- Hi all, this series of 13 videos show techniques from CATIA Imagine and Shape from release V5_6R2013 (V5 R23). At the time of this post, CATIA is at release level V5_6R2018 (V5 R28) and the 3DEXPERIENCE V6 based equivalent is 2018x. So a lot of new functionality and improvements have been made since these videos were created. But the purpose remains relevant for anyone who wants to learn subdivision modeling. 00 Create Extrusion Surfaces in Side View
Create First Surface (Hood, Roof, Deck Lid)
5 picks for the Hood
5 picks for the Windshield and Roof
3 picks for the Back Glass and Deck Lid
Create Second Surface (Shoulder area of bodyside)
Make sure to visually match the picks to previously created surface edges (13 in total)

Hello Abdel, This is NOT Class A surface but Conceptual Surface. This is a preliminary stage to ideate and quickly come up with one or more themes so good design decisions are made before moving to production surface development.

But I have a hard time to move the entire extrude line set (like 0:39).
I can only move the lines separately.
Could you explain it more specifically?
Eric, once the extrude "line" is created, you either have to hit the enter key or space bar, then go into modification and trap all the vertices and move freely.

i've a question about the point displacement, i want that when i move one point the others stay stopped, but this didn't happen, ecause when imove a poitn the other also moved . is it a setting that i'm imssing? thanks
i think you must select not only one point at one time. The point you selected will change to highline.

Sorry, not sure what you are referring to. Please identify which video in the series and a time stamp.
These videos were taken in the Catia V5R22. Perhaps older versions might not have those features, but they may have similar features.
In addition, the person pulling the video may have a number of features displayed in Catia according to its own way of working. You may have these features, but you may not see them directly on the screen.
I'm using the Catia V5R20. I don't have some of the features on the higher versions. Try updating Catia to a higher version if necessary. Maybe it'il work.

I would have two questions.
1) At the very beginning of the Video/Tutorial you have created one Curve with 13 Vertices. For the first and second area you defined 5 vertices but for the thired area only 3 Vertices. How you define the number of Vertices?
2)At min 2:25 in the first video you make an Extrusion of the Surface. Why ist the result a curved contur? How did you decide to take this steps to round the Corner?
1. i think the number of the Vertices is not very strict, is based on the complicity of the contour.
the Hood is relative complicated, so use 5 vertices, and the tailgate is simple, so...
