The way I've interpreted this song is it begins with him questioning God by saying "how can He exist when so many bad things happen to the innocent?" Based on "hooray for the child that makes it through, if there's any way because the answer lies in you." If it's not your fault but God punishes you for things you don't commit then how can it be your fault and am I just supposed to give you blind faith?
He's questioning what life is for throughout his life and understands why someone would want to end it all "you see my wrists, I know you're pain"
He's struggled, he's questioned life, he understands what people are going through but at the end he finally realizes that the demons that were there were defeated by faith. There's no use in reliving the past because you "don't have to settle the score". He's been through it. He knows what it is, and God has guided him through it even if he wasn't always faithful.
But now he knows that God has done what He's done for a reason. "We all live under the reign of one King."
There's no scores to settle against anybody, there's nobody to fight, everything has happened for a reason, and only God truly knows why. We all live under the reign of one King and He will lead us to where we need to go.
Now.... I'm not particularly religious, but God Damned if this doesnt make me think about it.
