...and following the Bethesda Standard business model like Skyrim, Fallout... Please note: new is some mods don't block achievements... I bought some for Skyrim, the Alien story in Fallout! Hey, modders, get paid too! Not just donations. Better for all, as the business model causes creation of mods, extending the life of Starfield.

As a gamer of over 30 years I remember buying my game from the store in a box, which contained floppy disks and later on a CD-ROM.
THERE WAS NO FREE STUFF TO DOWNLOAD - EVER.
An update / additional content / mission disks etc was bought the same way.
More content takes time to create and time is money. Don’t want the additional content then don’t buy it, simple.

I can relate to this comment. We didn't get updates, we didn't have expansion packs. What you bought was what you got. Until PC gaming became more prevalent and the gamers learned how to change the behaviors of the game. And that didn't even really take off until the early early 2000's.

I keep thinking of microtransactions in GTA5 where people have spent hundreds if not thousands over the years for stuff like a yacht.
Also people on consoles apparently do not realize how much work is put into the Creation Kit so players need only press a button and they have a mod. If they ever modded current gen games on PC they won't know how awesome the Creation Kit is and how much work it actually saves them.
Tons of free mods coming out everyday.
Updates coming out in a very consistent manner.
Vultures quest is free for Shattered Space Edition which I never hear anyone talking about that. All they focus on is $7.
People just keep complaining no matter how much Bethesda does. Bunch of children that are never happy, smh.

The economy is terrible around the world, and inflation is making it difficult for people to purchase groceries and pay bills. If fast food has become a luxury, gaming entertainment is beyond a luxury now.
That being said, the game developers’ extra work should be paid for. It takes a lot of time, work, and effort to make these games, that we don’t understand.
Those who want the extra content should be allowed to have it, and pay for it, if they want to. It shouldn’t be a problem.

The sad thing about this, is these haters want to kill a game, that others like and enjoy. Who the "F" are they to ruin our fun, and enjoyment of this game. There was one youtuber that said they just need to let the game die. Like you said the strongest vote you have is in your wallet.
The quest that they are so upset with has 2 ways to play it, so you can do TWO playthrough, and it will be a little different easy time. This quest was also voice acted. The last time I checked voice actors get paid for their work, just like the coders, artiset, and everyone who has to work on the mod. Like you said,, you don't spend time at work for free? This guy that wrote this article didn't do it for free did he? I don't think so!
If you don't like the game that's fine, and it's fine to say that. But when you go on a rampage, a mission just not to say it but to kill a game that's nothing more then pure maliciousness.
At my age I have seen this happen before, and it has killed games. You have the right to not like a game, and the right not to play it. You DO NOT have the right to kill a game just because you don't like it.
Many of these haters; hate the game because they hyped it up, and made the game into something it was never intended to be in the first place. When it launched, and they were wrong they got pissed, and they don't have the balls to say they were wrong. Instead it's the game that was wrong! There is one youtuber I have follower for years, and even was a member of his channel for years. From day one I was watching his live streams as I played. He was always saying how much he was enjoying the game, and loving it. Then when the hate started, and really got on the roll he stopped playing, and then started to hate the game himself. Needless to say I am no longer a member.
This is all about clicks in the end. "I Hate this game, they just need to let it die" gets more clicks then "Gee I really like this game". People just like bad news. It's funny how these youtubers get piss about companies making a profit as they worry about how many clicks they're getting. Kind of ironic isn't it? Clicks = Profit!
I like your channel because you are honest about your thoughts. You do a really good job keeping your thought balanced. That's why I am going to become a member as well as a follower!

The update itself in terms of in-game content was more or less The Trackers Alliance; the initial full Bounty mission and the ongoing radiant bounties, Astra currency turn-in for legendaries. There was a little more in the update of course, and then Creation Kit and Creations, but content wise *included* that was it.
As for Creations: Bethesda released 6, 3 were paid. As it stands today there are >500 free Creations (still just 3 free from Bethesda) and 17 paid (again still just 3 from Bethesda). Free:Paid Creations, the paid ones represent 3% (and shrinking) of the added 'value'. The paid Creations are a drop in the ocean, and will arguably be eclipsed easily, though it may not be immediate.

