  • Early in 1998 CSX equipped 3 SD45-2`s with Helper Link technology for
uncoupling on the fly. They were sent on their way to the Keystone Subdivision
for testing on the west slope of Sandpatch and mostly worked east out of
Connellsville, Pa. 8952 ex SCL 2047 in "bright future" paint, 8954 ex SCL 2049
in blue-gray paint and 8972 ex CRR 3614 still in Seaboard System paint were
the 3 units. 8972 would later be repainted in "bright future". Testing lasted for a few months and we made 3 trips to photo these dinosaurs in action. On a weekday trip we were also lucky to shoot a westbound rack train climbing Sandpatch with a DRGW tunnel-motor second out. On another trip we shot an eastbound autoparts train with
a rare "yellow nose one" SD50 leading and the 45-2`s on the rear. Also rare enough,
this is a GE widecab free video! Shot on 8mm video and made with Corel Videostudio
    Pro software.
    Enjoy,

The 90's were such an incredible time on the railroad. From rare engine models to countless paint schemes! This video is a perfect example of it!!!
