I've been crocheting over 40 years, and there is always something new to learn! My philosophy is that I need to enjoy to process. If it's not enjoyable, I let it go. I tried the C2C stitch and hated working it, so I've never completed a project with it (and probably never will). Amigurumi - made a few for the grandkids, hate the whole process...I avoid it like the plague 😂 I just discovered overlay crochet, and have already completed 1 with 2 more on the way. It's so much easier than it looks - if you love colorwork and simple stitches, this one is for you! Tunisian, meh. I learned a few basic stitches, and could use it if I needed to, but I'm not really inspired by it. At least at this point in my journey. Granny squares? I've made sooooo many. Easy and versatile, and yes sewing them together is the worst part lol. If you do the continuous granny square blanket, it's technically 1 square. Easy and fun, although it does get tedious as it gets bigger one round can take forever at the end!). I'm sure there are techniques out there I haven't tried, but I'm not too worried about it. Every new project teaches something and adds to our knowledge!

I have done all of them, BUT, I have crocheted for more years. Lol
The one that I haven’t completely done, and will never do, is the C2C with charts and color work. Nope. No way. I do the stitch, but in variegated yarn. No counting, charts, multiple balls attached. Omggg does that sound HORRIBLE!
I do want to say I would most encourage you to try Tunisian. Because it is just so enjoyable. It’s not tedious. It’s FAST. And meditative. And very satisfying. And easy. When you first learn, you get so excited because it’s just so fun! And you don’t want to stop. But I always land back in regular crochet because it’s my comfort zone. 😊

I agree on your choices. I can’t crochet in rounds Not interested in amigarumi. I love Tunisian. Made a stocking. Want to make a granny square now. I think the granny square chicken is cute. I never even heard of cornet to corner crochet before.

7 months into my crochet journey, I do not enjoy joining granny squares together. But I have found that I can "join as you go" and weave in the final round of the square to the final round of the last square(s)! It is so much more enjoyable!
Gotta check out that mosaic crochet!

Thanks for putting yourself out there! I tried baby booties thinking how hard could it be….😅but Ohmygosh getting them the same size was a challenge 😅
I tried amigurumi and got hooked immediately! I love working with blanket yarn! (But you’re right-SO many parts 😂)
I stopped making anything else for a while. I’ve recently picked up my worsted weight yarn again and remembered how much I love that too! There are so many different things to discover in this craft!

4 out of 5 I am with you on. But I do love granny squares and have made quite a few granny square blankets. You got to try it. Not hard at all. And they’re beautiful 😊

I love crocheting. I have done some of the stitches you mentioned, but I have not successfully cabled. I haven’t done the Amagurumi either.

The only one you've mentioned that I HAVE done is the Granny Square. There is so much to learn! I've tried making the little characters with all the pieces (don't know how to spell it) and my arthritic hands don't like it. I enjoyed your video and look forward to working up some of your patterns!

I want to learn the ripple stitch. But out of all 5 things you mentioned I have only done granny square😅

I’ve done all these. I actually find Tunisian crochet a bit faster. The stitches are made differently than regular crochet so you can actually build up the height pretty quickly depending on the yarn and the pattern. I would say give it a try and make a dishcloth or something.
C2C is my least favorite, but that’s because I tend to get distracted and then forget where I was at and realize that I’ve somehow put a weird stairstep or something into it my project, and then I have to rip it back.

I have been crocheting for nearly 50 years ... I have not done C2C or mosaic. Tunisian is so much fun and tons of stitches... Granny squares are where I started. Check out Toni Lipsey. She has a join as you go technique that was life changing with granny squares.

Thanks for putting yourself out there. Can I recommend a small octopus to start your amigurumi journey? It's fairly easy and fast. Also, would love to see a series. I have never done mosaic crochet.

I made 2 c2c shawls. It isn't that tedious but I took a while to remember the steps as a friend showed me who had done many blankets and her own designs... for her it was so easy, lol

I am terrified to try c2c but want to learn bc ive seen such gorgeous blankets, love doing amigurumi and always looking for new patterns, don't know how to Tunisian stitch, don't know how to mosaic crochet, and I have only ever granny squared once, it was a king size blanket of sunflowers. Brown for the seed pod, yellow for the flower, and green on my boarder, it took me 3 months and all my free time, was a gift to my sister for her wedding and it got tossed in her closet, and as I haven't talked to my family in 6 yrs due to toxicity, my Grammy told me she doesn't have it anymore. I haven't made a granny square since. I also can't read charts and have been crocheting for 10 yrs.

Granny square patterns do have “join as you go”, which does away with 40 squares laid out you do have to sew together!

I don't know the first 4. My mom taught me how to granny square and I made a blanket as my first project. Then I didn't do it for years, and forgot how to get it started...LOL LOL

I can do and love amigurumi, mosaic, tapestry, grannies etc but I have yet to conquer a chevron pattern. There is something in my brain that prevents me from understanding it. I may try again at some point but, for me, its not that important and since I like what I can/ am willing to do its not even a thing.

I have never done 4 of your 5. I've been making granny squares since I was about 7 years old! I really want to learn Tunisian Crochet. I've purchased some beautiful Tunisian hooks to encourage me to learn. The biggest thing I don't know how to do is any of the Foundation Crochet Stitches. I just don't see the point. I'm 62 years old and I've been crocheting since I was 6. The basic crochet stitches have served me just fine all these years, I don't see why I need to suddenly use "foundation" stitches. I've tried to do them, I just don't get it!

I thought Star Stitch was mini-tunisian.

    • @SpottedHorseDesign

I can see how it’s considered mini Tunisian although I’ve never thought of it as such.
