Why give attention to these women who are clearly trying to play victim where they are not harmed in any way, unlike the Urkainians? If it were the other way around and she was Ukranian, then she would have been shot instantly. I m sure that when the Ukrainian army is gone then they have nothing but praise for their beloved putin.

      Great coverage, as always!
It does make me wonder: under the laws of war, the resources of an occupied region cannot be used for the benefits of the occupier, but they can (and should) be used to maintain / rebuild infrastructure in the occupied region. So from my reading, Ukraine would have full rights to tax all gas passing through the Sudzha pumping station, and if Russia refuses to pay, diverting a percentage of the gas to Ukraine to cover their debt, so long as the funds went to reconstruction in the Kursk People's Republic. So Russia blows up a building, bridge, or whatnot, Ukraine could rebuild it with Russian gas money. And surely Europe would take Ukraine's side in that dispute, only crediting Russia for delivering the non-taxed portion of the gas.
I wonder if they'll end up taking that approach?
The whole thing will be moot regardless at the end of the year when the transport contracts expire. Wherein, by all means, reverse the pumps, pump high pressure air into the Bratstvo pipeline at maximum power while the Russian pumping station at Mari El is off, do maximal damage (to the pipeline, Mari El pumping station, and Urengoy gas field), haul off the valuable pumping to safety, and start legal proceedings to seize it as part of reparations. Sad that Urengoy is an older gas field without that much life left in it anyway...

In November 2021 CIA director Burns visited Moscow where a pact was made similar to Molotov-Ribbentrop. Putin agreed not to invade NATO and Burns promised that US will assure no strikes into Russian territory.
On Aug 8 Putin made an address where he characterized the invasion as "provocation". He was laught upon by entire world like was is talking about. Putin knew precisely what he was talking about: these words were directed at Biden administration you promised and broke your promise. Unfortunately for Putin Biden has been defunkt for a month.
Most telling is the fact that once Biden was out Ukraine immediately launched the offensive.

I really want to shell every place before it is occupied just to bring home to the women and children what a hell Germany has inflicted upon the world.” Nor was Polk alone in expressing vindictive sentiments. “My soul is bubbling with joy,” wrote Second Lieutenant Preston Price to his family. “Why? And while "nothing good happens there to you" was common knowledge, the details and the amount of cruelty were almost certainly not. Most people claiming they did not know what exactly happened in the camps is probably not a lie - but of course it's likely that a lot of people who did know lied.
Also, there's a difference between having the knowledge of "those are hard labor camps", or "they're working people to death", or even "they're killing people there" - and seeing it with your own eyes. So showing this will still have a big impact even on people that may have been fully in the know.

      1. Not "being interested in politics" is/was a mean of self-preservation in an authoritarian, police state. You'll hear this phrasing a lot if you watch street interviews, whether in Moscow or in remote places in the Federation (look for Daniil Orain 1420).
      2. What did conflict with the journalist's ethic is not presenting visual testimonies to, or inform those civilians, it is to ask them questions about it (or recording their reaction), while having occupier soldiers in arms around, even after both parties denied being actively intimidating/intimidated.
All things considered, it is a bit like being interrogated by the police without the assistance of a lawyer.

The civilians are probably not under direct pressure, but it is obvious that the presence of people with guns alters anyone, anywhere. Even when they are your own people, one changes demeanor naturally to the situation, so an occupying force of any kind will affect what people say, regardless of how well the occupiers behave. Its basic psychology, and why prisoner intervews always is understood as passively pressured, regardless of interview tecniques and how well the prisoner is taken care of. That said, they still are valuable for insights, as long as one keeps that dynamic in mind.

Power in Russia’s authoritarian political system is concentrated in the hands of President Vladimir Putin. With subservient courts and security forces, a controlled media environment, and a legislature consisting of a ruling party and pliable opposition factions, the Kremlin manipulates elections and suppresses genuine opposition. Rampant corruption facilitates shifting links among state officials and organized crime groups. Since the regime launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, authorities have intensified restrictions on individual rights and liberties in order to stifle domestic dissent.

9:00 As a Hongkonger, the question posed by the journalist is EXACTLY what my dad told me years ago about people, especially living under tyrannical totalitarian regimes, who don't care or apathetic about politics. One of the biggest things that Russians and Mainland Chinese have in common is that, they're so brainwashed by Putin and Xi Jinping/CCP, respectively, and/or so repressed by their regimes that they, like slaves, become more aware of their place in society and not dare to talk about politics or speak out for democracy or improved human rights. So therefore, they shun politics and their only goal is to merely earn enough money to feed themselves and live well. When they talk about certain areas in economics, publicly policy, society etc that's not doing well, they almost unconsciously avoid attributing political issues as a major factor in these failings. This type of attitude is becoming more widespread amongst Hongkongers after the failed Uprising/Anti-Extradition protest in Hong Kong back in 2019 and the Beijing implementing the "National Security" Law the following year that crushed the protests and completely dismantled any semblance of rule of law or freedom in HK. And I think this is similar to many of these Russian civilians' attitudes interviewed in this video.

Portugal. That's just the European ones I know off the top of my head. Is everyone a coward or just the people of those countries? Stop pretending you are different. You are not. Like you say, Ukraine was ruled by Russia for hundreds of years. Why was that even possible? Shouldn't the people have been attempting revolutions every day for all that time? Are they cowards? If compliance is your standard for cowardice, then yes, Ukrainians are also cowards, as are Germans, Italians, Spaniards, Romanians, Hungarians, the Portuguese, and the people of every other nation who have lived under dictatorships. The fact that you are even speaking like this shows that you are controlled by the poison of national chauvinism and are the very reason fascism is such a powerful force. Quit lambasting old ladies.
