Thanks for addressing hyperpigmentation associated with KP! I've had severe KP for so long that most of what appear to be bumps on my skin are actually just scars and hyperpigmentation from _past_ bumps. Don't think I've ever tried any form of vitamin A for my whole body, so thanks for recommending the OTC retinol lotion. I'll give it a go and see what happens.

First of all thank you for this very informative video Dr. I deal with KP on my upper arms. I don’t really notice new/raised bumps for about 9 months but the prior bumps have now turned to flat bump shaped discolorations and then there’s an overall darker discoloration to half of my upper arm. Will the otc retinol lotion alone possibly help that or would vitamin C possibly be worth a try also?

I´ve never seen or met a person that could get rid of it... Always thousends of videos from dermatologists that try to help and say how to fix this. Loved that you mentioned, that you cannot get rid of it completely. My personal dermatologist also says that you can only fix the roughness when touching the skin (NOT the way it looks), and that is true. Expirienced it myself.. Urea is the way to go but if i would stop using it... after one to two days it feels the same. It never changed the way it looks, what is the actual problem.

In the past I've had some luck with nizoral shampoo in reducing the appearance, but I think a moisturizer cream has been what's missing. I don't like moisturizers, I hate the feeling on my skin, but I guess I'll just suck it up because my body is clearly crying out for moisturizer. Do you think tretinoin is a good treatment for keratosis pilaris? I have it really bad on my butt and back and I think it’s gotten worse as I’ve tried to treat it. I don’t know if acids just don’t work for me but I think I also may have irritated it a few months ago and now it’s as bad as ever. I don’t know if I should stop using everything but Eucerin Roughness Relief Lotion and wait for it to heal or if I can keep using the CeraVe SA Body Wash I just got. I started it 6 days ago and I’m just so red. I’m also afraid to use only a moisturizer because I easily get acne like bumps if I don’t exfoliate my butt area.

    • @user-ii4rq5ko3x
      @user-ii4rq5ko3x Год назад +1

It works great. I use tretinoin 0.1 on my face. Once a week, I treat my arms to a bit of tret mixed in with a bit of moisturiser. It’s obviously expensive but a little dot goes a long way and using it as little as once a week is really helpful. I also by glycolic acid lotion designed for the face but use it on a cotton pad to sweep my arms then apply Eucerin 10% or CeraVe SA lotion after the glycolic. I find the eucerin works best but I mix them up so the arms get a little salicylic acid every now and again. I keep my eucerin next to my bed and religiously apply it on my arms every single night without fail. I also use it in the morning sometimes. Consistency is key with KP. What could help as well is when you get home, change from jeans/trousers into soft materials like cotton joggers or pyjamas so your butt doesn’t get aggrevated by denim and other rough materials and the skin gets to breath. Any questions, please ask. I’ve been treating my KP for years and it never comes back unless I get a bout of depression and neglect my self care routines. Just to conclude, urea is brill, but use it every day if you can and if you can aford to use tret, use that too. ☺️

hello! I have KP paired with rlly bad pigmentation (I am white and the pigmentation is a permanent darker/medium brown that stays the same even in the winter)-- I always chalked it up to sun damage, however I'm rlly not sure. It covers the majority of my shoulder and only on one. The KP is mainly only concentrated on the hyperpigmentation area, but still there on the fair areas, however are more red. Is this still KP? It doesn't look like the usually KP pictures I see on the internet in the terms of the dark hyperpigmentation areas, but the bumps match up? I won't be able to see a dermatologist for a few months until I'm home from college. I'm not really worried that its serious because I've had it for so long, and a few months ago I went to get a flu shot and the nurse very clearly saw it and didn't say anything like "oh have you gotten that checked out," but also I was there for a flu shot so idk. Anyways-- any insight would be appreciated!!

I live in a very humid state, am 38 and my KP is all over my arms.it spread from the shoulders and my upper arms down to the wrists. I feel so frustrated. I've tried many things. Luxury items to drugstore. It's gotten a little better after a month of aggressive treatment but it's still there and making me want to hide my arms. I'm in the beauty industry and it's unprofessional looking as well as hideous.

Keto diet helps to reduce/remove this problem. Check information about it and the main cause Hyperinsulinemia. The rest of the possible causes: dairy/gluten/eggs intolerance/ lack of vitamin D and vitamin A. You are welcome.😎

I will actually destroy you for recommending keto on a skincare video. Keto will not clear skin. At all. The reason KP happens is a build up of keratin. Eating fucking eggs does not cause keratin production, and if it did, that would be a good thing.

