I still use Topre almost daily as my keyboard for work! At the end of the day, the tactility is coming from rubber domes, but as long as you can get past that fact, these switches sound/feel unique and provide a typing experience you can't replicate with the MX ecosystem.
@@TAZAKEY The worst part about Topre is the price and the lack of flexibility. When I eventually go full custom keyboard, I want it to be an angled, column stagger 6x4 (or thereabouts) ergo with thumb modifiers AND in Colemak DH, too. As far as I know, that's just not possible within the Topre ecosystem, especially for under $150 USD. I wish there was an MX switch body that could have Topre-like parts inside it. Then I could just hot-swap MX-Topre's into my current RK61 to give them a feel.
It does have some qualities of a membrane keyboard, but I can assure you it's a much more refined keypress. I feel like Topre is actually smoother than what you would find in MX switches (and generally more tactile). The tactility is very pronounced, but also collapses quickly the further you get into the keypress. Having gone through so many other MX-style keyboards, I still use Topre as my daily driver. It's probably one of my favorite switches of all time🌞! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
The main difference is that the PFU limited edition has 45g domes while this one has 55g. The PFU domes would be a closer weight to an HHKB (also a PFU product), while the 55g version would feel heavier to type on. I bought this one in 55g to leave myself room to buy an HHKB later at 45g hahaha Not sure if that is good advice or not though 🌞
I know the the true sound is distorted because it's being picked up by a microphone and played through speakers, but am I crazy for thinking "for being silent switches, this keyboard actually seems really noisy"?
It's quieter in person, but you're not crazy in saying that this not a completely silent keyboard! It's about as loud as an average rubber membrane keyboard, so you wouldn't have any issues using this in an office setting. Comparing it to stock Topre though is where we can see how this is actually silenced - the upstroke of the switch becomes this softer "thud" compared to the stock switch which is more like a "clack". Thank you for the comment!! 🌞
55g Topre is 55g in Gateron terms as well 😁 Topre is really hard to compare to MX switches, but I feel it's maybe closest to Gateron blacks even though they're completely different on paper. Thanks for watching!
@@Hirza.Barizi No problem! Hmmm... I have a strange soft spot for Topre so I always come back to it. I still use Topre everyday as my work keyboard. I would say the tactility of the Boba U4Ts is arguably more pronounced than Topre, but still two very different typing experiences!
Dang first topre sound test that I actually enjoyed
Glad that you enjoyed it 😁
Actually silent while keeping that topre sound. Noice!
No matter how many MX switches and keyboards I try, I always come back to this one as my daily driver. Thank you for watching!! :- )
sounds like dropping lego and small rocks
nice! love the classic sound and style; and that it is full size. just missing a numb pad?
There is a version with the numpad!
This has been my keyboard for work over the last 4 years 😌
@@TAZAKEY Would you say it's suitable for typing at 180WPM at 3AM with someone in the next room from you ~2 metres away and not waking them up?
flipped spacebar LET’S GOOO
when i think of thock it’s the boba u4t for me - i’m building a keyboard with them soon. hope it turns out great
The boba U4Ts are on my radar too - solid choice I think!!

@@TAZAKEY i ended up using durock t1s instead. they're not very thocky but i do love a clacky keyboard
@@gabrielflorendo2334 Very nice :- ) I haven't tried those out myself but definitely on my radar!
What switch/keyboard do you think of when you hear "thock"?
Let me know in the comments!
@AmpieMaker W-E me too 😁
just subscribed, your content is sick bro keep it up
i defo think of holy pandas or boba u4ts when i think of thock
Thank you for the kind words :- )
I haven't personally tried those but they're definitely on my radar as well!
Damn that's loud.
Silences the upstrock, but definitely not silent!
Thank you for watching! 🌞
Ironically these sound more mechanical than any other mechanical switch I've heard, and in a good way, too.

One of the best sounds I stg
I agree - I daily drove this board for work over the last 4 years!
Wow!!!!! That's exactly sound of switches I'm looking for... Any types of akko that seems to this?
No, unfortunately not. This sound is pretty unique to Topre and electrocapacitive switches like Niz!
Thank you for your question :- )
@@TAZAKEY Well.. time to invest money in switches! To u for your answers and videos.
@@mayortomsoy you need to get these prebuilt topre keyboard unfortunately...cant get topre switches to use on cherry mx compatible boards..
been looking at getting one of these ,but I'm afraid it will have that membrane feel to it. is it still smooth like a mechanical one?

@@TAZAKEY hmm, interesting. I might have to take a look at getting one of those. Thanks!
No problem! Also consider the HHKB (if you can live with the layout). I'm thinking of picking one of those up myself later this year..
Wow, that sounds sooooo deeeep. Uhmmm I don’t really know what switch I think of when I hear thocktho
Experimenting with different switches until you find your favourites is part of the fun :- )

when i think thock, i think jelly epoch

what's the height of that damn thing? Does a standard 1 inch wrist rest work with it?
I'm not at home unfortunately to check, but it should be about 1.5cm high.
How heavy are 55 gr Topres in Gateron terms?

I don't like the sound. There's a high pitched scratch or something.
Topre's not for everyone! There is a bit of scratchiness and rattle for sure, but I personally really love Topre 🌞
@@TAZAKEY Yes I agree 👍. It all comes down to personal preference.
I hear my 45g topre with a little more bass 😂
