Such style and panache. He plays that piano like a young cavalier posturing in front of his lover. Bravo!

Wow. Regardless of your opinion, musically, of this performance, who could not be impressed with the sheer phenomenal energy of this young man. Producing the most incredible level of (technical) virtuosic playing and behaving like it wasn't particularly difficult - effort-wise. I like coming back to this performance simply to feel energized. But it was also well played musically.

It was well played, certainly. The pianist has a phenomenal ability to make the staccato parts more sharply staccato, and the legato parts more legato; he also dared to bring out some of the dissonance in the piece more noticeably than many other pianists. In all of this he brings something quite new to the music -- hard to do with this old warhorse.

Pianist is phenomenal! But why are the very well playing orchestra, conductor and Concerthall not mentioned?

Great performance! Love the way both pianist and orchestra don't bang the shit out of the first movement. It's positively gentle in comparison to many other performances but only gains in grandeur and expression, as a result. Can someone identify the conductor and orchestra for me? Both are very fine!

Everyone talks about how the cadenza in the 1st movement of Concerto no.2 (Prokofiev) is so hard. Though it’s a lot shorter the one in this 3rd movement looks very difficult also

Mr Floristán plays this wonderful concerto as if he wrote it. From the opening, total command of his piece. He is, IMO really inside it, and his rhythmic sense is remarkable. I'll wager he's also some quartet's favorite pianist. Musicianship. That most beautiful..and "mysterious" section, beginning at 10:39 is both...beautiful and mysterious...wonderfully captured by both orchestra (beautifully in tune) and pianist. I love this section. After that...just exciting music making. The cadenza is played with fearless abandon...and superb dynamics. Afine job by the conductor and orchestra. The double basses had lots of "wire-y" tone..exactly what is needed. The audio was 1st rate. I would have liked a view from the pianist right side through to the orchestra. Not enough focus on the pianist and conductor simultaneously. That said...Mr Floristán has wonderful charisma, and the "chops" to back it up. I look forward to a Rachmaninoff 4th (the original version) from him, and perhaps the other 3 someday. Many thanks for posting this video.

One of your points is absolutely precise. He is in total command of this piece. He doesn't 'try' to play it the way he envisions it, he PLAYS IT - commandingly that way. He almost has a dismissive attitude (technically). Many pianists might push on in an attempt to produce a 'commanding' performance, but would fail and it would become obvious (and also tiresome (or tortuous) to watch their attempt. Here, you can watch this repeatedly and still see focused prodigious, pinnacle-level talent.

This pianist is phenomenal and a genuine artist in the best musical sense. As much as I love the Prokofiev concertos, I hope he does not play them too often. Say NO to Bartok! There is no need for him to program all of Liszt's Transcendental Etudes in one concert. I know he can do this. That is not the point.
His mechanical abilities are without question. I just don't want him to destroy his hands and wrists. Once the interossei ligaments become damaged, stretched or torn, there is no going back.

The building up at the end took too long; they held the slow tempo too long before it finally... finally took off. This is an explosive concerto that Prokofiev wrote as his graduation piece. The ending should reflect that youthful exuberance.
