That dual guitar sound is the trademark harmonies you don't hear much anymore. Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Allman Brothers, Wishbone Ash, Judas Priest are among the best dual guitar harmonies you can hear.
There are so many history lessons in Iron Maiden’s music…. This is about the ill-fated Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War of 1854
That's one of the great things about Iron Maiden. You not only hear great music but also get a lesson in history and literature. A few others for you to check out "Where Eagles Dare" "Stranger In A Strange Land" "The Clairvoyant" "Powerslave"
Welcome to the Iron Maiden family! Just a little info for you, this is based on the battle of Balaklava, during the Crimean War. Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade. These guys have been going strong since 1975. I can say that I have had the opportunity to see these awesome musicians live, more times than I can count. My first concert was in 1983. Yes, I'm that old! 😂 UP THE IRONS!!! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

ahhh Iron Maiden, like opera meets metal. Stuffs so powerful, always respected how they develop song structure and emotion. Didn't try to act cool or hardcore like other metal bands
@@larrym5120 No they’re not. It’s a “thing” where the people who labeled them devil worship music in the 80s to deny them radio play continue to double down on their nonsense. Until Maiden is formally inducted, the RnRHoF is a joke. So far they’ve inducted Jay-Z and Dolly Parton over Maiden.
Their fans are a worldwide Brotherhood solidified as such by the song “Blood Brothers” I have seen them 13 times since 1983, have met people from all over the world from all walks of life and multiple generations. Just before that era, the UK outlawed radio stations from playing "Rock and Roll". From that was born "Pirate Radio", stations would hire boats and set them up to broadcast music outside of the 12 mile limit. This was shown in the video from RUSH in their song "Spirit Of The Radio" which was written more about the 1st Toronto radio station to hype their music. But in their video they pay tribute to the UK "Pirate Radio" boats.

In the 60's u had a trend of 2 guitars, 1 for rhythm and the other for lead... The Beatles (for example) had John Lennon usually playing the rhythms while George Harrison played the lead guitar and technical parts... The Rolling Stones had Keith Richards as the main guitarist while Brian Jones played slide and rhythm guitar... In CCR, John Fogerty played lead while his (late) brother Tom Fogerty played rhythm. But most major bands had 1 guitarist... The Who, The Doors, Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fleetwood Mac, etc. In the 70's, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Yes, Rush, Rainbow, etc ... had 1 guitarist, but some bands started experimenting w/ dual guitars... In the UK and Europe, they had Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy, Genesis, Scorpions... In America, we got Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult, Lynyrd Skynyrd... Thin Lizzy was a huge influence on Iron Maiden's sound - the dual lead guitars and harmonies of Scott Gorham & Brian Robertson... the songwriting of bassist/ vocalist Phil Lynott were a huge inspiration to Maiden's key songwriter Steve Harris (bass). But the band that truly perfected the dual lead guitar attack was Judas Priest... The 2 guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing had contrasting styles, but they combined to produce a lethal sonic attack that played at fast tempos and set the benchmark for what would become a trend in the 80's... especially thrash metal bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer... and other metal bands like Saxon, Helloween, King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Accept, Kreator, Annihilator, etc. Iron Maiden was founded on Steve Harris' songwriting w/ his harmonies and time changes being key elements of their songs... Guitarist Dave Murray is the technical wizard of the band... and then Adrian Smith (2nd guitar) provided that dual lead attack that was more fluid and less aggressive, compared to Judas Priest or Motorhead... It gave Maiden an original sound for sure.
You'll love Aces High. It's about being a pilot during the battle of Britain during world War 2. Another super high energy song that drives hard from start to finish. Maiden are pure energy man
Welcome to the Iron Maiden family, my friend! We're overjoyed to have you. I know how much you appreciate Rush too, so who knows, maybe we'll make a full on metalhead out of you 😁Which of course doesn't mean that one cannot appreciate other kinds of music as well. Quite the opposite, metal is a sponge that absorbs any and all other genres adding them to its own concept, so there's always something new to discover as a metalhead. I'm from Sweden, and unlike in the US, heavy metal never went away here but continues to thrive, attract loads of new fans and produce countless talented - and successful - new acts to date. This actually goes for most of Europe as a whole, but Sweden, Finland and Germany have been especially productive. Many of these acts are obviously very much inspired by Iron Maiden, one of the most popular and influential bands of any genre on our turf. And - I don't know how much this matters to you, but I for one am overjoyed - in this day and age, heavy metal is not the exclusive white straight boys' club it might appear to be for someone just discovering the classics. Everyone's welcome. Just respect your brothers and sisters of metal, and they will respect you back. I mentioned this because I reacted to your "long blonde hair" comment. I strongly recommend that you check out the legendary Thin Lizzy. If you do, you'll know exactly what I'm referring to. And if you're in the mood for something that is very much of our day and age, check out Myrath. Very few people in the US know who they are, but in Europe, they are quickly gaining traction on the metal scene. You could actually, to oversimplify a bit, describe them as a mixture of Iron Maiden and Rush, with an oriental flavor. And they are from - brace yourself - Tunisia, Africa. The metal scene is becoming a truly global phenomenon, and this is exactly as it should be.
