- This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I take a 3 mile circular to the North & West South of the pretty village of Easton in Hampshire (located 2.75 miles to the North East of Winchester).
My walk starts at the Church of St Mary to the West of the village (where I park my car) and I take a stroll passing by two pubs (The Cricketers & The Chestnut Horse) and a variety of pretty thatched cottages and attractive houses.
Leaving the village, I follow a footpath over fields and cross the River Itchen which is in full flow after a few days of rain in the area. On the Northern bank of the river, I explore the Church of St Swithun's at Martyr Worthy and then head West (after discovering a boundary stone near the footpath).
I eventually make my way to Abbots Worthy(following the Pilgrims Way. Itchen Way, Alan King Way & St Swithun's Way!) after passing underneath the M3 motorway.
My route then tales me South and then over the river Itchen again at Abbots Worthy Mill. I pass through the grounds of the old Fulling Mill, back under the motorway again and along a ridge that takes me back to Easton.
Once again I was lucky with the weather - a fresh Autumnal sunny morning in dry conditions.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video, Dave & Logan. Beautiful countryside, cottages and houses. Looking forward to your next walk. P.S. Enjoyed the video so much, that we are going to watch it again!
Thanks Elaine. They were both very pretty villages and the River Itchen was looking very clear that day.
Thank you Dave for your interesting ramble around that little corner of Hampshire where many of my paternal forebears lived. My 3x great grandparents are buried right by the door of St. Mary’s Church. He was church warden in his day so I suppose he pulled a few strings be interred there. I believe the congregation in good weather use the flat top of my ancestors’ grave to place their post service coffee and tea cups on!
Thanks Mark. Great that you have a family connection with the area. Thank you for watching.
Great walk Dave love the river anthe pub looks good thanks
Thanks Trevor. It is a pretty area around there. Thank you for watching.
The river Itching is truly beautiful and the cottages so picturesque.
Thank you Jackie. They are two pretty villages. :)
Another great walk David. I don't know how you find such nice places.
Thanks David. :)
Interesting walk Dave, I don't know that area, pretty village and lovely views of the Itchen.
Thanks Peter. I do love the Itchen!
Thanks for the video Dave, just what was needed on a wet and windy afternoon. I hope you have enough walks filmed already to last until the end of lockdown. I always look forward to Fridays to see you latest upload.
Thank you Susan. Yes, I should have just enough films that were made last year to get me through!
Beautiful. I'm really enjoying these walks. They're brilliant. 😀
Thank you. :)
Really enjoyed your walk. The only time I’ve seen smoke was by the Fulling Mill I used to help at Abbott’s Worthy Kindergarten in the 1980’s.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Anne. Interesting to learn about your connection with Abbots Worthy.
Hi Dave. Is this walk buggy friendly? Got a toddler to bring along. If not, have you got a buggy friendly walk around Hampshire that you can recommend?
Hi. I seem to recall a few gates that would be tricky to get a buggy through and certainly the path back to he village (that went along a ridge) was a bit undulating. There are a few good walks in the New Forest that are great for "buggy access". Check out my videos of the Blackwater Tall Tree Trail or Keyhaven or Penninton. A good "Forest " one - along hard tracks, is at Burley (The Inclosures) at ruclips.net/video/OH7T6Nfc_sI/видео.html