Wow! Dean! How dare you! 😂😂😂😂 Spot on man! Totally agree and have some add so I brought my 55 gal drum of paint for the inconsequential screeches in the peanut gallery. First off the world over all has become packed with too many screechers that feel the world owes them. Ive got bad bad news for everyone! The world, Bethesda OWES YOU NOTHING! Creating content is work. I decide if I create something I feel has some small value. If I work, I expect compensation. There we have conflict. As a disabled veteran that lives barely above poverty and walks the razor edge of homelessness, money above all is important. Everyone acts like they’re still owed something above and beyond. Is the pricing bad, yes. However I got past the two Bethesda reps that actually came to my home, caught me unawares and pointed guns at my head and forced me to spend my credits, that were already inclusive to the content pack I purchased going in. It was horrible when they forced to pry out one of my long unused credit cards and drop a Benjamin on credits. I became even worse when the held steadfast and forced me to browse all the supercool stuff people had WORKED to Create spending time aside from their regular jobs to EARN some extra MONEY. How was I able to this as an impoverished content creator? I saved some MONEY for the future plan going in knowing paid content was coming down the pipe. My gameing history is this kiddies so do your homework. I started on a system called Oddyssy. First game system ever. Then Atari. Then whatever came after that, and the next and the next till here I am on series X console. At anytime no one ever forced me to purchase a console, a game, or any content. I was all done at my free will. If you think this content is expensive, delve into the flight sim world. See how expensive that is and on console there is no free content, planes, everything pay short of updates. No. Why? Because I’m a 55 1/2 year adult that not only has working knowledge of business. Once owned a Hal million dollar trucking company. I understand computers. My first computer was a commodore Vic20. My first PC was a 12Mhz Commodore with a 10MB hard disk and 640K memory. 😮 I have now well over 800 hours or so I Starfield and no plans to quit playing. Here’s where I’m really going to hurt some feelers. If YOU only play games, but have no knowledge of how to design and work in 3d cad modeling, manipulate high resolution texturing and apply it to a 3 dimensional wire model that still might need animation, complete it and get it injected into a game play tested and functional, you’re nothing but a gamer with a worthless opinion you have mistakenly thought was a fact because it steamed out your ears and escaped through your mouth. I don’t even pay attention to the gaming contro’s because I’m playing a single server sided one player role play game in a world designed as I see fit. PERIOD. No one forces me, or you to spend money and personally find it insulting the amount of people that feel with their outrageous expections of what should or shouldn’t be. GET JOBS IN INDUSTRY. PRODUCE VALUABLE CONTENT AT A FARE PRICE. People have also failed to realize that a lot of the content has notes stating in CLEAR PLAIN ENGILSH that it had been uploaded for THEIR GAMES and NOT TO UPLOAD! Whats a matter kiddies? Some or most can’t read? Great video Dean. I agree 1000% whole hearted with what you say here. I watch your content because you have super dynamic personality, sense of humor, clean cut and don’t feel the Murphy need to be an F bomber or rage hater/quitter when you meet defeat. Stay strong Bro! Non Illigitimi Carburundum! En Orbe Terrum Non Visi De Opresso Libre! Viva STARFIELD FOREVER!

How can The Vulture simultaneously "[not] offer anything unique...a simple, quick fetch quest" _and_ be representative of "locking story content behind a paywall". Either it's insignificant, in which case don't buy it if you think it's overpriced (I do think it is), or it's significant so do buy it (or don't and accept that).

