It's funny that you mentioned that the a7iv can't go past 12,800 iso otherwise the image would fall apart. Because I was told that the a7iv can go up to about iso 20,000 before the image starts to fall flat.
I need some help a little torn. I have the 87S the FX3 and the A73 my dilemma is I’m thinking about getting rid of my A7S and trading it for a FX 30 and lens. What do you think? Any information would be greatly appreciated and helpful.
I’m an fx30 owner and not only landed me jobs, but been a great A cam. Low lighting is the only issue but having an fx3 shouldn’t make you worried.. also you’re getting same colors out the sensors so think about how easy it would be to color match.. also getting variable shutter, so light flickering isn’t an issue as you can fine tune your shutter, something fx3/a7s3/a74 doesn’t have.. apsc means cheaper and good quality lens. it’s an overall perfect investment for your setup, and also on top you’re getting a fan built in, so no over heating.. let’s say you land an interview style project, you’re not worried about the record time or over heating. The dual gain iso of 800 and 2500 is very usable, let’s say on a realistic note, you may end up in iso 2500 majority of the time, rather than cranking up to 12800 every time with ND filter on. Also a future proof camera as Sony won’t neglect their cinema line cameras, if anything, they’ll lack on a7 series cameras before they ever lack on cinema line cameras. I wouldn’t say Sony doesn’t care about their a7 line but they’ll quickly move on and lack on updates and lack on adding on to the system. You’ll find a7s3 having bugs since 3.01 update (recent) and been about 4 months and Sony doesn’t address it, things like over heating after the update, autofocus issues.
And realistically it’s a good camera in low light just not pitch dark lighting, I’d say you can go to the extreme of a dimmed room. You can pump up the iso to 6400 and still manage to capture something without so much noise, something that you can either leave in or add noise reduction in post. So realistically, fx30 is perfect for ur needs, you won’t look back trust me on that.. it’ll compliment ur fx3 perfectly. Also ur getting a 6k downsampled 4k image, so detail is definitely there, you’ll realize you’re getting a sharper image than the fx3
I tested the tamron f 2.8 t- 5.6 with a 28 - 200mm lens when filming dark rides at Disney world and the results were still really good. I set my max iso range to 40,000 and the minimum to 80.
@BrianTheCameraGuy true ,the haunted mansion required me to set the iso at 64,000. If you need to go higher, then try not to zoom in. The iso limit varies . All depends on how dark the ride is. Mickeys runaway railway ai only need an iso of 16,000.
@BrianTheCameraGuy it was Splash Mountain. Unfortunately, they changed it to Tianas bayou adventure. I never got to ride Tianas Bayou's adventure in person yet. So, for now, I would say my favorite classic dark ride would be the haunted mansion and pirates of the caribbean.
i have the a7s iii. love it, but not the way Sony has treated me as a purchaser of this flagship device in firmware upgrades or the fact that they came out with the FX3 so soon after. I agree with everything said here, but as a person that was not looking to use this as a "hybrid" camera, and only wanted top-end movie/cinema features, I would not buy this in 2024. I would definitely get the FX3. Sony actually cares about that camera and its status in the camera community. I would not be surprised if they stopped the a7 line altogether now that they know they have engineered a hit with the FX3 line.
You might be right about the a7s line. I also think that people will be very careful if an siv comes out. They released the fx3 a couple months later. They should release both upgrades at the same time but I am sure they will not.
I know!!! I have been using it for the past couple of days. I have been liking some of the upgrades. Wish they would have gone further but thinking about doing a video about it. What are your thoughts?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy Please make one! Currently debating buying a video camera for real estate content and my go to was going to be the a7s3. Then learned about the fx3 and I'm clearly debating between the two. Aside from real estate content, Ill most likely start a youtube channel as well.
I cant decide if I should go with sony 20mm f1.8 or the sony 24mm f1.4 is there a difference in low light performance? Is the f 1.4 worth the extra 1000 dollars over the f1.8 lens ?
I was lucky enough to use that camera. It is a really great camera and would love to use it for photos. Little bit out of my price range. What would you like to see in that review?
if you rely on AF, those 2 cameras don't come close to the a7siii. also, 4k60/4k120 on the a7siii, there's no reason to get the older models unless you're shooting strictly 4k24.
These videos make no sense. Of course it is. It is still the best camera Sony has. I would buy a A7SIII over the A7RV., A7iV, ZV-E1, A7CII and FX3. It is just a better camera.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy yeah I think it will be announced in July. 6k, 24 megapixels, better stabilization like what’s in the A93. Pretty much would be happy with all that.
Rumor has it that the a7siv may be released in 2025 with a native iso of 2 hundred and fifty six thousand , that is bonkers.
That does sound bonkers. I am looking forward to seeing what they throw into it to get us to upgrade.
It's funny that you mentioned that the a7iv can't go past 12,800 iso otherwise the image would fall apart. Because I was told that the a7iv can go up to about iso 20,000 before the image starts to fall flat.
I use the a7siii all the time. And yes even though my lenses are only f 2.8 it still performs very well in low light.
Are you loving those combos?
@BrianTheCameraGuy yes . But not gonna lie, I am planning on buying a Sony 20mm f 1.8 lens.
Totally worth it!!
@BrianTheCameraGuy also I normally film in 30fps , so if I were to crank it up to 60fps, the low light performance may be a little worse.

I would agree. If you go much above that, then it is really hard to get a clean image.

I love pirates!! The Tiana ride is not bad. Lots of fun upbeat jazz music and a catchy hook.

Absolutely, that sounds like sometime this week!!
On rhe creative look settings do you recommend that sharpness should be set higher or lower ?
I prefer to have a softer image that if I want to make sharper then I can do it in post. I would not go down too far, maybe 1 or 2 down from standard.
What do you recommend the d range optimizer should be set for low light?
I would probably set it to level 3!
I cant decide if I should go with sony 20mm f1.8 or the sony 24mm f1.4 is there a difference in low light performance? Is the f 1.4 worth the extra 1000 dollars over the f1.8 lens ?
I would say if you are not using the lens for vlogging there is something special about the Sony 24mm f1.4 lens. It is just a magical lens.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy thanks. Good to know.
You are welcome!!
You should do a review of the sony a1 . Not to be confused with the a1 steak sauce 😂.

The low light performance
Low light was ok. If it is really important then save some money and go a7s3, fx3, or zv-e1.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy is the low light performance on the a1 comparable to the a7iv ?
They are pretty close. If you have a fast prime lens then you are all set!
Great video this camera seems to have lasted the test of time.
It really has. Plus they just put out a new firmware and made it a little bit better. It is still such a great camera. I feel lucky to have it.
Everything comes alive at night with the a7siii
I would have to agree, 100%. Amazing camera even after all these years!
How about an a7s or a7sii? Still worth it, or should it be the a7siii exclusively? Thanks!
I have never used either one of those cameras. Based on what I have heard about them, they are good but the new cameras are better options.

That makes perfect sense. What is your favorite camera right now?
What level do you set the dynamic range optimizer?
When I use it outdoors I like it set to Level 5. Indoors you can lower it a little bit. Does that help?
@BrianTheCameraGuy indoors do you recommend to have it set to level 2 or 3 ?
Yes, I would bring it down some.
Question do you recommend I film in 4k xavc s or xavc s i?
I like the 4k xavc HS. I then edit using proxies that I make after I get home.
