I have been on a spiritual path for the last 20 years and after a long and often frustrating journey became determined to learn Kriya yoga. I quickly discovered however that finding information on the actual techniques was not easy. As an answer to my prayer I suppose, I found this channel and listened to several of your videos and immediately knew you were exactly what I was looking for. I bought your book Continuing the Lineage and The Eternal Way by Mr. Davis. You have helped me immeasurably and I just wanted you to know how truly grateful I am.

    Ryan,
As a fallen away 65 year old SRF-er, also somewhat cynical -- I "out-of-the-blue" did a RUclips search for Kriya yoga last October 2018, and finding your videos and your honest demeanor has reignited my meditation practice and lifted my seriousness to a new high. I have had Roy Davis' books at my bedside table and have found your video discussions with him also very inspirational. I honor his passing by messaging you about the help that your involvement in the lineage has provided me.

My experience is very similar Patrick! I was an SRF student around 1980. I left SRF and explored different paths, eventually landing in Shin Buddhism (which I still practice). I found this very video which introduced me to Roy Eugene Davis. I loved his books and a very Buddhistic and practical approach. I wrote to him and he sent my a DVD to consider as my initiation into Kriya, although in a very real way, this RUclips video by Ryan was my Kriya initiation and changed my life! Since Mr Davis's passing Ryan is my primary source for Kriya information and inspiration. I highly recommend Ryan's books as well.

Also appreciated a newer more relaxed, flexible, intuitive, creative addition to the practices and lifestyle rather than a rigid by-the-book dogmatic one.

I appreciate it when clear instructions are given and you did this very well, Ryan. I look forward to incorporating this into my life and trying to achieve a heightened awareness. For about the last 10 months I have been using the HeadSpace guided meditation app. It has helped me calm & quiet my mind - find peace and happiness. But I am beginning to out grow that app - as I’ve grown, the spoken guidance is becoming a distraction rather than the necessary aid it was in the beginning. Now I play quiet meditation back ground music - or nothing - but use the Insight Timer app to time/end my meditation. I greatly enjoyed this helpful video - I feel that I’ve gotten to a place where I can begin learning & practicing Kriya Yoga Meditation. Thank you Ryan 🙏

Namaste. I am deeply grateful for your videos. They are very clear and come from a very pure source, I think many more people would practice Kriya Yoga if it was more accessible, but the teachings seem to be quite obscure, preventing one from fully embracing this path. This is unfortunate because I feel it is ideal for many westerners as it is so systematic and straightforward. I thank you for your seva, for making these sacred techniques more accessible to the sincere seeker.

I've been doing these techniques as a kid, just using energy... the breathing and constricting throat is used when I'm amassing energy. I call it Black Sun Breathing... like this is cool.
I wonder how many of the techniques I was taught while meditating as a kid by my inner selves is actually forms of yoga

I'm sure the average person would think I'm nuts but I did it hundreds, if not thousands of times and I know what I experienced. I didn't have any structured way of working with energy so I did what somehow felt natural.

Can you tell me why bring the cold energy only up to the third chackra in the beginning?
I been looking for information about this currents. I’ve been able to pull the cold current for some years now. When I was initiated I asked the master about this current, first time someone acknowledged this current, and I was told that I needed to bring the energy down... Years later of practice and the downwards current is warm. Yet it is not easy to find information about the movement of this currents.
Thanks for this videos. I will make sure to experiment with my practice with currents in the manner you explained.

The throat is more of a pulling back and tucking the chin slightly as if you’re holding a marble between the chin and throat. I agree with Ryan that meditating with an 'organization' is not necessary. I did my initial Kriya training and initiation with Self Realization Fellowship, but there are many paths to Kriya. I don't have a problem with SRF, but after years of meditating alone, I attempted to join a local SRF group and meditate with them once per week. I really did not enjoy the experience - I would rather be a lone Yogi. Also, there are a bewildering array of Kriya techniques out there if you search YT videos. Take 2-3 and stick with them. It becomes way too confusing (at least for me) to do techniques that don't seem to jive with me. I do the basic Hang Sau and Kriya 1 - Kriya 1 being the basic technique that Ryan demos here in the video - inhale (Ha - cool air) to the 6th Chakra, then exhale ('eee' - warm air down to the base chakra). That's it. I don't need to make it more complicated than that - 20 - 30 min 2X per day -sometimes more if I have the time. The practice that works is the one that you do consistently.

This is very random, but time/space isn't really linear anyway. I have been breathing kriya almost 30 years, and am a direct initiate into a kriya lineage that essentially makes me Ryan's spiritual cousin ( one of Yogananadaji's lone wolf students is my paramguru). I have not even bothered to google the world of Kriya outside of my own life until last week, and have been pleasantly surprised by how much the digital world has changed things. Albeit perhaps adding layers of confusion. But I am here to attest that what you describe ( and Ryan is teaching here) is what I was taught; these are the basics. Lovely, and true.
I will add that I do use the mantra that can accompany kriya proper, and also, over the years I have taken to breathing kriya with my mouth closed. I was given the green light by the lineage to do so about six years ago. I have read that Yogananada was originally taught to breathe kriya with a closed mouth, but thought westerners would benefit from an open mouth technique as it reinforces the susumanic tube or tunnel ( ida) on a gross level, but who knows? Maybe some of his western sudents were unable to nostril breathe all the time? I have found this to be rather arbitrary, and have done both open and closed mouth inhalations depending on the moment at hand. Also arbitrary in my experience is the use of the mantra vs. aaa-eeee. Many blessings from one lone- wolf kriyaban to another.

I tend to get headaches after doing these exercises daily for a while, which I feel very sad about because other than that I love the soothing feeling in my spine. At the moment how I solve this problem is by attaching an inner chi-gong practice afterwards ( which is breathing up my back through my spine and exhaling down my front body and collecting my chi in my abdomen afterwards) which currently the only solution that elevates the headaches for me. I just wonder if anybody else experiences headaches after spinal breathing Kriya yoga and if there are some other specific Kriya Yoga explanations or/and solutions for this issue. Lots of love. keep up the good work Ryan
