Thank you! Welcome to Pittsburgh. Crappy time to move. Im excited for you to see the city in full swing! I recommend attending a 'first fridays' in Bloomfield whenever they start back up again. Excellent way to get into the art scene here.

Just want to say I love your videos man, I've lived near Pittsburgh my entire life but I feel like your videos have given me an entirely new, more positive perspective on the city I always thought I knew.
Hey bud good to have you back! I used to work exclusively with feral cats and there are a ton of ways to build these "kitty condos" but the most important thing is to have an entrance AND an exit so if a raccoon or coyote comes a knockin, the kitty wont be easy dinner. Let me know if you have any questions. Also people dont put heating pads in these unless you check them daily and hay works as a great insulator
I just moved to Pittsburgh after being offered a job all the way back in February. My boyfriend found your neighborhood series and we watched the whole lot. Those videos made me sure I was making the right choice about moving here! I hope your ankle keeps on improving!
I’m so over the moon happy that you are back Dean! I started watching your videos last year during a very dark time and I loved looking forward to your videos each week. You bring so much joy in a time where we all need it. Thank you for sharing your gift with us!
I always feel like I've explored all of Pittsburgh and then I stumble upon a completely unknown location. I had never been to Woods Run until last week and it was wild.
Got hooked on your channel back before COVID hit, and just today watched the rest that I haven't seen yet. Hoping to see some more content for 2021. It's nice how you focus on the positive.
you are an AMAZING film maker. I am no expert what so ever, I dont know anything about it BUT what I do know is the music/the scenes and the beat in it fits so perfectly together and its just damn good and enjoyable to watch! I love Pittsburgh because of your videos so much more!
Hey man! Love your videos, they've given me a new appreciation for Pittsburgh as a six-year Pitt student. I had no idea you shattered your foot but I'm glad to see you're doing well. Out of curiosity, what're your top three favorite movies/TV shows?
Movies: 'That thing you do' is my all time favorite. Been that way since I was about 3. Not the 'best' movie I've ever seen but I love it dearly and always will. Followed by School of Rock, another movie about music. Then maybe Forgetting Sarah Marshall? I love the way they depict heart break in that movie. I find it so accurate and hilarious. Not as much of a TV guy. Grew up on Spongebob and the Office.
Dean, we've missed your content so much! Watched your last video and completely empathize with how you're feeling. Thanks for surfacing, you're so needed and your positive outlook on humanity is welcome 🙏.
Hey Dean! Great vid, loving this new vlog style just as much as the old docs. Ive been relating to your recovery journey lately, as I recently got injured doing a physical activity I love. How are you doing overcoming the fear of trying what hurt you again? I love what I got injured doing, but every time I go to do it again that fear is there.
Damn. Its tough for sure. I got injured 'lead' climbing, which I will likely never do again. I've climbed twice since the injury, both times on top rope- which is a much safer form of climbing. My ankle still feels like garbage, and it may very well stay that way. In terms of facing fear, remember that you are going to die, everyone you know is going to die. Thats just how it is and there ain't nothing wrong with that. The universe is a beautiful place and will continue marching onward. Do what you love to do while you can.
Covid-eos! :) Can't wait to see what the Kitty Condos investigation uncovers! I do have a Q: What's your music workflow and where do you get the music? As always, there's some cool tunes in this and the tracks you have are consistently efficient at setting the mood and getting into the vibe of your videos....
Good Q. So in Neighborhoods I only used music that I had the rights to use. The music came almost entirely from a site called MusicBed. I would typically search their classical or jazz sections. For this vloggy series I've been using some songs that I dont have the rights to, just ripping them offline. So its just whatever Im listening to when I sit down to edit.
I adore the work you make. Thanks again for giving me a better appreciation of where I live. Can’t wait for the video about the month of dumpster diving. Also my girlfriend is curious if there are any updates on getting yourself a bean dog.
A stray showed up in my yard on the summer solstice and has visited me everyday since. I recently built her a house on my porch. Straw is messy. I was at Lowe's with my dog recently, walking down the main aisle, and turned around to see he had left a trail of poop, about 5 side aisles long. Anyway, love the videos, especially shots of my hometown. Been gone 7 years now, and this is the first year I haven't been able to visit, because... you know, pandemic and all.. Thanks.
Oh my! That is a long poo trail haha. My neighbor has a similar porch set up for a couple of strays. I'll have to go on a stray hunt once I've got some shelters built.
i use to dumpster dive alot around 2003 - 2008 with my friend, we got art work, furniture, neck massager, lamps, designer purses, shoes, food, dishes, clothes, jewelry etc...
I might be moving back to Pittsburgh after 14 years away. I'm watching your videos for reference of everything I don't know. Your life also brings me a lot of motivation how you're active and can do a lot of things. I used to live in Troy Hill. Not sure if you did an episode there or not. I hope you capture it in the early Autumn, right when the leaves just begin to fall. Those are the last memories of my grandparents I have up there for cemetery walks and then visiting the Catholic churches. If anyone has any direct contacts to homeless shelters or advice/outreach resources that go beyond what I can google for the Pittsburgh area, it'd be much appreciated. :)
I have not covered Troy Hill yet. It was quite high on the to do list before Covid hit. I spent a good amount of time up there while filming a video about the steps. Fall in Troy Hill would make for some dreamy footage. If you do come back, I’m sure the city will welcome you with open arms.
I just found your channel earlier today and the vibe reminds me of how Denver was when I was a kid before Colorado's population absolutely exploded. Lovin your vids. Once I've explored Tennessee a little longer I think Pittsburgh is gonna be next!

