It was incredible to watch this on the quest. To feel like I was in the cave with Sophy - wow! We live in incredible times
@@msmknz I think you need to step outside and get some fresh air. You have a lot of hate inside of you.
wonderful -howaya
sorry to be so annoying but let me tell ye im making headway
we need to update convention centres so imagine if they all link up with this mission progress
space studios
hosting space hotel layouts and mars rover prototypes etc e.s.a the European space agency is funding 50,000 to whoever opens a new arcadia with space
satellite vendors and the whole nine yards but i havnt got the contacts
a maker space
with robotics, a.i showcasing and computer building a random crafts lounge possibly called the crazy alien A.I cafe with perpetual motion marble machines and so on..
a global innovation platform staring the footprint coalition
with global projects and tourguides and displays on clean energy, vertical farming and so on
other concepts range from
parcel drones to robo chefs and lawnmowers to hairdressers to u.v micro herb incubators and artists impressions of med beds with sci fi partician walls you start to build a picture,, possibly key card access to certain zones with sensitive tech
oceanic robotics demos for recycling and gold collecting small submarines
id love a rooftop garden dome with solar water features and violins but that probably a bit down the line
if you can pull this off then youll find me waiting to connect from a convention centre from god knows where but the plan is to connect them all and build more better versions
i just need help with writing this out clearer and as a promotion flyer for recruiting more vendors robots and people lost looking for a mission
go on help me rewrite this wonderful crazy masterpiece lol
i gotta ask, how long does the plastic last for? i saw a documentary on a museum trying to find ways to preserve items from like the 1920's and stuff made from plastic, with things like glasses, and art pieces etc, and apparently its very hard because the plastic degrades over time way quicker than something made from stone or wood or metal, and the plastic begins changing and getting sticky etc. the other thing i saw was someone with a huge action figure collection, and his teenage mutant ninja turtles despite being only 30 years old, if that, the plastic has actually become sticky enough that he can stick them to a wall and they stay there. pieces like these costumes, and even 3D printed artwork, how the heck do you preserve something like that for future generations?
well, this is the first time in my life that i've ever been interested in fashion.
loving these guest spots recently, with so many different and amazing makers, it's really very cool!
I really want to see a sci-fi movie with Sophy Wong as the costume designer. This is the type of futuristic look I could see actually happening.
These were my exact sentiments lol. My mind went straight to X-men
I LOVE Sophy Wong!! She is an absolute gem, and I was so delighted to meet her as a guest at SiliCon this last year! What an amazing maker she is!
That 1st jacket would be great for people who ride motorcycles at night, so not just for fashion but for extra safety. She should look into holographic chocolate, as the holographic look doesnt come from a layer of plastic but the structure of the surface the chocolate is pored onto. I have been designing futuristic clothing for a while now , I would love to speak with her and maybe do a piece together, it would really show off a whole new dimension in fashion design and show what 3d printing is actually capable of.
Dude, that's an amazing idea.. what if your glass bed surface had the holographic layer on it? Every print (assuming you didn't destroy the texture) would be holographic on the flat side.
@@michealkinney6205 yh, that was the idea. maybe one day we will see something like that.
you know something even better that doesn't require batteries? Exactly reflex vests like wow that hasn't been around for two decades now...
@@Danuxsy Yeah, Sure but you can not go to a Party using Reflex!!. But You could use the jacket turned off. So you could only turn on the back of the jacket while you are riding.
@@Danuxsy A reflex vest does not serve the same purpose. A reflex vest does not produce its own light. In addition, the lighted jacket could easily be programmed to more clearly show things like turn signals more clearly.
Also, going from casual wear/street wear and bike wear fluidly is not at all possible with a reflex vest. That isn’t even factoring in practical aspects such as wind protection and even armoured protection for riding.
Ultimately, a reflex vest and this jacket could not be interchangeable when functioning as a bike jacket.
As a fashion student, the innovation of the making that Sophy Wong uses is incredible. For instance using the seams or biding to hide cables or putting pieces together with a 3D own rather than sewing. So inspiring
Have you not heard of Iris Van Herpen? Shes been doing with work for years.
@@khaderach19 I know right
It's still just 3D printed cosmetics on top of a traditional mesh garment. Costume makers have been doing this for decades if not millennia to make intricate detailing. The only innovation here is that it's a lot less pain staking to prototype and create.
Oh my goodness these are just amazing
I love the creator showcase. Using the platform to highlight fellow artists, as well as seeing Adam's excitement about all the awesome stuff he himself isn't so familiar with is just awesome
fashion and cosplay are not my jam but that technique is still really fascinating. Its like she figured out how to apply a 3D modeling texture to a person.
That shine wave at 20:26. This on a long dress, the shine effect when someone walks and the drapé follows smoothly with that incredible specular shine. Or even on long large hanging sleeves, like techno mage robe or something. This is awesome, we need more of it.
Sophy is so talented and also a genuinely kind person. so happy to see her work getting the recognition it deserves
This is the reason why I love looking at different skillset that is out of your major. Something like, as a graphic designer you can always learn something from an example a ballerina or a pilot. The technique may be so different but the dicipline is always the same.
