Ryan Coogler is already a legend and he's just 31. So warm and effusive during what seems to be a gruelling marketing campaign for this movie. I watched the movie a few days ago and after processing it, it really was filmed like a tapestry of stories woven together. There are many big themes in the film.
and about oakland! even though it wasn't shot there, so much beauty, power, character, and intellect resides there! so for this kid from 'the neighborhood' tying all of these themes & characters & crafts & personnel & visions into this blockbuster piece of art is truly legendary and highly inspirational!
This guy is officially my favorite current director along with Denis Villeneuve. This movie exceeded my expectations & is automatically my favorite Marvel/Disney film. No corny forced humor, it psychologically dug into the characters & it didn't follow the usual Marvel cliches. Erik Killmonger may be my favorite comic book movie villain.
I LIVED MY ENTIRE LIFE, WAITING FOR THIS MOVIE. I WATCHED BLADE, BLANK MAN, UP UP AND AWAY, METEOR MAN. ALL OF THOSE BLACK FILMS WATCHED, JUST SO I CAN WATCH THIS.
His comment about seeing Panther as a king instead of a superhero is why this movie succeeded. The super part is a given and as fun as it is to see these guys punch things, it's their characters and interactions that keep people watching. One of the most memorable parts of Civil War for me was Tony and Cap fighting at the end, and not the actual fight. Cap is torn between two of his best friends and a belief that he believes strongly in. Tony feels betrayed that Cap would hide something as significant as Bucky killing his parents from him. You feel bad but understand both of them. In the end Cap shows why he's Captain America, and it's easily one of the best scenes in all of the MCU. Anyway, that character building and drama is key. Without that, Panther is just a guy in a cat outfit punching people. Dude knows what's up and Marvel just keeps killing it.
thats very true - i do get that same vibe but ive watched interviews where he is more enthusiastic. maybe he wasnt feeling this interviewer. but i agree with you!
I know this is their job, but to have to answer the same questions over and over again for weeks and weeks on end has to get tedious. For everyone involved, the press tour must be crazy.
Coogler's movie will make over a billion dollars. There's a lot fans want to be explained, even if he has given us enough already. Some are possibly looking for every tidbit he might add as each interview comes along; others just for the nostalgia from watching the film.
Antoine The Transracial White Man Named Harrison The devil is using you to try to deter me. You are a troubled spirit with a lot of strife and I refuse to take on that from you. So this is where I say God Bless you and I hope you prosper into the destiny God has for you. Love you so much in Christ. 🙏🏾
Thank you for such thoughtful and honest answers, Ryan! Thank you for those well researched and unique questions, Crystal! This was a wonderful interview. I cant wait to watch/listen to more interviews by Crystal Bell!
Everyone who loved Black Panther and its soundtrack needs to remember to write reviews for both. The production companies need to know that we enjoyed it and want a sequel. The more positive reviews they receive, the bigger the budget will be for the next Black Panther movie! Let's keep promoting the movie.
At first I wasn't interested in Creed: a spin-off of the diminishing-returns Rocky Franchise about a character related to a character from the early days of the franchise. It sounded like a Hollywood cash-grab, but I heard word of mouth. I caught it on pay television one night and it was amazing. A fantastic character piece that's more honest than melodramatic. I appreciate this guy's storytelling and direction. On paper a movie about training for a fight sounds boring, but it's a very interesting film. Just saw Black Panther and it's also very all-encompassing. I have yet to see Fruitvale Station. This guy is a master.
m I o . o I m please see it, being that I still live in and have been raised in the Bay Area. The movie was painful to watch. We see that station as a memorial now. It’ll be 10 years next year. Oscar Grant was a misunderstood soul that lost his life unnecessarily.
I'd heard good things about Creed, but wasn't really drawn to it. But after watching Black Panther, and seeing how Coogler was able to show us a story that really came from who the characters were, now makes me want to Creed and everything else he makes in the future. I'd love to see what he could do in the Star Wars universe, and really, anywhere else.
I've seen all 3 of his films and loved them all, but Fruitvale Station is still my favorite. I love small honest movies like that because everything is exposed and there's no trickery to keep you engages, only story. It's a must see film that will wreck your heart.
Juan Rhodes That would be interesting Juan, his storytelling will bring a strong character based plus Disney now sees his genius they might go ahead an ask him
Really loved creed. Coogler and B Jordan are great together, but I was let down with BP. IMO the best were the hand to hand fights for the thrown. I wanted more real hand to hand in the end and not full blown CGI fest. BP was a beast in civil war with his fighting style and I wanted coogler to take that a step further in BP but I was let down by how much CGI there was. Hopefully we get more raw, fantastic hand to hand choreography in the sequel. IMO so far the Russo’s know how to do great hand to hand fight scenes hence Cap is my favorite Avenger. He’s the most entertaining for me to watch do what he does. BP can be on that same level if not better so here’s hoping the sequel delivers on that.
Barber messed my beard up too bro, He thought I didn't want my stash connected and shaved that shit. I was so mad I said fuck it and kept the other side grown out.
Sorry Vicodyn but it doesn't matter how it was typed as long as you got the point of what I was trying to say. beside, you edited your response... as for OCD.. smoke some weed and calm down you'll be alright.
Is it just me or does it speak weird? As if his tongue is too big or something. BTW I like him and I love that as young as he is, he's doing great. I'm surprised that he was able to do in Hollywood.
Its a comic book movie, it is what it is. But man, that line from T'Challa, about how his father left Erik behind in the 'States to be "radicalized?" Wow, that really put a spotlight on how bad things can be here. The biggest difference between T'Challa and Erick is that T'Challa grew up in a privileged position in an advanced African nation, and Erik grew up as a foster child in the US. The difference is the culture they grew up in, and Killmonger was a product of our American society. That's a huge indictment on the way things are here. But the movie is also aspirational. I want the US to be as great as Wakanda, and that may sound silly, but I think that's what we should all want.
Just watched it today. It was ok. I expected more though but it was a coo movie. And its not about the box office gross, people don't buy movie tickets to review a movie they haven't even watched. So your point is "very well" irrelevant.

