- In this episode of my series “ Walks in Hampshire”, I take a walk in & around the village of Upton Grey which is located about 5 miles South of Basingstoke. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I park my car at the Hoddington Arms (my final destination) and start off my 5 mile circular walk with a wander through the village of Upton Grey. Passing the enchanting village pond, I head up to visit the Church of St Marys.
My route into the countryside starts by going Southwards through Hoddington Park towards Privett Copse & Little Park Copse. These delightful woodland areas are full of bluebells with the sound of birds singing all around.
My journey then takes me Northwards across fields towards the village of Weston Patrick. Another settlement full of stunning houses & cottages as well as a pretty church (Church of St Lawrence).
I continue North, passing through the tiny hamlet of Weston Corbett before eventually joining a section of the Three Castles Way.
Shortly after an intersection with a Roman road, I follow a bridleway back to Upton Grey and finish up for light refreshments at the Hoddington Arms.
NB: I should have removed my cap when I was in the church - please accept my apologies for the oversight.

The countryside walk in England is wonderful
Thank you Keith. :)
Love the village. What a lovely Spring Day. All looks so clean and green. No primrose's on your walks.? Nice door on the church all of it was wonderful. Love that straight path through the field. Thank you for the walk, nice to hear the birds enjoy the pub.
Thanks Lavinia. It was so peaceful walking through those woods.
Hi dave fantastic video your videos just keep getting better and better makes my weekend thank you.
Thank you Craig. :)
I am finally getting to watch this Dave. It looks so beautiful there. Logan looks content and happy to go for a walk. Gorgeous village is right Dave!! Just amazing area. Thanks to you both for showing me and others such beauty.👏🏻
Thank you Melissa. It is such a pretty village and that village pond is quite glorious!
Love the straight lines of the paths scored through the crop fields. I guess the Roman road would have been ruler straight too if not ploughed out. Enjoyed the natural soundtrack of birdsong in the woods too. Thanks for taking us along with you and Logan.
Thanks Jean. Yes, I simply couldn't put music over that lovely birdsong!
Another great walk. Thank you!
Thank you Jim. :)
What a wonderful walk!
Thank you Hannu
Stunning houses .I must visit the garden ,cheers Dave
It is such a pretty village Ian - especially around the pond.
Hello Dave that was a really nice walk you had lovely weather for it yes definitely a 2 pint stop we think you deserve it hope Logan enjoyed his crisp
Thanks Ralph. Yes, it got warm later on in the walk!
Your videos are exciting .....in a zen sort of way!
Thank you!
Great walk Dave. Some lovely properties and wonderful countryside. I know the Victorians probably preserved many churches that would have been demolished but they did rather over do it a bit with their additions and style.
Thanks Geoff. There were some beautiful houses in both Upton Grey & Weston Patrick for sure.
Fabulous video Dave, and anyone that knows anything about gardening has heard of Gertrude Jekyll, and of course Vita Sackville-West, and on a much bigger scale Capability Brown. 😁😊😎 They were all geniuses in their 'own field' ( pardon the pun! ) 😏
Thank you. I would have loved to have been able to look over the wall of that garden!
Might be nice to toss in some very brief encounters with the people in future videos....
A good idea for the future _ I would need a second microphone really to make that work.