I think videos like this are some of the most important ones this channel provides. It excites me to think of all the young designers you are inspiring by showcasing this kind of talent.
I remember first seeing 3D printing on fabric 4 years ago. That was like Scales or Armor.
So cool to see a full dress.
Sophy is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge. While most of us were still just fildding with swatches of tulle just trying to figure out optimal layer heights & best practices to get this to work at all Sophy was already miles ahead with numerous real world applications & developing that institutional knowledge and design philosophy. She's DEFINITELY my favorite person when it comes to wearable prints and one of my favorite makers in general. She always has an answer, and in many cases several answers with the various pros & cons for each approach.
That dress looks like something that would be at home in the Foundation show. It looks so futuristic and modern. Amazing!
I'm such a fan of Sophy's work. It was cool to chat at project egress. Thanks for the feature Tested.
I absolutely love the Show and Tell's Adam does with other makers! That is SUCH a good use of the platform, and gives us viewers new people to follow and appreciate! :)
Adam so wanted to put that hat/wig piece on his head!😅 Beautiful work!
Huge fan of Sophy. I got to meet her at Silicon!!
The possibilities this video inspires is staggering. Wow, can't wait to see more. Thanks Adam, and Sophy.
This is some Hunger Games level stuff.
*thought the same thing*
This is soo amazing. I wish I could see her shop and how she has it set up with all the different fabrics versus 3d printed items and so forth... It look soooo organized and amazing. This was great thank you
Adam, come a decade or two, I can foresee your Tested work being a bigger inspiration to creators and engineers and artists and more people generally, than your work with -- dare I say -- Mythbusters! Thanks so much Adam, your passion for all of this clearly shows in these videos, and it's obvious you have a clear vision of where you want yourself (and the community) to be, and are taking us all towards your vision! Thanks man!
This is so cool, thank you for highlighting Sophy Wong's work! If anyone is interested in a high-fashion version (in the sense that it's on the runway) of 3D printed garments, check out Iris Van Herpen's stuff.
I really love these "Look and Ask" type episodes with other makers. It's a joy to watch them share their work and see Adam so excited about all the possibilities that have just been opened up to him. Sophy's work is beautiful and it was really interesting to see and hear about her iterative and explorative approach to creating it.
The second dress looks like something Xena would wear. Awesome.
Extraordinary work! Sophy is amazing. =D
I want to see what Sophy can do with Vibranium 😆 Actually I do wonder if mini robots and actuators could be incorporated for ripple effects …
This is crazy! I would have loved to see her designing process in software.
I am glad she said she was not the creator but let’s be honest, Iris van Herpen been doing this for the last decade they just don’t know haute couture
I love this so much. How have I not heard of Sophy Wong before? This stuff is amazing.
Getting closer to cyberpunk with fashion, love the leather jacket
Just think of how you could 3D print scale mail armor that is almost that thin, but locks togeather when it's hit. I guess a gel piped undersuit would help as well.
That’s the future of wardrobe design in movies right there….👏🏼
I'm thinking the same.
She'll be hired for a project in the future, or someone will "homage" her work! 😅
Is impressive. A lot more interesting than I thought it would be! She's fun.
I absolutely LOVE it. My generation (boomer) celebrated the dawn of a new age. Now, half a century has passed, and you wonderful people have started the work day of the new age. This clothing you are inventing is so new, beautiful, innovative. Your generation is doing it. Thank you.
Yeah, wearing these "dresses", I can see how you would catch literally every geometry without realizing it. Binding, and pulling or pinching. She's done a great job reducing all of that. LOL, I feel bad she's probably getting a lot of pinching with female figure, but I really hope she releases her findings for others to hear about. This would help my projects too, I do a lot of work for other people, specially that glove, holy smokes that's film worthy immediately.
She is absolutely brilliant. Ground breaking.
That collar was like a whole bunch of castanets, super cool.
An easy way to test a design before you print it would be to use a cnc router to cut it out of a thin sheet of ridge foam glued to a fabric backer. Once the cnc router is finished, you can easily run a blade between the pieces to separate them. You probably wouldn't even need to do that if you get it thin enough from the cut, it wou just break as soon as it is flexed. This should be able to save you days of print time on redesigns.
Great work Sophy! I was going to ask what kind of mesh she was using and where to get it but then it dawned on me I could leave off the solid bottom layer and crosshatch a pattern at 1.2 or 2.4mm then add the solid sections above that. I'm going to try it with nylon and TPU.
when I first saw makers 3d print logos directly onto shirts I thought "ooh, this could be a game changer", but seeing it at this level I realize how much possibility there really is.
I'd never heard os Sophy Wong before. The stuff she's doing with 3D printing is amazing. The headress looked like something from the Star Wars universe and the glove looked like it would fit into Blade Runner. I could see Adam thinking about a new spacesuit design when he was wearing the glove. Thanks for sharing, Adam.
That was some of the most wholesome nerd chat I have ever whitnessed.
And amazing ideas born from a seemingly simple concept
Wow!!!! I want a whole fashion show! Those pieces are so cool!