this dude is an inspiration

Rell Absolutely! He's a PHENOMENAL director. CREED is my favorite movie period.
I was talking about every other Marvel movie when it comes to the humor, not this one. Their was some humor in it but it worked, & didn't feel forced.
He's my favorite director too.
Ryan Coogler has made another PHENOMENAL movie again!! :-)
Vicodyn actually he’s known for all 3
Been a fan of his forever. I'll never judge anybody by their diction ever again
I LIVED MY ENTIRE LIFE, WAITING FOR THIS MOVIE. I WATCHED BLADE, BLANK MAN, UP UP AND AWAY, METEOR MAN. ALL OF THOSE BLACK FILMS WATCHED, JUST SO I CAN WATCH THIS.
FACTS✊🏿
J S LMAO I understood that reference.
Well said. Read the comics.
😂😂✊🏾✊🏾 I read that in Killmonger's voice lmao
😂 one love y’all

This - I can't agree more. It's because he is a king and royal
DC needs to take notes and make Batman & Justice League great again. That TV & MOVIE universe is different thing is so dumb. Marvel doesnt do it
You can hear the Oakland in his voice big ups Ryan keep doing you
DonDiBiase so much, I’m from the Bay. Still live here. He’s so Oakland.
DonDiBiase he also prefers behind the camera
DonDiBiase he sound like marshawn lynch 😂😂
he looks absolutely exhausted but he still answered the questions as best as he could. looked like he was gonna pass out towards to end, poor thing :(
Malaika Malz I also think he just prefers to be behind the camera. I’m from where he’s from & He’s so Oakland. He’s so brilliant & heartfelt.
Kimmie T You said that perfectly.
thats very true - i do get that same vibe but ive watched interviews where he is more enthusiastic. maybe he wasnt feeling this interviewer. but i agree with you!

From one Black Filmmaker to the other I’m so proud of him.
Antoine The Transracial White Man Named Harrison That’s your opinion I will be great.
Antoine The Transracial White Man Named Harrison The devil is using you to try to deter me. You are a troubled spirit with a lot of strife and I refuse to take on that from you. It's not showing up on my Netflix or cable. Black Panther has actually prompted me to check my local for DVD or Blu Ray next weekend. I WILL see it!

Great 👍 interview @CrystalBell 🙂
love the interview, intelligent man and I'm glad I've been introduced to his Work.
Great creator AND fine 😩😍😃
LOL
Killmonger was great
He's a character in and of himself. Be interesting to see him act. The way he talks, he's normal but really unusual.
What she really wanted to say was she really loved Michael B. Jordan's body in this movie. LOL.
Fantastic interview! Interviewer did great

That wall paper is cute
They left some things out of the movie but he made the movie I wanted to see.

Boy coogler did an amazing job it was studio mandates who were responsible for the other stuff
Wakanda Forever! (X)

Hahaha so you didn't press that doorbell...Lolol
I'm not saying bruh is a liar. But I never said that
lol
Is it just me or does it speak weird? As if his tongue is too big or something.
BTW I like him and I love that as young as he is, he's doing great. I'm surprised that he was able to do in Hollywood.
If they’d spent as much time making this film action packed as they did making it a political statement it would’ve been a lot better tbh

Gary Kline ur more likely to be radicalised in Africa than u r in the US tho
taliabear2010 i didn’t mean being king
A lot of "Ummms" and "you know". Almost distracted me from the beauty of the interview session.
This movie look hella garbage

sunshine rose well said, and counting. Haters always will troll