The only problem that I have is that I can't do a new game start since the May update . As soon as the hunter attacks the lodge everything goes downhill from there . He doesn't show up in half of the locations that he used to . There's 90% more NPCs running around getting in the way . And I can't even board my own ship without getting a forever load screen . The only way I can play the game is to use an old save where I've already gone through Unity . That whole part of the game has way too much going on at the same time to not expect it to cause some trouble . All sorts of effects firing off , NPCs that don't even exist running around all over the place getting in the way . And a frantic music score playing in the background the whole time . I'm a little surprised that I was ever able to get past that . Just too many NPCs on the screen usually causes trouble , add the music and the special effects .🤔

My only gripe is the pricing doesn't make sense. 7 bucks for 1 quest. VS. The main game has 57 main quest. Around 200 total. If you just look at the main story and faction quests, you are paying under $2 a quest. So you have to pay 3.5 times more for the new quest compared to what you paid for the initial game. If they add targets on the board included in this 7, then it won't be as bad.

Basically just a new layer of every day play. But, the story and complexity is what you pay for. The Vulture looks pretty cool for affectively $7. It’s a damn deal people! Have I been clickbaited?! And by an elephant no less?!
Real take: It really depends on how many Trackers Alliance missions there are and how much it costs in totality. They could have released the entire thing for $30 as an expansion, with new items and stuff. The way they are doing it now just breaks it into smaller parts so they slowly release the content instead of all at once which is fine, and actually I think is cool. So in the end I'll hold judgement. If it turns into like 10 missions and it costs me $63 that's an entire game and too much.

Only issue I had was, I started a new character and re downloaded the game after disabling all the nexus mods and content relocators that program uses to make the mods work so I could see if the "official" mods would be less disruptive to the game, (I experienced a lot of issues that more than likely were caused or exacerbated by running mods) so when the official creation kit was released I got the Vulture mission and a cool looking handgun, a Starborn armor skin and a skin to make a drumbeat black, I can use the weapon color mod, but if I apply either of the other two I get the "achievement's will be disabled" message!
Oh, and BTW, nobody mentioned you get a new bounty board with both better rewards and unique completion requirements and those are just like all other faction job boards, so you are getting new faction content for free and you can generate a LOT of credits with these missions! but I definitely agree they should take a look at their price point, especially if it makes no difference if the mods you use are "official" or free!

  • @ShadowShinobi2012

The biggest issue with them comparing Nuka World to this add-on mission is that Nuka World was an expansion to the game that came in 2016. Bethesda didn’t officially release Creation Club until the following year, 2017. I definitely agree the price isn’t worth it BUT there’s nothing wrong with adding some paid/free add-ons to extend the life of a game. Modders take time and resources to bring their content to life and I think they should be compensated for it, whether they are Bethesda staff or average working folk. Like you said, inflation increases the costs of everything but I still feel like if people don’t spend the money to buy it, they may reduce the cost.

SF has never been better BUT vulture mod price (or ships habs mods price fx) is too high. Even compared to the price of Shatered Space DLC. So problem is not the game, or the mods content, or the" fact we'll have to pay for the hard work of people. The problem is the price-policy. I'll vote for Vulture content, because it's cool, when Bethesda *lower* the price. Regarding other creators content : ofcourse it's important to pay our support. Some mods are incredible. Force some bucks absolutely. But not 10$, not even 7$. Something like 4 or 5€ for a BIG mod is enough. PS : a way to gain some of this currency while playing should be put on the table. Not much, but at least a little. Then it will be fair.

@@Slowride75interesting, and completely irrelevant, there are many reasons to make your own ammo in real life, but you fail to answer the question - in Starfield why would you buy a limited resource from vendors and then take the time, effort, and additional resources, to make your own ammo instead of just buying it, often from that same vendor? There is no functional difference in the ammo, you are not making higher power ammo, or high quality ammo with precisely ground black powder to get a specific result. If all the elements could be crafted it would make sense, mine / farm the resources and make your own ammo, but it’s like going to the store and buying the ingredients for a cake, then baking it, vs just buying exactly the same pre-baked cake, not even getting the benefit of it being home made. The Creation Club is a framework. Yes, the Vulture was 10 bucks and while the Fallout 4 addon FROM BETHESDA was less per payable hour because they had inside access to code, the programmers already on board and working, the infrastructure, the ability to integrate heretofore unused/discarded ideas, etc. whereas an individual developer is operating on a different resouce/cost basis. The new framework allows individual developers the ability to cut their teeth on making mods and additions to the game and sell them. Will they need to charge 10$ for a few hundred hours of coding? I would think so. And I would expect some of them will plow the profit back into their work and make more. Some will expand and start companies. Maybe, (hopefully), some of them will move from that to later give us even DLC sized expansions one day. The Starfield universe is ripe for that kind of creative expression and opportunity and kudos to Bethesda for offering the platform for it.

