I truly felt for him: he's one of the most tragic characters in Soul Society: an outcast, who sees himself as a beast/monster, until dear Old Man Yama took him under his wing (that's why Komamura is so likeable, he is very loyal, respectful and despite the difficult situation (I mean when Yamamoto passed away) to honour his dear Old Captain Commander he wants to fight Ywach - even at the cost of his own life.

He's probably one of the most least interesting captains. Too bad they didn't expand Upon the realm he came from more in the manga.

His fight with Hisagi VS Tosen, and his fight with Bambi are seriously some of the best in the series. Easily.

I think this quote from Komamura is one of the most resonant things in all of Bleach.
"I was glad you did not pretend to be a saint and claim to love the world despite everything. That is why I decided that I would be your true friend. I would accept your sorrow. And I would share my joy. If you strayed I would reprimand you. If you made mistakes, I would forgive you. And when you found yourself in trouble, I would be there for you. So that you who learn to hate the world, would come to love it once more."

The panel of Komamura's sad reaction to Tousen's insults has been burned into my memory, and is one of my all-time favorite Bleach moments

I love Komamura.
Not only his design is slick and cool, but his seriousness really grounds the Gotei 13. Not every captain needs to be whimsical or quirky or sadistic, Komamura is a far more normal which is a contrast to looking so unique.
And that contrast also fits with the embarrasment he feels early on towards his appearance, and how important it is to him to develop relationships with people who don't judge him for it.
I think he has a great personality that grounds the captains and he really is the one could get along the best.

Komamura is an incredibly straightforward and honest character, and his bankai and zanpakuto in general reflect that. It’s simple, there are no tricks to it, it’s just a big guy with a big sword, the same as its wielder. It’s one of the reason’s he’s my favorite character, he’s not exactly all that complex, but he’s well constructed.
most complex structures fall under scrutiny, basic is good. integrity of a simple character beats a wishy washy complex character any day.
Literally my favorite captain, both aesthetically and philosophically. I love the theme of responsibility and manliness, the theme of being a man and loving past your friend’s mistakes. He is the coolest captain imo

Komamura is my 2nd favorite captain.
His arc and development in the series was good and I liked how he was different (literally) from the other Shinigami.
His speech to Tosen after their battle is my favorite non-fighting moment with him since it shows how understanding he is.

His unswerving allegiance to Gotei 13 and especially his subordinates makes him quite admirable even if blind loyalty is a not typically good trait. In a way it's good that his story ended the way it did, with all the warfare and losses/betrayal he saw he deserves his own measure of peace.

Komamura and Tosen have pretty poetic end to them. Tosen became more blinded ironically the moment he began to have vision. Komamura, in the end, learned the great price of revenge.

I also don't like how his Shikai is thrown aside, it could be a good weapon for long range attacks. He can extend his arm with a sword and strike a powerfull blow from distance. Or he can stomp someone, fistpunch... many things. But i guess, Kubo would need 20 years to write a good story plus Shikai and Bankai for every Shinigami.

I think Komamura is the closest captain to being truly considered "just" and "pure". He hates rule-breakers, and he absolutely loathes treachery to others as well as to oneself. I would say his ideal justice is the least tainted by bias in all of the Gotei-13. He just wantes everyone to be their best selves including himself.

Komamura has some of the best sound-bites in the entire anime series. Very few characters can deliver singular lines with as much punch as a good "Kokujo Tegen Myo'o!!!" or a good ol' fashioned "TOUSEN!!".
Every time I watch one of your character videos I start out thinking "I'm not particularly interested in this one, I'll probably get bored and stop watching pretty quickly." But I always end up watching the whole thing and come away with a new appreciation for the character.

I wish to have a Mate like Komamura. infact I wish everyone can have a mate like Komamura. Cuz for once I wanna feel Loved, I wanna feel understood and i wish when I become blinded by rage that mate is there to help me. Komamura and Tosen's friendship must go down as one the best in history.
He's probably my second favorite underrated characters in Bleach.
First off, he got the strong, silent type going in spades.

I equate him to being the Bleach version of Colossus, and _no one_ hates Colossus.
If there's one thing I _do_ dislike about him, it's that he doesn't utilize his Shikai: Tenken enough.