When you describe loving that feeling, I really believe it’s a combination of the individual musicians and how they are captured sonically. The production fits the band perfectly. Martin Birch also produced two BÖC albums, Deep Purple, etc. On top of that, having a bass player being the band leader inevitably leads to a different sound. The songs are written around his bass lines and the guitar harmonies. The drumming by both Nicko and Clive fits perfectly and is not your standard double bass kick of most metal which gives an additional layer of differentiation from the genre. Keep enjoying music (discovered you from your Rush reactions).
Great reaction. Maiden are awesome. Checkout Phantom of the Opera live, Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Fear of the Darks. So many more. If you like maiden, you would love Scorpions. Just like maiden, awesome vocals and guitars. Kings of the power balads, like Still Loving You
Iron Maiden is in my top 5 Favorite metal bands. I would sell an arm and a leg to see them live. It's been my dream since I was 16 to see them live. I turned 50 yesterday so it's been a long wait. I seen them first row floor center in St. Louis early” The singer Bruce” Bent down “and shook a bunch of peoples hands including myself while he was singing it was pretty fun-he was young ripped and getting it “ vocally
I paused at 9:56 when you was talking about 2 guitars. Most rock and metal has a lead and rhythm guitarist! Skid Row who I see you haven't reacted to at all yet do really well with making those two guitarist working together! Of course, I have to admit of all the metal bands Cinderella have probably did the best job as far as the way they set up their songs! Cinderella if you think of it as like putting the music together the way someone puts an orchestra together set their music up that way and each thing came in at the exact right moment! I would suggest coming home or heartbreak station for cinderella to see what I'm talking about. But, there is also the fact the lead singer Tom Keiffer tried to sound like his favorite singer and did really well at it! His favorite singer was Janis Joplin and they did do a cover of Move Over! He does sound eerily close to Janis Joplin!
OH in that type of music the lead goes crazy with the exciting solos and everything while the rythym guitarist keeps the beat and time. Just so you know the band Ac/Dc Angus Young was the lead and Malcolm Young was the rhythm. Malcolm taught Angus everything but didnt' want to be in the spotlight. One time Angus was asked "How does it feel to be the best guitarist in the world?" He replied "Ha, best in the world? I'm not even the best in my family!" Malcolm was better just too shy!
This was a big single from Iron Maiden's 4th album 'Piece of mind'... It was controversial in Europe because 'Eddie' (Maiden's skeletal mascot) was depicted as being lobotomized and killed onstage... The media monitors thought it was objectional for viewing and declined to show it on national TV (Cable TV was still in its infancy) because of 'violence'... Even today in America, a lot of footage is not shown or censored on networks that airs on other stations. 'Piece of mind' saw Iron Maiden headlining arenas across the world, having graduated from an opening band and were selling millions of records worldwide. The album cover showed a lobotomized 'Eddie' bound in a straightjacket in a padded cell... When Maiden released the next album 'Powerslave' in 1984, 'Eddie' was resurrected as an Egyptian Pharoah and then a mummy rising from the dead... and his head still showed the lobotomy from the previous album.
Maybe someone has already said this, but: This song is based on a poem by Alfred Tennyson called "Charge of the Light Brigade," about a tragic charge of soldiers on horses against entrenched soldiers with machine guns in the Crimean War. It's a poem that the boys in Maiden would've learned in grade school. And they turned it into a metal anthem!
'''The brigade was not completely destroyed, but did suffer terribly, with 118 men killed, 127 wounded, and about 60 taken prisoner. After regrouping, only 195 men were still with horses. The futility of the action and its reckless bravery prompted the French Marshal Pierre Bosquet to state: "C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre." ("It is magnificent, but it is not war.") He continued, in a rarely quoted phrase: "C'est de la folie" - "It is madness."'' If you do the maths, that's about a 60% casualty rate; which is unthinkable in the modern era. It is remembered as a glorious defeat. A very British way of coping with loss. It still makes me proud to be English. Death in glorious battle for King and country is to literally to die for
'The Trooper' was based on the Crimean War (in what is now Ukraine) of the 1850's in which the British and their allies took on Russia... The trooper in the song dies in the end, cos that was the fate of a lot of the soldiers in war during those times... It was worse during World War I where soldiers were massacred by machine gun fire if they even attempted to charge enemy lines, and battle fields remained deadlocked for years as no army could advance... It doesn't glorify war... it shows the futility of the lone soldier who is just a single casualty for the battle where thousands are killed. Ironically, Crimea is the region in Ukraine that was occupied by Russian forces in 2014 and annexed from Ukraine... It's from where Russian forces tried to occupy Ukraine in 2022 by advancing West, but failed to capture the capital Kiev... Crimea is currently occupied by Russia's forces and pro-Russian militia.