Disney/Marvel wardrobe department take notes or call Sophy!
Iris van Herpen is another designer who uses 3d printing in fashion to spectacular effect.
inb4 there are 2 or 3 3d printers in the background in a few videos. I recently got into 3d printing and now my work wants to promote me for prototyping upgrades for brackets and stuff in the factory I work in. edit: also if Sophy is looking at comments, look into chainmail types as there are a TON of types of chainmail. Each hangs kind of different and may give you some ideas.
i follow Sophy on instagram and the work she does is so so clever- this is genius- she must have immense satisfaction when some thing she is working on comes to fruition
As someone who went to art college, this video is a masterclass. It shows how artists create and reveals some important aspects of the creative process: the repetitive and iterative discovery of the aesthetic characteristics of the material; the acceptance of it as it is, not as a simulacrum of another material; the use of the unavoidable seams to create patterns instead of accepting it as a flaw, and the rebellion against the normal process of printing by inserting a net mid-process, or not using it as it was supposed to, submitting it to her desired outcome. These and Adam's last comment about knowing the direction after jumping head-first into the project make for a great interview!!!!
Wow, that idea of printing on netting is effing brilliant ... and using a 3d pen to seam it all together! Amazing, amazing creator.
I could see Padmé Amidala wear that headdress, such a cool way to use 3d printing
The garments are amazing I love them - but what I love more is hearing about the process, the interation approach and the knowledge, techniques that come from it. Really inspiring. Go Sophie!
This was really cool. Thanks for sharing.
My burning question is of the durability relating to all of the printed sections of the clothing. I'd really love to find out that these items are more durable than their contemporary counterparts.
this is just amazing. imagine the possibilities. comic con here I come in my new 3d printed clothing
Wow, that's cutting edge stuff!
Sophy is da boss. I tried also printing on a mesh but for me was a novelty not a end product. I usually embed nuts into 3d prints when I do not want to use threaded inserts

What was going through Adams mind was a lot more coherent than mine. My mind was just going ooooh, wow, shiiit. Sophy Wong never fails to blow my mind with her creations.
Just more ingenious ideas for 3D printing, Love it!
My brain saw that dress and immediately thought about how that technique could be applied to armor.
OMG! SO Smart! Thank you! A true leap in inspiration!
Wow. That first jacket and the gloves would be freaking incredible for motorcycle riding gear. I'd be really visible at night and it would go well with my helmet that lights up and the lighting I added to the frame and engine of my Harley. I'm totally going to try customizing my armored riding jackets and gloves like this.
Ugh. I thought I had an original idea and then Adam mentions BMX gloves. But I ride a Harley so maybe it's still kind of an original idea.
Wtf! That's genius! Simple ideas like this are awsome.
This is amazing stuff. During the Pandemic I printed PETG masks over a dual layer cotton fabric and loved it. Love doing this and love love the jacket.
That bit Adam said about something not working for a current project but has future potential is something I've always liked. "From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success."
Those techniques would be great to make a snyder cut steppenwolf costume. Adam, I hope you do it & show us every step along the way.
I wonder how nonplanar printing and slicer innovation is going to change the possibilities of surface finishes on those panels
love the inventor haircut mr tested.
This is fantastic, blending maker with artisan. Very creative. Thank you for sharing.
This makes me proud to be a Sophie.
dude you will be able to make color changing clothes and invisibility cloaks with leds embedded in the parts and with conductive filament duuude
Getting great art deco vibes from the pieces, especially the dress and the wig.
omg this was so exciiting to watch! love the passion for the craft of both of you!
So, I guess Deus Ex mankind divided got the fashion of the near future most correct?
Wow she's pushing it to another level, quite interesting ! CUDO !
That is so cool!
i wonder if the concept of origami materials would play well with this concept
But can you dry clean it? 🙂
*could be tricky...my guess is that you would have to carefully clean these objects by hand*
hang it out and hose it off.
Can't wait to see where this goes. Would love to see the seem welding process
I feel like this is a sign of what's to come. This is AMAZING. I am absolutely blown away.
That dress is absolutely fucking amazing
This is absolutely fantastic! The possibilities are endless!
this is strait up futuristic like something out of Sci-fi
and Amazing
I have some of that Matterhackers Quantum Filament in the green / raspberry color. It's really pretty.
I gasped when she turned on the lights for the first time. So cool
Movie studios may want to take a look at this. You better patent this method.
My family member was just talking about this at Thanksgiving dinner.
This technique also can be used to make mosaic tiling.
Awesome work, Sophy!
that's awesome. i shudder to think how long it took to print that
Oh man this is cool. I'm excited to see where this all goes
I never thought about 3D printing regarding fashion but it's beautiful and fantastic.
This could be a good signal lights for bikers and riders as well
I'm always amazed at the new developments with 3D printing. Sophy's approach here is absolute genius.
Cool - reminds me of some of Iris Van Herpen's designs.
just don't go outside!
anyone else get huge fifth element vibes from the helmet?
really want to see some one push the conductive filament into the scene!
*very easily can see anything presented here in that universe*
I'd love that for motorcycle riding