I liked how Kenpachi just immediately accepted what Sajin was and was cool with it. The fight win Kaname was great too, I totally agree. I didn’t care much for any of those characters but after that fight I liked them all more.

I always loved Komamura. Totally agreed that his transformation in the final arc made me gasp.
And that line of his at the end, “From the moment I set foot on this battlefield, I had already left my life behind!” What a badass.

Sajin Komamura is one of my favorite characters, it paints my to see what kubo did to him in the manga and what Klab did to him in the game
If I recall correctly, Kubo is a dog person so the bit about having soft spot for Komamura may have something to it.

I was never a huge Sajin Fan. I do tend to like rebellious and outside the box type of thinking characters. In fact when I first watched bleach I remember really just thinking he was one of my least favorite characters, but Looking back on it now I do really appreciate how loyal he is to the people he’s close too and his relationship with kaname. I also agree that the battle with Hisagi and Tosen in the arrancar arc is very interesting and undeniably great for all three characters

I really love the buddhist aspect of komamura's ark, I think it is said to be something with the animal realm with is a realm of sufferance for sinners, and the way he sinned he become in this real definetly..
My impression with the fight against the fraccion was that he was trying to show ikkaku that the mission has highest priority hence the immediate use of his bankai.

@@thevisionaryv8492 you people who call yourself Bleach fans say some really dump shit sometimes and you miss the point of a lot of things Kubo do , revenge is a strong theme in Bleach , Komamura chastised Tosen for pursuing revenge, but when he himself lost someone dear to him he did the same thing as Tosen and he payed the price for it.
His race and back story should have been expanded on, especially through the TYBW. I wish and hope they will do an expansion on him either through more Bleach or BTW universe.
Sajin would have been better recieved if he hadn't been bodied by Kenpachi so early in the series. The fact that, even with the help of another Captain, he couldn't even make Kenpachi sweat really hurt his credibility as top-tier member of the Gotei 13. There really is no coming back from that.
Joe1887 he got beat by Kenpachi after ken had been beaten by Ichigo pre bankai... this just put him to the bottom of the captains for strength... but what makes it worse is that his bankai IS strength... this makes his whole bankai questionable... barely a one trick poney... it’s sad because I liked komamoras spirit and philosophy.. so sad.
@@thomascoolidge2161 he was never bodied by him he went after yama their fight didnt have a conclusion in my opinion kenpachi in the ss arc is really way to hyped he was at that point mid at best a shikai ichigo got a tie against him without bankai i would say he was at the same level of strength as sajin in ss arc maybe abit stzonger of course he can endure alot more than sajin that would give him an edge

One issue I kinda always had with Komamura is how he just looks really nice and handsome, like a proper good boy youd love to pet and give treats too. I think his story would feel more impactfull if he really looked like a monster with dark shabby fur and a more crazed evil look. Either that, or play up more of a bad stigma around the beast realm earlier in the story

I kinda like the fact that he dont die nor get to fight Yhwach, I saw it as a punishment for his hypocrisy, showing that straying from his original path didnt get him closer to avenging Yamamoto and being turned into a animal was a worst punishment than dying, even if his intentions were good.
After he turns into a dog and Iba comes to pick him up is for me one of the best moments of the TYBW arc as it shows that Komamura inspired the same loyalty on others that Yama inspired on him, maybe a shadow of his true path, if he had not lost himself in vengeance, anyway I always cry reading it
The talk about the thousand-year war ark made me remember it was a year of death. Shounen jumps top 3 manga. Captain, Brother, Teacher.

I always thought Kommamura's great grandfather used this same human transformation and was once one of the original members of the gotei 13. Loved his fight in the final arc i would've loved to see more about the beast realm and his backstop where Yamamoto took him in and he eventually rose up to become a captain

Finally! This video makes me happy! Thank you for doing an analysis on my favorite character in the series.
It’s a shame Kubo didn’t explore him or his Bankai more. It would’ve been awesome to see his Avatar using Kedo. Brave Souls explored this with his Lost Agent version. I would have also liked to see him using the environments to his advantage rather than just hitting things hard.
Regardless, still my favorite character.

