There a fish contest for 1st time at Aquatic Experience so I thought I'd check out some of the winners for Species Sunday. Guess who strolls by? My man Gary Lange in the house! Had to nab him for a walk through on the fish display. Neither of us are up on all the cichlid species, but we muddle through.

im really into cichlids they are inteligent and it really shows in the aquarium... i think dustin likes to much a plantes tank to have a big cichlids tank but im sure he likes there way of perssonality ( he has too) xd

I've kept Severum almost my entire time in the hobby and they are some of my favorite fish!! I currently have a pair of Rotkeils and a Super Red and they have tons of personality and are more peaceful than a lot of other larger cichlids I've experienced.
I saw a Petenia Splendida yellow morph at 7:27 among Malawi's. That Paratilapia and Altum took the cake.It's a bit weird that Tropheus,Shell Dwellers , Jewels and Kribs weren't presented in this video.These are my favourites.
Sad that he doesn't know most of these common fish species. That other guy Gary wasn't helpful either...

8:45 Goldsaum. Andinoacara rivulatus... commonly mistaken for a green terror. Green terrors are Andinoacara stalsbergi
RBProductions815 I disagree. can you tell me the distinguishing factors between A. rivulatus (goldsaum) and A. stalsbergi? (GT)
To me, this looks like a true green terror (stalsbergi)
7catstied2gether scale color and pattern. So there are several pictures on Google of both most of which are accurate. check out the coloration of the scales. Light vs dark. You will see the difference. I am not an expert but from my experience, this is the way I understand it. Stalsbergi are much less common in aquarium stores as well. Hope that helps

@@theholt2ic219 yeah that was 3 years ago lol. I'd say now the difference might be in the taxonomy. Other than that idk. I don't keep fish anymore.
The one you thought was a flower horn at 9:00 is a green terror there my favorite
their are just some fish that every fish guy must know and the fish at 8:47 is no exception it's officially a golden suam but ppl ended up mixing up the name with a very similar cichlid called the green terror I have one myself with a tilapia buttikoferri like you saw in the beginning of the video they are really remarkable cichlids
Those wild Altums as awesome. Didn't know angels could get colors like that. Way cooler than what you see in local pet shops

I've only kept Bolivian rams, had no idea some of the bigger breeds could get so beautiful. I'm gonna have to get some large cichlids when I have a bigger tank.

Thats Andinocara Rivulatus (the flowerhorn mentioned in the video) and the other one in the beginning of the video is Dovii (Parachromis Dovii).

that is the coolest green terror I have ever seen!
At 8:40 we used to catch and eat large fish that were a green color but had this exact shape and large knob on its head. We always wonder WTF they were. Seemed some had knob some didn't. We thought is was a male female thing.
Hey Dustin! Great show! I actually contacted Eric cause he wanted to sell those Altums ! He wanted close to a $100 per fish.. Too bad I didn't get them
Wow, couldn't have been a better time to see Gary.Watching the video at 2:10...the Amphilophus festae. I'm currently raising a young male with Odessa, Gold, and Tiger barbs as dither tank mates..sweet little arrangement.
Also have a gorgeous female Jaguar who's around 8" in a separate tank. Lives with a gold spotted red severum and a pair of Jack Dempseys..I also have a buttikoferi.
Large cichlid keeping is quite rewarding.

Right after the best in show FESTAE: there were 2 Quetzal Cichlids, female was above the male. I keep a pair of these guys, they are amazingly beautiful.
...And the thumbnail is a GREEN TERROR... C'mon Dustin, thats a really common one!

Not all male green terrors have a horn. The horn is a dominant trait
Great Vid! the fish at 2:25 look like vieja synspilum, had a few years back very colorful, and light tempered compared to others. Those and others in Vieja category are great to own. Check out Argentea.

7:44 to 8:14 appear to be the cichlid known as the Marakeli if I am not mistaken.I forgot what its scientific name is though.
Also known as a Polleni Cichlid.

The beautiful fish at 8:40 is a 'False' Green Terror, also known as a Gold Saum. Scientific name is Andinocara rivulatus
