- Today I’m taking you on a walk and talk around the allotment followed by planting up the pumpkins.
I am also sowing some cabbage and radishes to enjoy in the autumn.
Hello Will. Just discovered your channel yesterday. Watched all the videos. I really enjoy your journey on this allotment…your learning…your experimenting & your dedication & perseverance. Kind regards from a senior lady in Wyoming USA.
Thank you so much for the kind words 🤗. Although at times it feels like hard work I am enjoying the challenge 🙂🌱
🐝thanks for the great video🌻 subscribed
Thank you for the kind words 🙂🌱
Great video. New sub here ❤❤❤
Thank you so much 🌱🙂
Checkout pumpkin growth over at seren`s garden. The runners can be massive. You will want a structure to keep them off the ground.
Thank you, I’m going to need some garden canes 🙂🌱
Saw this on my yt page just now, came to look, liked and got connected. I'm a novice gardener myself and learning everyday. I plan to try and grow a fall/winter garden for the first time this year.☺
Welcome and thank you. A fall/winter garden sounds amazing. I’m hoping I can keep growing something into the winter but not sure what 🙂🌱
Christmas list wheelbarrow check 😂. Pumpkins should do well there Will. Have a super week, Ali ☁️🇨🇦
Ps the bed will fill up,fast with pumpkin leaves
Thank you, I think I will have a long Christmas list this year 😂. Hoping I get some pumpkins as well as leaves 🌱🙂
I miss-read the comment above as 'Christmas Lights for wheelbarrow' ;-)
Keep all of your empty egg shells, wash them, and let them dry up. Then when you have enough, crush them and sprinkle them around the plants prone to snail and slug attacks. They don’t like slithering over egg shells! Easy, organic, free from your kitchen, and efficient! Hot tip from Brisbane! 😊
Edit: they also look nice over the garden bed and help prevent weeds if deep enough
Thanks for the top tip. I will be sure to give this a try. The slugs are already after my beans 🌱🙂
Weed barrier works best before you sow, once the bed is cleared in autumn, or let the weeds germinate in the spring, hoe out, then sow, its what our great, great, grandparents did.
Thank you, hopefully in the autumn I can cover the bed and that will stop most of the weeds 🙂🌱
The shed roof is looking good. Beans & potatoes look good too. Do you have reseeding tomatoes in the UK? I’m excited to see about the progress of grapes & fruit trees. Flowers could help replenish the soil nutrients and dress up the plot. 😊
Bed's are coming along looking good 👍,
If you can get wood chip that's good , it would be great for your paths inbetween your beds saves a lot of work cutting grass
Thank you, now the weather has improved I am hoping the grapes and fruit trees will ripen. I believe we do have reseeding tomatoes but I am not sure that’s the variety I’m growing 😂
Thank you, I’m hoping the site gets more wood chips I can use for my paths but I do like the look of grass 🙂🌱
have you thought about putting builder mesh netting around the fence and behind your shed it would suppress a lot of the hedge n weeds by it
Thank you, that’s a great idea I need to look out for the netting as I’m afraid the hedging will take over 🙂🌱
@@growwithwill7841 i got mine off amazon cos I've got a huge hedge in my garden but also I wanted to grow veg in the border next to it and it works pretty well I've cable tied mine in and every now n then I take those off trim it again and tie the mesh back on it saves a lot of hedge trimming
Hi
When you were showing the weeds on the side of your allotment at the beginning of the video, do you have any idea what the tall purple flowers are? Thanks
I’m glad you asked, after looking it up I don’t think it’s a weed. I think it’s Purpletop Vervain good for pollinators. I might keep it now 😂 🌱
The purple flower looks like verbena, if so worth keeping...
Hi …the tall purple plant is not a weed….it is Verbena Bonariensis…I have it growing in my garden too…mine is about 4-5ft high now. I planted it last year. It is a perennial plant and dies down and then comes back the following year. Looks very pretty in my cottage garden. Good luck with your plot it is coming along nicely 😊👍
The Verbena is certainly worth keeping - it will attract pollinators to the plot.