15:11 Koma (who is Best Boy) ALWAYS releases bankai lol it feels so overkill but Tekking did a zanpakutou discussion video on him and i agree with what he says about how Koma's shikai basically feeling almost useless or something cuz it's just a smaller version of his bankai. Like might as well release the bankai and get the entire smaurai giant instead of only having phantasmal limbs.
I think there is something to be said that his vengeance doesn't seem to blind him fully. He could have gone after Yamamoto's killer, but instead he defends his comrades. I would like to think he knew how limited his time would be and still chose to save his allies.
I like to think that the big scar Iba got is from Komamamura, when he turned into a wolf and bit/scratched Iba by instinct once he lost his "human mind".
Komamura was among my favorite characters of Bleach, he had a lot of cool moments and really stood out for his morals. The end of his arc hurt quite a bit, would have love to see him do a bit more against the sternritters. Thanks for doing this character analysis.

Yes finally I can’t believe I missed it for a week haha... Dude this is so right. Sajin is such a great character. Definitely underrated and Kubo at his absolute best. I feel that very rarely the true gem characters get the attention they deserve.
Komamura one of the most diverse story arcs in the series. I know I wasn’t the only one that was sad that he had succumbed to revenge too soon, I wish he had gotten to Yhwach then his get his character ending. Also, I wish Kubo used Komamura’s end to develop Testuzaemon Iba but we can’t get everything sadly. Great video again Tommo 👍
I'd say that while both Tosen and Komamura were both out for revenge, Komamura's case is more understandable. Tosen wanted revenge and justice but worked with Aizen and the Hollows, both of which killed and harmed numerous innocent people.
Komamura wanted revenge and justice, but he didn't work with villains and the people he wanted revenge on were unquestionably evil. He also performed the Humanization Technique and put his life on the line in order to protect the Gotei 13, not just revenge.
They both desired vengeance, but they're not the same

The underrated, the underdog, but for me he was never underwhelming
the relationship between komamura tosen and hisagi is my favorite in the whole series for me, kubo tried a philosophical aproach with them where one os the apprentice of a mentor that goes down to the shadows but his teachings are really powerful, komamura really felt like tosen has the correct point of view untill he sees in reality all that justice he spoke about are because of the rage, the same rage he felt in the invasion when he transforms into a human. all that concept of justice and revenge is really really good and i love it.
also komamura is a representation of the beast realm in budhist teachings, the beast realm is where the people that can´t overcome their primal instincts are stuck, komamura and his clan represents this in the rage and revenge, his grandfather always viewed komamura as someone that doesn't accept his race because he didn't fall into rage until the war.
It’s implied that the only reason why he turned into a dog was because he gave into revenge. This implies that is he didn’t fight for the sake of revenge he could remain in that state. The state is called the ‘form of revenge’ and he said ‘so this is my punishment for giving into revenge’... so without giving into revenge he could potentially remain in that form.

When Sajin destroys that arrancar I thought it was pretty cool Reminded me of Vegeta destroying Andriod 19 to be honest so if I gotta pick a best moment for the character it would be that, plus I like his fights with Tousen and Bambi.
I thought Komamura reverting to his beast form was beautiful if not tragic. And when Iba picks him up and carries him and still reveres him as his captain, I thought Kubo made it clear that Komamura still understands language and is touched by Iba's acceptance of him. Unconditional love.

I love the take of him losing because he fell to his own revenge quest. I never thought of it that way, and it moves Kommamura up the power rankings for me in terms of interesting captains. Much appreciated!
For me I liked it. for him to actually see how tousen truly felt when he lost his friend sajin scolded kaname for betraying and taking the revenge path but there was so much corruption that when kaname says "those eyes of yours cant not see the truth that I can see" he was foreshadowing something important during the fight kaname was questioning sajin asking him how come he never thought it was strange that someone would join the very same organization that had killed his beloved friend I like the approach kubo went with sajin it's like he finally opened sajin eyes to kaname world

I really like the fact that the new Lieutenant of squad 7, he talks to animals. He's basically Cinderella. And now that hes a doggy, i feel like there could be a connection