The issue for me with the creations is that they gave verified creator status to the creator of one of the unofficial starfield patches. This tells me that Bethesda is aware of all the bugs the modders have fixed and they are intentionally not fixing them in the base game. And if you use the unofficial patch to fix the bugs that Bethesda are aware of and choosing not to fix then you won't be able to get achievements. If Bethesda were serious about making Starfield their least buggy game they could just review the fixes in the unofficial patch and incorporate then into the base game for everyone.

HOWEVER, my problem is the people who claim they don't like the game and don't play it but continuously come to Starfield channels and articles to dogpile on the game. I was watching a tutorial on ship building the other day, and the comments were full of people basically shitting on the game. The content creator posted a TUTORIAL, not an opinion or think piece. So if you don't like the game, why are you there????? I don't understand the need for them to spout their opinions about a game they claim they don't play. You're just trolling, you're not voicing discontent to make the game or experience better, you're just doing it because you either don't like the company, or you're pissed BG has put FO/ ES6 on the back burner so they can focus on Starfield. I don’t think it’s fair for people to lump Bethesda’s business model in with that same ilk because Bethesda is allowing content creators to be compensated for their own unique creations. It’s allowing talented people from our gaming community to earn a living. There is plenty of free stuff on the Creation Club. Should Bethesda charge you for managing your load Order and everything that’s involved behind the scenes to ensure these modes run on Xbox? Yes! I mean you can get a PC and the software and manage all that stuff yourself but it’s not free. So stop complaining. I think the complainers have no idea what it takes to run mods on PC. I can't begin to recall how many times I've seen exclusive missions locked behind pay walls in games; typically only if you order a pre-order version with a huge upmarket.
Also, the whole "disrespectful to players who already paid a premium..." is a huge bunch of crap. Those of us who pre-ordered, or later bought the premium version, got 1,000 free credits in the creation club. So, The Vulture Mission is free, if we want it.
As for bug complaints, you're not being realistic if you expect Bethesda to release anything to Xbox and think it's going to work on Day 1. The hyped graphics upgrade to Fallout 4 was released broken on day 1 to Xbox. You'll never convince me that Bethesda gives a damn about consoles, they're pc focused. Any idiot at Bethesda, could have playtested that FO4 patch on a Series X and realized it didn't work. Let the buyer beware.
And lastly, just as you said, no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. You don't like the prices, don't pay it. But don't be a whiny b and outright lie about other aspects of a game and review bomb it.

  • @wdf70

The whole paid mods thing just needs to die in general. If Bethesda wants to release new content, bundle it up with their DLC or release it as a free update. Bethesda is not hurting for money and them locking quests for a new faction in a free update behind a paywall is saying that they don't care about the integrity of their game, but how much money it can print.
They sold us a mid game parading as this apex of exploration when the gameplay loops actively spit in the face of exploration and then demand you enjoy it for no other reason than "we worked REALLY hard on it guuuuuys." and now they're demanding your money to make the game better while teasing this new epic DLC for a base game faction that got absolutely 0 character in the base game beyond THREE whole NPCs, and one doesn't even want to talk to you, the other is Vanguard exclusive and the companion gives us the most information about them, but not enough to make it worthwhile.
Because that's what Bethesda does now. They cut content and sell it to you at a later date. They took the model from Fallout 76 and put it in a singleplayer game. Sell them the bare bones now, fix it 2 years later and then say "it's finally good guys."
