I believe that you can honestly say that you failed as a parent if your own child your own flesh and blood believes that you like everyone better than them. Seriously it makes me sad
Totally agree. Sheldon's mom may be a religious keener, but she is at least a loving, dedicated parent. ❤
Totally agree, Leanard's mom was horrible.
I love Sheldon mother❤😂
Unless you're a heartless sociopath like Leonard's mother.
I think Beverly might be my favourite character in this show 😂
The fact that Mary actually reads Sheldon’s theories and pays attention to his work despite not believing in it speaks volumes about both her intelligence and the support she has for her son. It’s honestly really sweet. I also like to believe she understands it both because Sheldon taught her and she was able to understand his nearly indecipherable language because she is also naturally gifted. That’s how a mother’s support should be like, she shows interest and learns to somewhat care for something she didn’t originally because her son does and she loves him.
Beverly should take some notes.
Mary Is a really good mum
Mary is one of my faves characters. Always funny, but always showing love, acceptance and great smarts.
Beverly, I love that she brings the female Sheldon to the program, not Amy. As tolerant as we are of Sheldon, I feel the same with her. She is funny and acts as dettached as Sheldn does, struggling with human connection and trying her best. I love how she and Sheldon understand each other. I think they made a great character script for this one.
Now, Mary ate the cake. In both TBBT and Young Sheldon. She is beyond amazing!
@@323azteca I agree, but I don't see many people who share our opinion sadly
This just made me realize that mary couldve been another good scientist but their religious background destroyed any oportunity of that. Doesnt matter how intelligent you are if youre only allowed to read one book :(
@@cottonuwu3167 IDK Why you are framing it as a bad thing. As someone who's really passionate about sciences, there's nothing wrong with choosing a different path in life! Just because she can it doesn't mean she HAS to be. She found what makes her happy and that is what matters most

It's clear Sheldon's mom *knows* who Freud is and neatly summarizes his theories. That little bit just slides through.
And also that she read the book because Sheldon sent her, which is a nice touch
No one ever said Mary Cooper was a stupid woman. It's just that her deep rooted Christian faith is the lens through which she views the world
Hilarious you used the words slides through when she talked about crawling back in 😂
The most unrealistic part is penny knowing who freud is
freud pffft. maslow is better.
The problem with Beverly is that being good at analyzing human behaviors doesn't necessarily make you a good psychiatrist
A good psychiatrist wouldn't insult people, ridicule their beliefs, enrage them...etc
Yeh, they would have empathy for people.
Psychiatrist aren't people pleasers lad, Beverly can be as unkind to others as she wishes, she's not harming anyone.

These two talented veteran actresses deserve their own show playing neighbours or in laws again or friends or sisters. It would be a riot, I tell you!
Man that would be surreal. It's a shame we didn't have many episodes of them being together.
It's funny for a few scenes but it would get old real fast.
Liked their interactions much more than all the clips and few episodes that I saw of this series.
Christine Baranski plays a character on a show called "The Gilded Age" Her character is often brutal to those around her. Almost like the good doctor was thrown back in time to the late 19th century. Perfect for the part is this show was the audition.
Grace and Frankie 2.0
I'm as atheist as can be, but I'd still choose Mary Cooper over Dr Hofstadter in a heartbeat.
Mary is always there for her kids.

@@tammyclay62 more like only for sheldon
I have always thought that, even if Sheldon says that he would have love to have a mother like Beverly, I'm glad he didn't, he would have turn out some kind of psychopath or serial killer, detached from humanity and feelings. Leonard is lucky to be a very kind person, even with all the emotional baggage
I love how this show deliberately had a loving/caring mother like Mary raise non-human, non-emotional Sheldon. And how Beverly (who's just like Sheldon) raises a sweet, kind guy like Leonard. But as you say, it's better they were raised by their opposites. However, I do really feel for Leonard. That guy is emotion-starved
Interesting to think about
Ikr... I actually salute Leonard for turning out to be a very bright man. He is smart, kind and understanding. It's extremely hard to remain like that when you have Beverly and Sheldon in your life.
Actually I think Sheldon may have been more normal because Beverly would have probably not indulged him for all his nonsense at the expense of the other kids. He'd have probably understood he wasn't special.
@@PetraBabulal well yeah, l supposed if we compare the two Sheldon is ok. Thanks to the cooper family. I remember when mrs Debbie wolowitz died, I can see the sympathy he had for Howard.
"What Bull dropped that on the barn floor?"
I'm dying!!!
I heard that and thought, well, being a born and bred guy from NYC, there's no way I'd have come up with that line. But, I am going to do my utmost to remember it for whenever I need to reply to a friend who says something wacky.
To be fair Sigmund Freud didn't have much empathy either, kind of sensing a pattern.
The thing is, the only person who could ever be happy in Dr. Beverly Hofsteder's vicinity is Sheldon.
Which, in and of itself, explains soooooo much about how terrible of a person she is.
And that's good writing.......
_Dr_ Hofstadter lol
I don't know I'm pretty sure I could
At least Sheldon's mother encouraged him, cannot say the same for Leonard's mother. .
No she didn't
She was the reason he missed out on good opportunities many times as a kid. Young Sheldon shows how great of a dad George Sr. was
" She likes everybody better than she likes me! "
This is played for laughs but it's actually sad af.
Penny’s expressions during this scene were priceless
That’s the problem with Leonard’s mom.
She follows Sigmund Freud’s hypotheses. Most of them have been disproven.
Yeah never thought I’d be agreeing with the religious lady but any “Psychiatrist” who writes books on and believes in Freud’s theories is stupid
Freud is widely discussed in the field of psychology, but there's no science or research to back up what he says. They are just theories. His theory involving the Oedipus complex originated from having a sexual dream about his six-year-old daughter. His "explanation" for this can be summed up to, "My daughter must be projecting her sexual desires onto me and that's why I had that dream!"
In short, Freud is full of shit.
@@seacolorsc Is there evidence to back up that? Because if it's true that's beyond fcked up. I have my doubts because Oedipus Complex is technically about boys and their mothers, the one about girls and their fathers is called Elektra Complex.
To be fair, large chunks of Mrs Cooper’s holy book have been disproven too.
Eh... not really, in fact t, there's a lot of archaeological evidence backing it up
I met Christine Baranski a few times in the early 90s, before she was really famous. She frequented the place I worked and was always so nice, obviously very different than some of the stern, uppity and snarky characters she has played on screen. Her late husband, who often joined her, was an actor too, a very funny man in his own right. I’ve always admired her work and wish her the best.
Married to actor Matthew Cowles, wasn't she?
Two completely opposite people....what could go wrong 😂
Hell could freeze over making a Cold Day in Hell
Not just ''opposite'' but from completely different worlds and backgrounds...
That could have gone better, had they not been so intolerant and more respectful of the other’s point of view

