat major, Op. 10 in 1911 and finished it in 1912. A one-movement concerto, it is the shortest of his five complete piano concertos, lasting only around a quarter of an hour.
    Allegro brioso (7-8 min)
    Andante assai (4-5 min)
    Allegro scherzando (4-5 min)

    What a fascinating and unsettling piece of music. It sounds like what an alien who really wanted to sound like Tchaikovsky would compose. Even at this young age and musically inspired by a known master, Prokofiev just couldn't hide the fact that he was a true and original creative genius.

    I listen to this repeatedly because of the remarkable microphonics which crisply capture elements of wit in both her performance and those of the distinct members of the orchestra that I've not heard in other very good recordings of this piece. Refrained motifs resonate from specific instruments with a clarity as startling as M A's gossamer, richly discordant undulations and sparks.
