  • In this video I will be showing you how I change the front and rear brake pads on the 2020 Chevy Custom Trail Boss Z71 Unfortunately for the rear brakes I tried putting it in brake service mode but it didn’t work so I had to do it manually or you can say the hard way. Soon after I was finished changing the brake pads I figured out how to put it in brake service mode so if you want to see that video first click here ➡️ • How To Turn On Brake S... I also ended up removing the electric parking brake motor to finish compressing the piston all the way in and for better clearance putting back the new pads, I also show you how to remove and reinstall the brake pad wear sensor.

🛑🚨 IF YOU ALREADY REMOVED YOUR CALIPER & HAVE NOT PUT IT IN BRAKE SERVICE MODE READ THIS!!!!
Ok I did something similar to this before I could figure out how to put it in brake services mode i made the same mistake and tried doing this after I had already disassembled the rear brakes. I almost blew out the piston luckily I had someone watching and i stop before it could blow, but they did over extend. After all that I got all the lights come on probably because I had just over extended my piston (border line blew it out) I then tuck of the electric parking brake motor and winded the piston back , cleared all codes and they never came back.
    Know everyone reading this
YOU CANNOT PUT IT IN BRAKE SERVICE MODE IF YOU ALREADY TUCK EVERYTHING APART…..TO LATE KNOW YOU HAVE TO DO IT MANUALLY OR YOU WILL BLOW THE PISTON
that’s why I said in my other video if you already started taking everything apart you can’t do this anymore you will have to do it manually removing the electric parking brake motor and wind it back in by hand.

Thanks for the video man. Only thing I did different was remove the fluid cap in the beginning. When i was done replacing pads I the pulled negative cable and pumped the brakes until firm. Hooked negative back up and started truck, it kept itself in brake sevice mode, put it back to normal. No codes and eveything works good! I did somehow managed not to have to remove the electric motor somehow. Got lucky.

I replaced the rear rotors and pads last weekend. Found a set of pads that came with the pad wear sensor, but also found the sensor for $14 at autozone. I put the truck in brake service mode and also replaced the rear sensor along with the pads and rotors. When I was done I started the truck, took it out of brake service mode, and then the computer asked me if the pads were replaced....I selected "yes" and it reset the rear pads to %100 and left the front pads at %33.
Also, I removed the electronic parking brake from the caliper and fully compressed the caliper piston with an oil filter wrench/clamp thing I had on hand....you could also just use a C-clamp. The tool is only really necessary if you dont removed the electronic parking brake.

If you reused the same wear sensor, the percent won't show correctly anyway. The sensor gets worn down and that is how it can tell how much life is left. Thanks for this video. I though the rear brakes and rotors would be an hour and a half. Now I realize I should leave this project for a weekend where I have a few hours if anything pops up!

So finally got around to doing the brakes. For whatever reason I was unable to place the truck in service mode-followed your instructions and tried multiple times but the 2021 Tahoe wouldnt service mode from the EBP. Did the fronts anyways and of course the vehicle threw all kinds of codes and ESC and brake warnings. After a few hours all that went away and just need the engine light codes cleared. Thinking of attempting the rears tonight. A shame really the brakes are super easy to change especially for disc brakes. Thank you again for sharing and hope i can pass along my issues as well@@J.A.P.S best regards.

It’s a stupid feature that the manufacturer installed in order for the dealerships to make money
    I have the 2021 Sierra 2.7
And there was a rubbing noise coming from the front passenger wheel
Their diagnosis was that the break sensor is rubbing and that I need new brakes however, I had them do the brake job back in Feb 2023(towards the last week of the month) front & rear brake pads and rotors along with buying new tires (from my tire spot) with a grand total of $3k
From Feb to sept there’s no way my truck would need new brakes knowing I rarely use the brakes and use the engine to slow the vehicle down as I drive a lot
So your video confirmed that these trucks come with faulty brake equipment just to make us consumers believe we need new brakes when all it is to put new the brake equipment not the pads

What percentage paid did the truck say was left on yours? I did this last weekend because it said fronts were down to 17%. Removed them and compared to brand new ones. Hardly any difference. Maybe 1/8” at most, probably closer to a 1/16”. So put a new sensor on and put old pads back in. Still says 17% left.
