Research shows that the best way to learn a language is to have authentic experiences with it with Comprehensible Input.
Rather than boring grammar lessons, we provide free interesting listening experiences for learners of Spanish. By listening to our stories, culture explanations and games, you will get used to real Spanish as it's used in context, and develop a native-like intuition for the grammar and the vocabulary, together with a clear pronunciation. The videos try to be easy enough for a complete beginner to start picking up the language.
Comprehensible Input means that the videos try to use basic Spanish as much as possible and be easy enough for a complete beginner in the language to get the gist of the story and start picking up vocabulary. That way you'll get that i+1 necessary to make fast progress in the language.

I’ve been at it for about a year. But I started to understand quickly. Comprehensible input works. I was able to start having basic conversations after a few months, now I can speak pretty fluently about a wide variety of themes.
Well worth the time I’ve spent. I’ve made a lot of friends and spoke with people from all over the world. Very glad I started and stuck with it.

I was an engineer. I learnt French and German at school, but it all came together when I lived and worked in those countries for a while (years in France, 4 months in Germany). My French is much better than my German because I have lived here for a long time (and I married a French man😉), but German people often say how good my German is... it has stuck with me for more than 30 years (that makes me oldish!)! When I started learning Spanish, I read a lot and listened to a few of the books. When the Covid pandemic arrived, for various reasons I spent a lot less time acquiring Spanish... I've started watching and listening to Dreaming Spanish recently and, wow... everything I acquired reading is still there, and I can understand Intermediate videos (but I'm still in the silent period for speaking I think!). I started teaching English 8 years ago and met a lovely lady who introduced me to CI. I knew this was how I wanted to teach as, if you can't go to a country and pick the language up naturally there, it's the nearest way of doing it... and it's SO MUCH more interesting! It's a challenge to make yourself comprehensible whilst speaking naturally... during the pandemic, when I couldn't see my adults English learners, I started posting RUclips videos for them (good beginners and up for the moment). They enjoy/ dream of travelling and conversing with English speakers... so I try and talk about all sorts of different things. It's a challenge, but it's fun!

Comprehensible input thru your channel has been super enjoyable. I re-started my spanish language journey this past July after taking years of it in school without achieving anything close to being able to have conversations. I spent my first three months doing it the "traditional" way, like with flash card apps and speaking but eventually came across your channel and been using your method/platform since October. As of today I have about 190 hours of input and on level 3. Learning is a lot more fun since I can actually understand your videos. I'm gradually feeling I'm understanding more and more as time passes. Thanks for starting this project up! Once I achieve my Spanish goals, I want to acquire Tagalog. I hope by that time, someone creates something like this for Tagalog. I'll be reaching out to Filipino language creators about my experience with comprehensible input!

I have encountered many people over the years who learned English entirely or almost entirely from watching American television, and did not study English at a university. Several of these people were in Japan, and I'll use them as an example. All of them, compared to Japanese students of English who learned (more or less) English at high school and university, were fluent speakers of English. However, all of them, to a person, experienced a sort of fossilization of their Japanese-English interlanguage well short of sounding native-like. The individuals who studied years of English at school had a much more native-like command of English grammar, but were not nearly as fluent and comfortable conversing as the people who watched thousands of hours of American TV.
I think comprehensible input is necessary, but not sufficient, _if_ your goal is to sound as close as possible to an English L1 speaker in terms of grammar usage. In other words, I think explicit grammar instruction, along with comprehensible input, raises your interlanguage ceiling -- for the average learner. Adult brains are not baby brains.

I have read this theory but I do think that kids learn differently from adults and they lose this ability when they reach 8-9 years old. I have a friend who is trilingual. • @Keldor314
      @Keldor314 3 года назад +11

I think part of the problem is that we try to teach adults in a different way than we teach children. We seem to forget that children speak for nearly a decade before they ever even hear about things like nouns and verbs and present and past tense in elementry school! By this time, they're already completely fluent in their language, and are ready learn about the fine details and proper grammer.
But for foreign languages, we seem to want to jump into elementry school level grammer right from the beginning!
What we should be doing is paying attention to how parents and grandparents interact with and speak to young children. I remember a while ago listening in a bit as my neighbor played in the yard with her visiting grandson. I certainly don't remember the details, but the form in which she spoke gave me a realization. A bit of the conversation went something roughly along the lines of this:
"Would you like to play with your red ball? We can play with your red ball if you want."
      "No."
"Are you sure you don't want to play with the red ball? It'll be fun!"
      "No no no!"
"Alright, well, maybe we can find some lizards. Sometimes there are lizards out on the rocks. Would you like to look for lizards?"
The way she repeated words, presenting them multiple related contexts and sentence constructs made me realize that she was not just playing with her grandson, but giving him an impromptu English lesson, almost certainly without even realizing it. After that, thinking a bit more about adults talking to young children, I realized that they do this all the time! Adults are constantly teaching their kids language, mixed in with every interaction, starting with "baby babble", teaching the basic sounds of the language, and going on all the way through young childhood.
Of course, even if adults were willing to swallow their pride and accept being talked to like young children, teachers like Pablo most certainly couldn't come out to each of our houses to give each of us 3 interactive lessons a day for 3 years straight. So methods like Comprehensible Learning are a reasonable approximation of how we are taught language naturally, within the constraints imposed by being "treated like adults" and the simple fact that most of us aren't rich enough to hire a personal tutor to live with us and speak to us in Spanish for the next few years the way our parents did.
I still think there's something to be learned from the way children are spoken to, though. Repeating a new word a few times, used in slightly different but clearly related ways can both help us learn the word faster than just hearing it one time every now and then, or to show different ways to put together sentences using an already familiar word, especially around tricky things like the subjunctive. ("Would you like to play with your red ball? We can play with your red ball...") Clearly, the trick is to find a way to do it that isn't annoying to listen to.
