Great Sounding Horn on NS 6757
Date: May 17, 2014
Location: Emmaus, Pa. (MP.30 NS Reading Line)
Time: 6:15 am.
I come out of Turkey Hill Minute Market with my 20 oz. coffee
and the scanner comes to life:
"NS Lehigh dispatcher calling 10N, NS sixty seven fifty seven... over"
train: "10N answering"
dispatcher: "Yea there 10N, take your time comin` down to Burn,
I got 23M comin` thru Bethlehem, we`ll run him out
of the hole first before we take you into Allentown"
train: "OK there Lehigh, bring `em down easy"
dispatcher: "Roger, Lehigh out"
So I beat it to Kline`s Lane for some early morning video.
I`m setting up the camera and:
"NS 10N clear E292"
Next I`m treated to the sound of this beautiful Leslie 3 chime
and the sou...

Early in 1998 CSX equipped 3 SD45-2`s with Helper Link technology for uncoupling on the fly. Conrail and CSX operated a joint business car trip in March of 1992 from Jacksonville, Fla. to Pittsburgh, Pa. Power for the train were the Conrail Executive E`s 4021-4020. C&O J3a 4-8-4 # 614 and the Chessie Safety Express came to Cumberland, Md. on the second weekend of September, 1981 for a weekend of mountain railroading at it`s best. I shot this train @ North Branch from the PPG Road Bridge (I can see myself running back to my truck), then again in Cumberland and again at Mance where, yes, it was sunny. I was the engineer on these units in 2002 from Rockwood-Brunswick. By the way it's North Branch, MD.

Good video... Miss all the vintage locomotives they used on this branch from the GP38-2s, SD40-2s ,SD45-2s to the SD 80 macs. Those were the days but they are still taking coal out of Rosebud.

The Main Line Used to be 2 tracks until it got flooded @ now it's just a passing siding
I rode the express on may 9, 1981 from cincy to toledo. on this trip, coming home to cincy, a middletown steel hot metal train, left the switch open at new miami, and the express went into the siding and smashed a de-rail. It also tore up the pilot truck sanding nozzle. I had a scanner, and the engineer up front asked the dispatcher why they had a diverging route signal. The next day, it would need the sand since it got stuck between cincy and louisville. A family lines GP38 would have to tow the express into cincy, all this during a tornado warning. I rode the safety express on may 10, 1981 from cincy to louisville. I also chased the express on the ferry run to columbus, from cincy.

I used to haul a good deal of coal and filter cake into and out of rosebud windber and "mine 27." I havnt been there in about 2 years now. I imagine the rail traffic has also taken a huge hit. Obama put this whole region in the toilet.
