@@harryseddon776 The 70's all the way from beginning to end never missed a beat for music.
But i also love the 1980's for music. 80's bands moved things more forward into different sound textures due to the electronics with the synthesizer and programming which helped broaden horizons.
The 70's is a very interesting decade for music.
I think most people who prefer the 80's is because there was a lot of depression in previous times looking at ways to escape it through their own music.
But most look back at the 70's stuff today and remind themselves that there was some amazing bands at the time who they were definitely influenced by.
People like marc bolan, david bowie, roxy music, brian eno, the talking heads just to name a few, were massively influential.

    • @pennymcneela7095
      @pennymcneela7095 Год назад

@@toddblanks , I do believe Queen was influenced by Sweet, on some of their songs I hear Sweets singing techniques and lyrics scattered about.
Sweet was one of the most underrated bands of the 70's but their music was fantastic.

As a kid I would sit alone listening to Visage. I never grew out of the new romantic movement, so would often be bullied when music and fashion moved on. I went to Steve’s 50th birthday party and a few of his events in the mid 2000s. I went alone to his funeral, a 500 mile round-trip. I stood in the rain for two hours waiting. I was interviewed by the Sun, newspaper, heart, radio, and local papers in Radio due to the way I was dressed. The BBC and Boy George tweeted pictures of the wreath I had sent with our picture on. I send a wreath every year to his sister for the grave. I am still so upset that I have never managed to get there myself, so thank you for posting this. Last tune, I represented and led the new romantic, 1980s section of the Queen’s platinum jubilee parade through London. I did it for him. I still cry every time I hear fade to Grey. He was such a pioneer and leader of the 80s music and fashion movement. I will never get over his loss and have a tattoo of the fade to Grey single cover on my arm.

Very interesting and respectful video. Steve had a long standing drug addiction going back to his early twenties and although he may have finally beaten it , it took its toll on his mental and physical health. That plus money troubles was part of why he ended up living with his sister and her family.I also believe he had some kind of stroke several years before he passed away. I remember a friend of mine, who is sadly no longer with us, telling me that when he worked in a record shop in London in the 1980s, Steve was banned from coming in because of his previous behaviour (probably due to the drugs). And as every Bowie fan knows, Steve was in the video for Bowie's 1980 song 'Ashes to ashes ' (filmed in Scarborough I think). Anyway, Fade to grey is a brilliant record and one of the seminal tracks of the early 1980s. A haunting song from a unique artist.

Thank you so much for this video, out of all of the '80s music stars, Steve is one of my favorites. As a teenager in the early 80's growing up in a small farm town in the middle of nowhere in America, when I discovered Steve Strange and Visage, my life changed. I felt like I found 'My Tribe'. In 1985 when I ran away from home at age 17, the music of Visage was my constant companion, something about the music and him inspired me so much and helped give me courage live life fearlessly and see the wonder and beauty in it. A song he released in 1984 *'Casualty'* really spoke to me:
*_At 17 you're in a world of your own_*
*_You think that no-one quite understands_*
*_Your mother is telling you to stay at home_*
*_Your father has quite different plans_*
*_You've packed your bags and you're ready to leave_*
    *_Like so many times before_*
*_You leave the envelope on the kitchen table_*
*_As you turn the key of the door_*
Seeing his tombstone is so sobering, its such a unique, un-nameable feeling. Steve Strange We Love You 🙏

A great, informative video. I feel privileged to have known Steve for a number of years. I was an extra in the Ashes to Ashes filming you mention, as well as having attended the one off Blitz Revisited club night at the site of the old Blitz club with Rusty Egan, Princess Julia and Martin Kemp amongst others. For the past 27 years I have been involved in Electric Dreams club in London, which honours the New Romantics, Synth Pop and New Wave scenes. Steve even came along one night to visit us at Gossips which was an honour. Both Steve and Rusty gave us their very own stamp of approval for our club. (Rusty took up our offer to DJ on one occasion). Our club started by sheer coincidence at Gossips, Meard Street, Soho - the very same site where Billy's Club was, and where the New Romantic movement was founded. My experiences with Steve were always enjoyable and very memorable. I always look back with very fond memories of our time together, albeit as brief as it was, and very sadly cut short by his untimely death. I will never forget him and it always raises a smile when I hear Visage music played either at our club or elsewhere.

@@UnusualThings1 A pleasure. I was also looking at some of your other great videos with interest. For example, I was devastated by Melanie Appleby's death at such a young age. You are always welcome as our VIP at Electric Dreams (The Water Rats/The Cannick Tapps).

Oh my. I was born early 70s, but I remember Steve strange well. Loved Visage growing up, I was very jealous that men could do their make up better than me!! Loved watching Steve in Celebrity Scissorhands, the pure love Lee Stafford had for him was lovely to watch. If you ever come down to my neck of the woods, I'd love to go celebrity grave hunting with you Paul.