Mary is the best! She NEVER loses an argument 🤣🤣
In An* Actually No Wait An Is Ok
Yes she does. She's clearly wrong. There's no evidence that Jesus or God or anything supernatural exists, when she falls back to fallacious arguments she loses
It is quite surprising that such a renowned scientist would behave like that. You’d think her advanced education would have given her ways of being more tactful.
You want reality or funny TV?
Dont underestimate the woman that gave birth and handled Sheldon for that many years.
@@Flikanik I was talking about Leonard’s mother, the psychiatrist.
It's her personality, not the education that is the problem.
This is everyday condescension for neurosurgeons.
I love the Mary could hold her own with Leonards mom
2:15 look at Penny's eyes... she just had a silent "Daaaaamn"
That's sooooo true!!! She's so good!!!
“Subtle, Mom. Real subtle.” Subtlety is definitely not Dr. Hofstetter’s forte! Hahahaha!
Hold on. Are you the Reddit user by the name of peterfonda3? Because 1 month ago a user by that name said that was Penny's last name on Reddit exactly the way you wrote it
Chuck Lorre and company nailed this. Two veteran actresses (2 of my actual favorites) who nail their parts.
I wish these moms had more time on the show. Their interactions are not only hilarious, but an excellent lesson in social interactions, communication, personalities.
Frued's actual theories are largely discredited. He was the founder of psychiatry, allowed the discipline to be taken seriously, but his theories were not very scientific or based in facts. Fortunately, Beverly is a parody of a psychiatrist and not a real person, so her failure to correct this misconception on Mrs. Copper's part just means she's bad at debate. Which, fair.
Beverly is canonically a Freudian
Both characters are parody’s of their respective beliefs; that’s the joke.
Mrs. Hofsteder treating others with contempt is her way of masking her own misery.
Yea, but, not much of a mask. Sheldons mom was certainly a happier person.
Excuse me, it's doctor Hofstadter 😂
@@NihongoGuy Not really. If you follow the entire character arc, she gets into the religious nuttery as a result of Sheldon's sister nearly dying. It really is a superstitious drive for the beginning of it. She talks about it later on.

😂 they're hilarious together. Leonard's mother is so condescending to everyone that it borders on narcissistic.
I thank goodness that we had Laurie's daughter as Mary. The transition from older to younger, and now looking back from younger to older Mary, just makes everything synch up so perfectly.

Laurie Metcalf was great as Mary Cooper whenever she appeared on this show. For the "Young Sheldon" spinoff, the part was played by Zoe Perry, Laurie's daughter. Seems like appropriate casting in that case.

Redundant take: Laurie Metcalf is always a phenomenal actress. I see her face, hear her voice, take her all in here as Sheldon’s mom and no part of me references her as Jackie Harris, Roseanne’s sister or as any other role she’s played. When you can play characters so well that you’re perceived as a literally different human each time (we know that Jackie and Mary are 180 degrees from each other), you’re truly gifted. 💛 Always loved her, always will.

Be honest, if they gave us the twist that Sheldon was actually Beverly son, you wouldn’t question it
I would believe if Leonard was just Sheldon’s older brother by like 2 yrs or smth
That's a prime time drama twist that I've seen on multiple programs, not traditional sitcoms.
If that were the case, then Leonard would probably be a youth pastor instead of an applied physicist
That would be wilder considering they once maked out
*"Ughh!"* 😂😂😂 Beverley is the mother Sheldon should've had.
I was completely with Beverly on this one

@@scottbuckley823 How did Mary’s love guide him exactly … and on the other hand, how did Beverly’s harshness guide Leonard?
Then he would have been SO much worse than he is. Beverly, for all her brilliance, doesn't have a soul. If he had been mothered by her, he would never have been able to connect with people later on his life.
They’re both fictional characters.
However, in real life, I’ve seen debates of people like Leonard’s mom and Sheldon’s mom. And every single time the “scientist” gets angry for not winning.
