Massive BB to prune. Nice demo on your thoughts to make this into a nice looking tree for the upcoming spring. Nice trunk on this tree also. You have to do what you have to do to make this tree into your masterpiece. Excellent video.
Hi Steve! You are so right to be wary of what is below that soil surface. Last year when I first trimmed mine after purchase, I pruned it based on what I saw which would have been an ideal height. In the spring during repotting, what a shock I got! Three extra inches of trunk before I hit the root base! I had dug in the soil but the tree had produced roots that grew up into the soil above the root base so I was fooled as to where the root base actually was. Several weeks ago, I was finally able to trim it back to the height I think will come with the one and only budding period that will happen this coming spring. My pruning took off all the individual branches leaving three trunk line stubs and only one obvious bud. It did grow well this past spring, so I expect the same next year. Fingers crossed! I'll be looking forward to seeing yours next year!
Thank you Karen. That is a cautionary tale for sure. I’m anxious, and now a bit scared to expose the root system. I’m going to rely on the luck I’ve had so far with this tree, and hope it continues through the next phase. I’m glad to have you in my audience.
I love the structure of the one that you found Steve. I also did major work on mine this fall at leaf drop. Come spring I think you’ll find they back bud readily. They also have a very fibrous root system. Nice work. Thanks, keep growing.
Nah, I know what you meant to say. That was a surprising projectile for sure. Luca was scared. Hey, thanks to Dave, we have an update on Candice. Did you get any of her trees? Thanks for being a valued audience member.
Look at that structure ! the winged ribs of the bark is very interesting. I very much appreciate the long form of your thought process whilst pruning. Thanks for this video Steve, very well done. Also, how hard is that wood on the Euonymus from a 1 to 10 do you imagine?
I was devastated. I went to the rally in Central Park. There were thousands of people. It was the first meaningful death I had ever experienced thus far in my life. It was a sad day indeed
My husband and I almost got in our car to drive to NY, but remembered we had a 1 year old toddler, which would have made it difficult. My husband is most likely the biggest John Lennon fan ever. He just finished reading 2 books about John. We have 2 entire bookshelves of Beatles books in our library. I am a HUGE McCartney fan. We have been to about 10 of his concerts. Someday I will have to tell you about my encounter with Sir Paul, which left me speechless and dumbfounded, but my husband was there to witness it, otherwise I would never have believed it myself. An encounter I will never forget.@@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai
Just got back home from Dave's bonsai. I was actually inside the PSGF greenhouse. I have two of Candice's trees. When she gets back into the world of bonsai, I will offer them back.@@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai
Good decisions Steve, the tree looks even better!!
Thank you Nigel. Your voice echoes in my head whenever I make branch selection and pruning choices, so I thank you very much!
Love the new opening and closing. Thx for posting
Thanks for noticing. Not many have mentioned it. Only one other.

Thank you Tom. So rare to find a Burning Bush with a trunk like that
Great video Steve love it 👍👍
Thank you Andy!

I can’t wait to dig into those roots. I hope I find something nice. Thank you Matt.
Great choices Steve. I like the “new” front! Mine have a lot of catching up to do to yours.
Thanks Dave. It’s finally on its way. This was a lucky find. I hope the root system doesn’t throw me a curve!
Great video. I like those pruners you use, so I got some just like them...they are really sharp and easy-to-use. That must of been a really hard wood.
I wonder what would have happened if my greenhouse roof was glass? Thanks for watching Jeanette.
Nice job Steve. It's allways difficult to chose a front when you don't see the rootbase.

It’s putting the cart before the horse! I’m hoping for a good outcome. Thank you Kennet
That looked very gratifying.
I’m diggin where you’re taking this bush, Steve!
It felt great to get this tree on its way. Thanks Billy.
Hwy Ste e, great video. Love those burning bush. Perhaps you should be wearing safety glasses?????
WOW, I need to spell check before I send.

I am getting one of her trees, but I hope to give it back to her when she is ready to jump into the world of bonsai.@@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai

It does have a very nice main structure. Now for some good secondary branching to start. The wood is pretty hard. I would say an 8
43 years ago, sad day for the world. John Lennon passed