After years of dealing with KP since I was young, I cut dairy out after I became very lactose intolerant and also developed an allergy to dairy and, unexpectedly, my arms cleared up. It felt amazing because the first time I ever had smooth arms. I still get some on my thighs but I also have some issues with eggs, gluten and preservatives which I have once in a while… so they could be causing flare ups.

It could be dyshidroric eczema. If you google pictures you could compare with your issue and see if it’s similar. I have KP on my arms but DE on my toes (especially inbetween the toes). They can look similar I guess. DE will first appear as clear fluid filled little bumps and over a few days, they will crust up and turn red.

I've been having such bad panic attacks because of this. I just wish a doctor would say "yes it's definitely just KP, you're fine".
I had a sudden KP outbreak on my shin a few weeks ago after not washing my sheets for a while. I freaked out, took a much-needed shower, and washed all my bedding. Unfortunately I think it was mostly triggered by the dry cold air here in Colorado. It started showing up on my other leg, with some redness all over my body, which freaked me out, so I went to Urgent care. They said it was not Cellulitis (my biggest fear at the time) and gave me a topical steroid and oral steroid, both of which did nothing. I've also used antibacterial body wash with no effect.
I tried a humidifier but I used tap water, ran it non stop for a couple days while using my table fan, and my carpet wasn't the cleanest, so it gave me a sharp pain in my throat (near the lymphnodes on my collarbone, like the outside, not to swallow), possibly due to allergens or dust mites I'm guessing. After stopping using the humidifier I haven't felt that pain since.
Now I'm trying Amlactin lotion and Neem supplements, and trying to stay positive as I'm sure stress has caused a lot of these issues. I'm moving soon and starting a new job, so going to a dermatologist isn't an option for another couple months. I also bought a humidifier/air purifier combo and plan to use Distilled water only when that arrives Friday. Been eating healthier as well but the random itching/burning sensations are scary when they happen. No pain to touch and doesn't look fungal or bacterial, or like hives either.

@@jerzeygirl1280 Explain why the hair loss on my lower legs has caused the KP to vanish? The keratin gets stuck to the hair and builds up, creating the rough bump and irritates the folicle causing the redness. I'm not saying the hair is the cause of the sticky keratin, that has to be something else. But when the hair is removed, there is nothing left for the keratin to stick to. Therefore, no more bumps, no more red dots, no more visual problem. Trust me i know from experience. I am one of the lucky people that has it everywhere on my body. Stomach, chest, arms, face, legs, bum, back, scalp. Where i have lost hair on my body, the KP no longer exists.

40 y.o. guy here, same Asian skin tone as you, have had KP on my arms and back for as long as I remember. I used 2% salicylic acid Neutrogena body wash and applied Cerave SA lotion daily - with very minimal (maybe 15%) improvement after 6 weeks of use. I was tempted to switch to lactic acid (AmLactin) or urea-based lotion but instead opted for the "big guns" after I did my "research" on RUclips. As I do not have a dermatologist-friend (they can be quite cliquish), I asked my non-derm friend (we are both cardiologists) to prescribe me 0.1% tretinoin. Being the cheapskate that I am, I got the generic version (brand name is Taro) from Amazon pharmacy which is uber cheap but smells and feels cheap af (I am assuming Retin-A is odorless and absorbs better). 1 month into therapy of using it 2 days/week I have noticed modest improvement (maybe 35%) in my KP and surrounding erythema. I am optimistic that I will get better results with time and once I use it more frequently.
Dr. Sugai, my question is, do you recommend using tretinoin for KP? If so, is there a limit to the area that you can apply tretinoin? I have KP mostly on my upper arms and upper back - which is easily 4x the area of my face.

Hi because of your kidneys I dt think u should use trenitonin for your body . Use the cerave sa lotion morning & night & the cerave bar soap but if u really really feel u should use retinoid or trenitonin for your body maybe opt for bakuchiol which is safer and won’t affect your kidneys & liver

I’ve always found Urea works far better than SA or LA. Lactic acid is dificult to find in a high enough dose (a derm once told me there’s a shortage of the ingredient as it’s used a lot on beauty/make-up products as well as skincare products so makeup companies always buy it all). Try using urea (eucerin 10% is brill) every single day and the tret twice a week. You need to balance out the tret with some moisture as the tret is drying. Using both will give you much better results.
