    I believe the ta02t, in the form of the Chevy c10, Toyota Prerunner and the similarly bodied “desert fielder” trucks, all had the same rear ball diff and front gear diff setup. Well, I know for a fact the desert fielder did, as it was one of my very first builds, 10 or so years ago. I must say, I did enjoy building those ball diffs, but honestly did not see the point. Great Lancia btw. Really pretty.

    Hey Glenn by the way, on the ta02 those dog bones in The rear have so much play to the inside in the inner joint cups, that the joint cups can go outside a little bit, and this can cause the joint cup teeth to strip the teeth inside the diff. There are 2 tips I1. Get the trf bushings 53577 and shove them under the dogbones on the diff side. This will prevent the joint cups from going outside. At first it's tight but it will settle. This tip is from the German race series "rck Kleinserie" that have a ta02 Porsche cup. 2. Put a bit of loctite or similar on the joint cups like you do on a top force evo.

    Yeah that’s was always the setup on the TA02/01 front gear diff and rear ball diff you could put a one way bearing in place of the front diff gears as a hop-up or keep the gear diff and do the torque splitter (one way bearing on the front input gear) quite a departure from what they are doing now on TC’s which is typically a rear gear diff which is tuned with different oils and a locked front diff

    I absolutely love that Lancia bodyshell, it looks drop dead gorgeous even unpainted! I would love to get one, but in the UK the kits are currently around £180-200, so it'll have to wait a little while. Besides which I need to plan how I'm going to do the bodyshell, it won't be box art, that's for sure....

    Got mine finished! I don’t know if it’s possible to get the stripes to look remotely decent without the soap method and lots of massaging with a hair dryer. It’s worth the effort though! Now it’s too pretty to drive though. 😩
    One annoyance is that the battery compartment is oval shaped for nickel cells. I was able to cut away enough material to fit hard case 2s lipo packs so it’s not a huge deal.
    I hope your build is coming along. I’m a rookie at this so your videos are a huge help.

      The Porsche 911gt2 on the ta02sw is the same diff-wise as you might know. Actually the 58277 ta03r trf and 58243 ta03 rs trf have a similar setup, with only rear ball diff, although the gear diff in the front does contain a one way unit on those. Also the racers said back in the days that you should only put 1 ball diff in the rear on a ta03(f) and not in the front, other ways it will push (understeer). The way I see it, a gear diff (one without oil, old style tamiya) is generally rather loose, whilst a ball diff is generally more tight. Ball diffs thus give a similar reaction as a limited slip diff in a real car: not all power is given only to the unloaded wheel. So you have more power on the ground. Now if you put this to the front, the car will react more like a front wheel drive. So opposedly putting a ball diff in The rear gives strong on- (and off-) throttle power on the rear wheels, making it act more like a rwd car. This is emphasized by putting the rather loose gear diff in the front. This will make the front end more willing to turn in, thus give lots of steering, a sharp turn in and a mild corner exit, as not both front wheels are pulled so much under acceleration as with a ball diff. So the car will be turning more aggressively, be direct, agile and nimble. If you put 2 ball diffs, it will probably be more understeery both off power ( corner entry) and on power (corner exit). Unfortunately you can not make a different setting for on and off power, as you do in a real car. The closest to that is the newest "active" diff by xray. Which works with some ramp angle inserts. On and off are two different stories. Generally I think Tamiya will not sacrifice this important decision of crucial baseline setup of what diffs are where for parts being left over.

I don’t like how the cars brake heading into a hard corner with the one way up front so I tried to move it out back. Still has AWD but now under braking it will not spin out. • @K-Anator
    @K-Anator 3 года назад

    I wonder if the different diffs is because of how they function? From what I understand, the ball diff is a limited slip, whereas the gear one isn't. That way the rear can basically always put down power, but the front can loosen up when it needs to.

    Wow, I like this metal looking gear houses.
    Differentials are religion and every driver prays to his own god. This configuration here is quiet unusaual. But I think the philosophy behind it is, to give the driver the opportunity to adjust the starting point of the diff. to get as much force on the street as possible. That is much easier if the wheels just spin around the axle and do not turn at the same time left or right. Which brings a second dimension into the system. But in my mind ball diffs are more kind of interest for on-roaders than off-roaders or ralley cars. The effect of the adjustment are better to recognize on tarmac than on dirt. And I don't speak about the effort of the adjustment or replacing worn out parts. That is a big disadvantage of ball diffs.
    If both diffs have the same dimensions, module and mount of teeth, change the ball into a cone diff😉. No adjustments or wear.