Vlogging all 30 days would be a fun watch! Look at what the same general idea did for Morgan Spurlock. Move over Morgan woth your "Super Size Me", Dean Bog is eating from dumpsters for a month!!! *cue Humble Pie's 30 'days in the hole'*
Im hooked on slacklining if these videos didnt make that obvious. Slacklining in the park is sketchy with my ankle because I can't risk a fall. However highlining is safer because when you fall you just fall into the air and the harness catches you.
A stray kitty just appeared in our backyard this evening. It was skin and bones....I fed it two cans a tuna so far. Since my wife is terribly allergic I will definitely be building a kitty condo. Please post once you have the details!
I love you and whatever wonderful gift you have for filmmaking. You are an artist. I am a Dean Bog stan. Also Pittsburgh is rad. I got engaged on Mt. Washington and I just want to live there; anywhere in that lovely city.

The music is consistently great - moves things at a good pace, sets and goes well with the vibe, etc. I am curious as to the workflow (music ideas first, and shoot for that? or edit first and score or find tunes later???) and where Dean gets it from. A spotify playlist would be so cool!
@@ToxicMetropolis Yes -- the visuals are amazing, but it's the music (and the way that the kicks interact with the visual editing) that stands out most for me. I agree that it would be wonderful to know more about the selection process.
Most of it comes from a site called MusicBed. I pay a monthly fee and get access to their library of songs. Most of their selection isn't great but there are some excellent musicians on their if you look hard enough. The main song in this video was ripped offline, hence the ad that likely accompanied this vide. When I use a copyrighted song RUclips will show ads on the video and the owner of the song gets the money. But with my view count thats a couple of cents.

Dean, not that you would want any side money, as you seem to be making a killing on dumpster food, but are you for hire? My father-in-law’s store burnt down in the strip this year. You would be my first pick for a mini-doc about the experience and the outpouring of support from the strip district community and how the insurance company has tried to screw us.
The main song I used illegally, which is why there are likely ads on this video. Its Random Firl by Late of the Pier. The goofy lion roar one is take it by the seige which I got off of Music Bed.
Dang, I've spoke with a women who was feeding those cats but I didn't ask for a name/number. If I see her again, I'll try to get her contact info for you. I live up woods run and bike that path every day!
That was break neck. About an hour outside of Pittsburgh. Not a ton of height, but a decent little crag. Ohio pyle has more height, but its also a sketchier climbing area. Thats where I broke my foot.
You would be SHOCKED at what you will find in a dumpster. Perfectly fine food. Loads and loads of it. Classic scenario- carton of 12 eggs. 1 is cracked. winds up in the dumpster. Remove 1 cracked egg. take home 11 perfect eggs. breakfast.
I am really glad you are back. You're an amazing film maker.

You should check out the mountain biking "scene" at frick park. Pretty neat. I wish you well.
Love your vids! Who is the music on this one? I really liked it.
The main song I used illegally, which is why there are likely ads on this video. Its Random Firl by Late of the Pier. The goofy lion roar one is take it by the seige which I got off of Music Bed.
What statement does Lawrence Ferlinghetti's "Constantly risking absurdity" make about poetry, truth, and beauty?
I dig the question but have not read that unfortunately
I’m afraid of rats. Rats hang around dumpsters.
Dang, I've spoke with a women who was feeding those cats but I didn't ask for a name/number. If I see her again, I'll try to get her contact info for you. I live up woods run and bike that path every day!
Such a cool area! I've been in the wardens house of that jail a couple of times but never ventured into woods run until last week.
@@DeanBog You're telling me you've been inside SCI Pittsburgh? I haven't snuck in yet, but I really want to lol
Looking good Lewis!!
Feeling good Billy Ray!
While it's both funny and like an odd challenge; LOOK HOW MUCH FOOD WAS IN THE DUMPSTER. Makes me sad
How often does it snow during the winter in Pittsburgh
Hmm depends on the year. Last year we didnt really get any snow. Typically there are 1-3 substantial snows (6in+)
i have seen the befor in Windsor ontario
but what about the tree pro?
HAH! Take it up with Davis!! I suppose my little one was also lacking tree pro '____'
Why are people throwing away good food though?
good stuff dean.
Thank you Benny Beans. I like your account name and pic.
Yo dude you found Kettle Chips in the dumpster?!
Yes! The bag was ripped open, so we transferred them to a zip lock and they were good to go. Definitely one of the better scores we have found.
where was the climb executed ? would love to explore those parts of pgh
That was break neck. About an hour outside of Pittsburgh. Not a ton of height, but a decent little crag. Ohio pyle has more height, but its also a sketchier climbing area. Thats where I broke my foot.
@@DeanBog McConnells mills has good spots to climb too. It's about an hour north of Pittsburgh.
@@Stiofan42 I have not been there yet!
dumpster diving, ur ridiculous but even more ridiculous who threw away those mushrooms.
You would be SHOCKED at what you will find in a dumpster. Perfectly fine food. Loads and loads of it. Classic scenario- carton of 12 eggs. 1 is cracked. winds up in the dumpster. Remove 1 cracked egg. take home 11 perfect eggs. breakfast.
@@DeanBog so homeless can actually live well.
im a pittsburgher as well over on the east side maybe ill see you one day
