    He's a very typical drunk, imo, like they said. I've never really been scared of drunk old men in Finland, because they're usually harmless and friendly. Even in cases I've received unwanted attention and comments (I'm a woman), I've also received an apology every time I've confronted them. Usually something like "I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything bad by it." Even when they've been angry and pissed off, it's usually not you they're angry at. They're angry at the world and the "system" and I think they just want to vent.
    Obviously everyone should still be careful, but I think 9/10 times the drunks are fine.

      Police have many different responsibilities with different units and groups specializing in different tasks.
      Not every police or unit does everything, except when they are the only one available.
      There's a specific law of how to handle intoxicated persons depending how they behave and in different situations:
      Laki päihtyneiden käsittelystä (Act on the handling of intoxicated persons)
      Legislation gives police tasks and responsibilities. But they also have room for judgment of how to arrange their operations and to make judgement calls in individual situations.

    The minivan or "Maija" is the usual ride that they use. It has double doors, and a bench where you (the customer / victim / hobo) sit with your back against the wall that separates you from the drivers. You might sit there in cuffs, or not. Depending on issues. These guys are from the violent crimes unit, and they propably don't have the room in their car. Also, there are no air fresheners that gets out that properly marinated Hobo bouquet. I once saw the police coming across a passed out hobo who had shit his pants. They called the younger patrol to deal with it.

    • @jarieljahbaba2275
      @jarieljahbaba2275 8 дней назад +3

      I dont think you can call these new cars maija, they are so far from the legendery mustamaija that could take 4 clients at time, these modern "maijas" have room for just one client at a time and because of that are much more ahdistava, whats the word.. anyway the point being that these new cars are shit.

    • @ilari90
      @ilari90 8 дней назад +1

      I think also they might say that because they know there might be more cases coming which require it more, they don't want to act as a taxi. That was the guy's first question "take me to the shelter", but he hasn't done anything else than being drunk there, so they don't want to use time for that, sometimes they might do it on purpose and if they get that idea, "hey, this works and I don't need to pay a taxi", they'll use it in the future, and then they tell that to their compatriots in the shelter and they get this idea, too.

    It doesn't necessarily mean there isn't any space which could be used by passengers. It can be understood to mean there is no space for that type of transportation or for that purpose.

    Finnish and American police are indeed very different. That aside, it’s good to note that the “customer” is drunk and it is winter. Police isn’t a taxi as mentioned before but on occasion if they are not busy they might give someone a ride home. However, if the person is incapable of taking care of themselves, the police has to pick them up or if need be call and ambulance. Usually the customer spends the night in jail and sometimes the police chooses to drop them home.
    The first police unit was a specialized crime investigator unit, not the typical patrol unit so they are likely to not have free space for people. The normal patrol police usually has a tagged van or sometimes a patrol car similar to USA.