Actually a high percentage of metal bands do have two guitars. Bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were some of the Originators of what they used to call the dual axe attack AKA two guitars. Sometimes playing in unison sometimes harmonizing sometimes trading off between soloing and Rhythm playing
Great choice for a reaction. Takes me back to my youth. Making the record skip in my parents living while jumping around singing and playing air guitar. Would have like to see you get down on the video
Even more odd is that when Iron Maiden writes their solos and riffs, the bass player and lead guitarist swap instruments and write the riffs for the other musician, so the bass riff is written by the lead guitarist, while the bass player writes the lead riff!
Suggested reactions: Fear of the Dark, Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Empire of the Clouds, Dance of Death, If Eternity Should Fail, Brave New World all from Iron Maiden. Tears of the Dragon by Bruce Dickinson solo career. "You Don't Know Me by Smith Kotzen (Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden). The band British Lion is a Steve Harris solo project
You need to hear it again and reflect on how stupidly awesome Steve's bass is. And while you're at it, notice how much that bass line sounds like the cavalry charging, like hundreds of hoofs stomping the ground.
Fantastic reaction!👍 With many Iron Maiden songs, you get an accurate history lesson. The Trooper tells the account of a British soldier in the Battle of Balaklava during the Crimean War. Lord Cardigan led the British cavalry against Russian forces during this battle on 25 October 1854. Lord Raglan had intended to send the Light Brigade to prevent the Russians from removing captured guns from overrun Turkish positions. However, there was miscommunication in the chain of command and the Light Brigade was instead sent on a suicide mission charging straight at heavy Russian artillery which cost the lives of over a hundred British soldiers. Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a poem to commemorate this disaster and he called it "The Charge of the Light Brigade". The bronze that the recaptured guns were made from was used to make the Victoria Cross, a military medal of the very highest order that was awarded "for valour". Very few of these have ever been awarded, even to this day. Other great Iron Maiden history lessons you could check out.... Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great, Paschendale and Empire of the Clouds. I've been a Maiden fan since hearing their debut album in 1980 when I was 10 years old. I've seen them live every time they've played in London, their home ground and mine, and they never disappoint. Up the Irons!!!
the prisoner, where eagles dare, aces high, two minutes to midnight, flash of the blade, wasted years, caught somewhere in time, deja vu, the loneliness of the long distance runner, infinite dreams.......give 'em a listen, you'll be amazed
This is the unedited version of the video. Great reaction. Another band with twin lead guitars for you to check out is Thin Lizzy, they were huge in the 70`s and early 80`s. Sadly the great Phil Lynott died in the mid 80`s, the band had many incredible guitarists in the line up over the years including the legendary Gary Moore.
If you're impressed by this one (and you said because of the two guitars harmonization), may I remind you that they have THREE giutarists now. I heavily (hah) suggest you watch one of the recent live performances of that one. The level of harmonization of the three guitar here is... Tasty. Expecially the first guitar solo, it's performed by two of the three guitarists, and the second one does it with a slight delay, but if you were to remove that delay you'll see they would be perfectly matched. That whole thing is MASSIVE. Check out the live from the show called "EN VIVO".
Oh man, what a song!!!! You should check out a cover of this track by '2 Cellos' its incredible!!! 🤘 This song sends me straight back to my early teens rocking in my room with my metal buddies. The dual guitar is a lost art these days and these guys are the very best at what they do!
Great to see the channel growing. Seeing your growing love of Metal is good to watch. Get some headphones to do the tunes justice. I know it is not conducive to head banging, but then neither are you glasses or hairline, but you manage. All the best my good man.
Lots of bands have two guitars. A lead and Rhythm guitar. Maiden has three and it creates a brilliant sounding layered effect with it. The way they tune their guitars also creates a little bit of a pop rock feel and makes their melodies really appeal to larger audience. They are not a pot band, but they do have great melodies.
The video was probably banned for viewing on the BBC weekly flagship chart pop show Top of the Pops ,because it was shown around 7:00-7:30 P.M. and potentially would’ve been seen by several million children tuning in to see the teeny bop idols of the day, many of which would have been under 10 years old, which is fair enough.
Watch “Flight 666” by Iron Maiden (concerts) Hollowed Be Thy Name performance is insane! 🤯 they just got better with time. Metal Heads are the most caring, giving people. Welcome To The Family! 🤘🏼
2 guitar are MÉTAL and Maiden have 3 guitars now , song whit 3 solo players ! And if you want the best or the most listen live you got to have Iron Maiden album " Live after death " thx for react
Dude, if you want to get up close and personal with Maiden, listen to the trinity of albums Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave. Definitely their best works as a whole. Live After Death is a definite recommendation if you want to hear it live. 'Nuff said
Sadly, these days the talent pool just isnt there...also, alot of guitarists wont share the lead role...check out the documentary of Iron Maiden forming...Steve Harris, the bassist and creator of the band went through tons of guitarists before landing on Dave Murray and Adrian Smith...and these days Iron Maiden have three lead gutarists...
Bro I'm telling you, listen to Aces High and Moonchild. These 2 songs are the opening titles on their respective records Power Slave and Seventh son of a seventh son which are my 2 favourite records. Not a single bad track on these 2 records. Bliss from beginning to end !!! Fire, fire, fire, fire and more fire. Listen to those 2 records in their entirety and in the order without skipping any songs. If you're not a fan after this the I guess Maiden is not for you.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

@@mattvideoeditor Out of the bands you mentioned, only Angra and Helloween actually have dual guitars.
In the late 90s / early 2000s, In Flames borrowed that dual harmony guitar sound, made it heavier, and became pioneers in melodic death metal.

Lead and Rhythm guitarist's were common in 70's and 80's
'''The brigade was not completely destroyed, but did suffer terribly, with 118 men killed, 127 wounded, and about 60 taken prisoner. After regrouping, only 195 men were still with horses. The futility of the action and its reckless bravery prompted the French Marshal Pierre Bosquet to state: "C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas la guerre." ("It is magnificent, but it is not war.") He continued, in a rarely quoted phrase: "C'est de la folie" - "It is madness."''
If you do the maths, that's about a 60% casualty rate; which is unthinkable in the modern era.
This isnthe unedited version. It was banned because the film footage is from a 1930s movies and it was because some horses died during the movie.
Even more odd is that when Iron Maiden writes their solos and riffs, the bass player and lead guitarist swap instruments and write the riffs for the other musician, so the bass riff is written by the lead guitarist, while the bass player writes the lead riff!
I believe this video used clips from the 1936 Errol Flynn movie which were already edited and meant to depict the Charge of the Light Brigade.
I love the trooper beer.
You need to see them live. Future Past Tour coming soon.
"Number of the Beast" coming soon I hope!
You need to hear it again and reflect on how stupidly awesome Steve's bass is. And while you're at it, notice how much that bass line sounds like the cavalry charging, like hundreds of hoofs stomping the ground.
Fantastic reaction!👍
With many Iron Maiden songs, you get an accurate history lesson.
They have THREE GUITAR PLAYERS. Lol.
Great reaction 💪 up the irons
Love it!!!
Oh man, what a song!!!!
You should check out a cover of this track by '2 Cellos' its incredible!!! 🤘
This song sends me straight back to my early teens rocking in my room with my metal buddies.
The dual guitar is a lost art these days and these guys are the very best at what they do!
Judas priest, scorpions, metallica, ac/DC,
all have duel guitars, and all are great.
FEAR. OF. THE. DARK. LIVE!
Great to see the channel growing. Seeing your growing love of Metal is good to watch. Get some headphones to do the tunes justice. I know it is not conducive to head banging, but then neither are you glasses or hairline, but you manage. All the best my good man.
This song is about Bella's Light Brigade where the British try to fight the Russians over Crimea and lost badly
After that intro, nice voice BTW, you need to check out, Gallows Pole by Zeppelin. It's actually a funny one. 😏😎
They have 3 guitarist now
Get ready for history lesson from these guys Or should I say Steve Harris the bassist writes most all lyrics
If you can't do contact lenses, try one of those athletic straps for your glasses and then proceed with rocking out, lol.
Next? = Run to the hills ❤
Please react "Dance of Death" live (Iron Maiden). Currently, Maiden has three guitars!
2 guitar are MÉTAL and Maiden have 3 guitars now , song whit 3 solo players ! And if you want the best or the most listen live you got to have Iron Maiden album " Live after death " thx for react
If you haven't listened to Alexander, the Great...please do. He will educate on some history.
Want to see a female version of Iron Maiden
Do Lovebites Scream for Me live Daughters of the Dawn
Once again you must have lyrics in hand when listening to iron maiden!
Dude, if you want to get up close and personal with Maiden, listen to the trinity of albums Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave. Definitely their best works as a whole. Live After Death is a definite recommendation if you want to hear it live. 'Nuff said
check out 2cellos cover of this. 2 guys playing cellos do this justice. not as good as Maiden but its impressive.

MAIDEN will always kick ass ... Next =

Ryhme of the ancient mariner will be a great song for you
Dual guitar... Check out Thin Lizzy!!!!! *
If you're not a fan after this the I guess Maiden is not for you.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Very dumb that the BBC wouldn't show it, especially it's a song about some historical things in their country.
